Afterwards, we went directly into the Erwang Temple from the mountain and toured the temple from top to bottom.

According to the sign, it is an ancient tree from the Shang Dynasty with a history of more than 3,400 years. It is also the earliest precious tree discovered in my country so far.

Erwang Temple was built to commemorate Li Bing and his son. The existing building was rebuilt during the Republic of China period. It is exquisitely built with local characteristics. Not only is it gorgeously decorated, but the pointed upward-curved eaves are also very attractive to tourists.

There are two opposite side gates below the mountain gate of Erwang Temple.

The Erwang Temple was originally built to commemorate the Shu King Du Yu, and later to worship Li Bing and his son, and later to add Erlang Shen. The Erwang refers to Li Bing and his son, but it is said that Li Bing's son was also Erlang Shen who came down to earth to help him control the flood. The buildings are built on the mountain, with different heights, and have typical flying eaves and corners in Shu. It is very interesting to take a walk around.

Erwang Temple was first built during the Southern and Northern Dynasties. The existing buildings were built in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China to commemorate Li Bing and his son. The front hall of the temple enshrines Erlang Shen, and there are Roaring Sky Dog and a three-pointed double-edged sword outside the hall; the back hall enshrines Li Bing and his wife.

Erwang Temple is a temple dedicated to Li Bing and his sons. It was originally a temple to Emperor Wang. This temple was first built during the Southern and Northern Dynasties. Most of the current buildings were rebuilt in the Qing Dynasty and are very quiet.

By Black Horse |

The "Erwang Temple" was first built in the Eastern Han Dynasty, when it was the "Wangdi Temple" in memory of King Du Yu of Shu. During the Southern and Northern Dynasties, during the Jianwu period of Emperor Ming of the Southern Qi Dynasty (494-498), Liu Jilian, the governor of Yizhou, moved the "Wangdi Temple" to Pi County and changed the place to worship Li Bing and his son, and named it "Chongde Temple" to commemorate the merits of Li Bing and his son in flood control. There are many names for the "Erwang Temple": "Jiangdu Temple", "Li Gong Temple", "Wang Temple", "Qin Taishou Li Gong Temple", "Zhenchang Daoyuan", "Chuanzhu Temple", "Xianying Wang Temple", "Erwang Palace", and "Erlang Temple". Emperor Taizu of Song ordered the repair of the "Chongde Temple", expanded the temple base, and added a statue of Li Erlang. Since Wang Jian occupied Shu in the Five Dynasties (908-935), Li Bing and his son were successively conferred the title of king. It was not until the fifth year of Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty (1727) that Sichuan Governor Xian De called it "Erwang Temple" in the "Monument of Donations for Spring and Autumn Sacrifices". The name of the temple "Erwang Temple" has continued to this day.

The "Erwang Temple" has undergone many reconstructions and repairs, and now basically maintains the style of the Qing Dynasty. The most recent reconstruction was the emergency repair and reconstruction after the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake. This reconstruction can be said to be very significant and a feat. The entire restoration project was jointly constructed by the Chinese Cultural Heritage Research Institute and 8 other units including the Palace Museum. This emergency repair and protection project won a major award - the Special Award for Excellent Cultural Relics Protection Project, which was awarded by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage. This award is extremely special, because since the founding of New China, only two places have won this honor, the first is the "Potala Palace" in Lhasa, and the second is the "Erwang Temple" in Dujiangyan. That's why we came here in a hurry to appreciate this thousand-year-old architectural treasure.

The highest point of the "Erwang Temple" is the "Taiji Hall", also known as the "Laojun Hall". Next is the Holy Mother Yuanjun, who was condensed from the mysterious and harmonious energy of the cave, also known as the Mysterious Jade Girl, the teacher of God, and the mother of Laozi. The most distinctive feature of this hall is the wooden sculpture of a large bat with its wings spread out under the porch. The main hall enshrines Li Bing's son, Erlang Shen (the three-eyed Erlang Shen in Journey to the West), and on the left and right sides of the hall are Erlang Shen's friend, Xiaotian Dog, and Erlang Shen's weapon, the three-pointed double-edged sword. Behind the main hall is the second hall enshrining the statues of Li Bing and his wife. The building opposite the main hall of the Erwang Temple is the "Opera Building", and the doorway under the "Opera Building" is the main gate of the Erwang Temple. There is a vertical plaque of "Erwang Temple" above the Zhongshan Gate of the main hall of the Erwang Temple, which was written by General Feng Yuxiang in February of the 30th year of the Republic of China (1935). There are also two extremely gorgeous mountain gates at the foot of the Erwang Temple: the East Mountain Gate and the West Mountain Gate. Next is the Lingguan Building, and next to it is the Zhenlan Pavilion, also known as the Land God Temple and the Three Officials Hall. From left to right, they enshrine: Ding Baozhen, Lü Dongbin, and Wenchang Emperor. Next is the Sanguan Hall, also known as the Guanlan Pavilion. They enshrine the Three Officials of Heaven, Earth, and Water. On the red stone walls below the "Three Officials Hall" are engraved famous sayings about water control in Dujiangyan, the most famous of which is Li Bing's "deepening the riverbed and building the weir low". The entrance to the Erwang Temple, the "Le Tower", spans the stone steps at the entrance to the Erwang Temple.

The Erwang Temple is located on the hillside on the right bank of the Minjiang River, facing the Dujiangyan. It was originally the Wangdi Temple to commemorate the King of Shu. During the Jianwu period of Qi (494-498 AD), it was changed to worship Li Bing and his son and was renamed "Chongde Temple". After the Song Dynasty (960-1279 AD), Li Bing and his son were successively conferred as kings by the emperor, so later generations called it "Erwang Temple". The main hall of the temple enshrines statues of Li Bing and his son, and collects famous sayings on water control and poets' inscriptions. The building complex is distributed on the east bank of the Dujiangyan Canal Head. It is large in scale, rigorous in layout, and extremely quiet. It is a famous scenic spot combining temples and gardens. It covers an area of about 50,000 square meters, and the main building is about 10,000 square meters. The Erwang Temple is divided into two parts, the east part is the garden area, and the west part is the temple area. The whole temple is a wooden structure. The temple is completely dependent on the natural geographical environment and takes advantage of the mountain. The architectural style does not emphasize the symmetry of the central axis.

It was built to commemorate Li Bing and his son, so that future generations can remember their achievements. Indeed, without their wisdom and dedication, there would be no land of abundance today.

By Chen Xiaohei who loves traveling |

This style has the flavor of Bashu culture and is still very distinctive, but it has been renovated a lot and the historical sense has been somewhat reduced.

Taking the cable car into the Erwang Temple is like discovering a paradise: the Bashu culture and the flourishing Taoism here have a unique charm for me. The various halls are built at different heights according to the mountainside, rich in architectural beauty. The carvings and inscriptions bear the marks of history and religion. The walls are covered with moss, and the stone lions listen to the time. The candles of worship in front of the Three Pure Ones shed long clear tears. Everything is so quiet and beautiful!

By Fairytale CORN |

The Erwang Temple is next to the Taiyan Tower. If you cross the river to the other side, you will have to walk up and down the mountain road again. It was already evening when we arrived, and basically all the doors were closed.

The famous Erwang Temple on Yulei Mountain is a place for worshipping Li Bing and his sons. Erwang Temple suffered great damage in the Wenchuan earthquake and was almost completely destroyed. Later, the state invested a lot of manpower and material resources to rebuild the two buildings, and now they are reopened to tourists. After experiencing the devastating blow of the Wenchuan earthquake, Erwang Temple has now been reborn from the ashes, and tourists are still flocking in and incense is still flourishing, which is a blessing for Dujiangyan.

The Erwang Temple commemorates Li Bing and his son. It has a history of a thousand years and has many relics from past dynasties.

These include the seven-character poem "Spring Thoughts" written by Emperor Jiaqing of the Qing Dynasty, the plaque "His Contributions to the Road to Shu" written by Emperor Guangxu, the plaque by Ding Baozhen, the Governor-General of Sichuan, and modern paintings by Xu Beihong and Zhang Daqian.

The words in Jiaqing's "Spring Thoughts" are nice, but the poem is just so-so.

Erwang Temple is a temple commemorating Li Bing and his son, the builders of Dujiangyan. The Erwang Temple has pavilions, terraces, and halls with flying eaves and brackets, which are simple and magnificent. There are clay statues of Li Bing and his son in the temple, and Li Bing's water control mottos are engraved on the four walls, including the "six-character formula": "deep digging and low weir construction"; "eight-character motto": "roundabout corners, straight and draw the center"; in addition, there is the "three-character classic" for water control. These buildings were severely damaged in the earthquake in 2008, but fortunately they have been rebuilt now. But unfortunately, they no longer have the simple and ancient flavor that I had when I came here more than 30 years ago.

Originally it was the Temple of Emperor Wang. During the reign of Emperor Ming of Qi, Liu Jilian, the governor of Yizhou, moved the Temple of Emperor Wang to Pi County. In the first year of Emperor Ming of Qi's Jianwu reign (494), in order to commemorate the great merits of Li Bing, the founder of China's Dujiangyan, the prefect of Qinshu County, and his son Erlang, the original Temple of Emperor Wang was rebuilt and renamed Chongde Temple. After the Song Dynasty, Li Bing and his son were successively conferred the title of king, so it was renamed the Temple of the Two Kings. It is adjacent to the Minjiang River, backed by the Cuiling Mountains, overlooking Qingcheng in the south, and connected to the Minshan Mountains in the west. The scenery is very beautiful from far and near, so it is known as the "Jade Fairyland".

On the wall in front of the temple gate is a "Dujiangyan Irrigation Area Map" drawn in the late Qing Dynasty, which is a very precious historical document. Under the Guanlan Pavilion in the temple, there are two "Three Character Classics" engraved on a row of red stone walls. One is the "Three Character Classic" compiled by Hu Qi, the magistrate of Guan County in the 13th year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1874), based on the experience of Dujiangyan in flood control in the past dynasties. The text says: "Six-character transmission, a lesson for thousands of years. Dig the center of the river and pile up the embankment. Divide it into four and six, and level the floods and droughts. Water draws symbols, and iron stakes are visible. Cages are densely woven and stones are installed. Corner mouths are built and sheep pens are installed. Pai Que is erected and leaking pots are left. Follow the old system and restore the ancient embankment." The other is the 32nd year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty (1906), when Wen Huan, the governor of Chengdu Prefecture, modified the original "Three Character Classic" and re-engraved it on the stone wall of Erwang Temple. The content is: "Dig deep the beach and build low embankments. The six-word principle will serve as a lesson for generations to come. Dig river sand and build embankments. Build fish mouths and install sheep pens. Set up Pai Que and leave leaky pots. Weave cages densely and install stones firmly. Divide into four and six to level floods and droughts. Draw symbols on the water and show iron stakes. Repair diligently every year to prevent disasters. Follow the old system and do not make changes at will." The "Eight-Character Classic" for water control summarized by later generations: "Take advantage of the situation and act according to the times", "Make bends and cut corners, and draw water from the center when encountering a straight line" are considered to be the philosophical essence of water control and are still widely circulated today.

It was my first time to eat vegetarian food. I paid 5 yuan for all I could eat but I had to wash the dishes myself. It was delicious! Dujiangyan Erwang Temple!

Erwang Temple was built for Li Bing and his son. If you want to go to Yulei Pavilion, you can go up from here. It's nice.

The temple is dedicated to Li Bing and his son. The Erwang Temple ancient building complex is located at the foot of Yulei Mountain outside the west gate of Dujiangyan today. It is an important part of the world cultural heritage Dujiangyan. The temple was built to commemorate Li Bing, the founder of Dujiangyan and the prefect of Qin Shu County, and his son Erlang.

Arriving at Dujiangyan, we first entered the Erwang Temple, where the spirit tablets and statues of Li Bing and his son, and Li Bing and his wife are worshipped. The temple is called "Erwang", which means that Li Bing and his son have been deified in the hearts of the people. In fact, since ancient times, there have been two people who have been most successful and talked about in governing the Kingdom of Shu. One is Li Bing, and the other is Zhuge Liang, who is familiar to everyone. But in the final analysis, Li Bing led the people of Shu to control water, repair mountains, and dig wells. Each achievement can be said to be real, making Shu truly become the well-known "Land of Abundance", and it is still called by people until now. So in my opinion, Li Bing's achievements in governing Shu are really great. Therefore, it is very reasonable for Li Bing to be called "Lord of Shu".

After walking around for a while, we finally found the Erwang Temple, which enshrines Li Bing and his wife and Erlang Shen Yang Jian. Legend has it that Yang Jian assisted Li Bing in building the Dujiangyan Irrigation System.
