The Paomashan Scenic Area is located south of Kangding City, at an altitude of approximately 2,700 meters. Local Tibetans call Paomashan "Lamze," meaning "Fairy Mountain." It is considered one of the most sacred mountains in the Tibetan culture, and from the summit, one can overlook the entire city of Kangding. To commemorate the birthday of Sakyamuni (the Buddha's Bathing Day), locals hold a grand ceremony on the eighth day of the fourth lunar month, known as the "April 8th" circumambulation of the mountain, along with horse racing. Notably, the circumambulation is also the only day on which admission to Paomashan is free.

You can take the cable car or the stone steps to reach Paomashan, but there are no signposts. Even if you saw the entrance to the mountain, you wouldn't know it was the way to the scenic area. I only found the entrance when I walked down the steps to the exit. I went up the winding dirt road, which had several signs prohibiting entry. After asking the locals, I decided to take the mountain road to the entrance of Paomashan Scenic Area. In good weather, it's not as dangerous as the upper one; it's just a horse trail.
Of course there must be horses at Paomashan, and there are also horse trails for riding.
During the circumambulation festival, it is very lively. People of different ethnic groups wear their own national costumes to participate. Lamas show the Buddha statues and perform rituals. There are also various small stalls, similar to the temple fairs in mainland China. Normally, the top of the mountain is just a small hill, and you can see the narrow Kangding City in the valley.
Tickets are 50, cable car 55, of course you can walk, it is said that it takes more than an hour to walk. Anyway, it costs 105 per person, I don't want to come again after coming here once.
The birthplace of the popular "Kangding Love Song" seems to still be lingering in my ears.
It should be said that it is a very famous tourist attraction, but the scenery is relatively ordinary and the fee is a bit expensive. If you are interested and have time, you can still go and have a look.
Paomashan is boring, it's a rip-off to take a taxi, not worth going
Inside was a primeval forest. Moss covered the ground, and there were plenty of wild strawberries—very pretty. A little further in, we reached the core scenic area of Paomashan—the racecourse. It was basically a small square with a 20-meter radius where you could change into Tibetan clothing and ride horses, and that was it. It was a bummer, wasn't it? Perhaps our expectations were too high; Paomashan wasn't as fun as we'd imagined, so we headed down the mountain around noon.
Tiaoma Mountain is a tourist attraction, but there is nothing to see, so we didn’t stay there for long.
There is just a small horse racing field built on the horse racing mountain where you can ride horses for a while. It is not worth visiting.
If the annual pass does not exempt the ticket, it is not worth going
Riding the cable car up and down was a bit boring, so we decided to climb the Golden Mount Temple in the distance. We were amazed by it. It was very natural and non-commercial, just like we were in Switzerland.
Giving one point is too much.
Tickets are 55 + cable car 50, 105. The scenery of the ocean is not worth mentioning compared to the picturesque Ganzi.
When we got down the mountain, we found out that this was a place designed to scam tourists.
Absolutely! No! Recommend! Go!
The place that Kangding Love Song took us to was so stunning that I didn’t remember it being so stunning.
Paomashan Scenic Area
This attraction is located on the hillside of Kangding County. In fact, I don't have much interest in it. From a rational point of view, it is a place you can go or not. It is a platform where you can ride horses at your own expense. In fact, it is a place for horseback riding, but the name is more poetic. If you are short on time, just skip it. You can visit the beautiful Kangding, and there are many places with amazing scenery.
I regretted not going there, and I regretted it even more if I went there, especially if I took the cable car up. When I got off the cable car, I found that I had to buy a ticket. It was just a dam, and I didn't see any big spots.
"On the hill where horses gallop, there is a cloud." A love song from Kangding made the Paomashan Mountain famous all over the world. It is usually deserted on the mountain, but it becomes very lively during local festivals.
At the end of May 2015, I happened to encounter the mountain circumambulation conference and stayed there for 3 days.
If you have a chance to go, I still recommend you to take a look (it is recommended to take the cable car up)
Honestly, there's really no need to make a special trip here, it's pretty ordinary. Of course, if you're on your way, you can still take a look.
Singing Kangding Love Song on Paomashan Mountain is a great experience.
Apart from Kangding County, there is Paomashan. I have hiked the Sichuan-Tibet line, so I am very familiar with this place.
Due to time constraints, we took the cable car up, and then there was a small square. We were so disappointed. We continued to the top of the mountain, but there was no surprise.
I personally think it is unnecessary, because the whole journey is cable car, cable car up the mountain cable car down the mountain, but the Kangding Love Song is indeed sung about this place: "On the mountain where horses are galloping..." Compared with other scenery, there is really nothing to do here.
Where can I see the scenery in this picture?
In May, I went from Chengdu to Kangding and then to Xinduqiao. Is there anyone I want to go all the way to? QQ group 136658659
It's a very tasteless scenic spot with no scenery and nothing to do. The temple on the top is nice and quiet.
The temperature at Paomashan on New Year's Day was only a few degrees, and there were few visitors. The mountain is not high, the cable car up the mountain is not safe enough, and some places are under repair and not open to the public. It does not feel as majestic as imagined.
Paomashan in Kangding, a legendary place.
Due to heavy snow, the Mugecuo Scenic Area was closed, so we could only go to Paomashan. I knew Paomashan from the famous lyrics, so I came to see this attraction with a little curiosity.
The scenic area requires a sightseeing cable car to reach the top. Upon arrival, you'll see the Auspicious Zen Temple. Since it's off-season, the mountain isn't crowded. Further up, there's a white pagoda, but it's currently closed due to the recent earthquake. Overall, Paomashan isn't very large and can be explored in about two hours.
You might be familiar with Kangding because of a song—yes! It's the Kangding Love Song, whose first line is "On the rolling hills of horse racing." This morning, there are few tourists on Paomashan Mountain. Sunlight filters through the dense branches, casting dappled shadows across the landscape. I expected Paomaping to resemble a vast alpine grassland, but it turned out to be a neatly planned circular racecourse, resembling a park. While a little disappointing, the beautiful weather made up for it!
I thought the racecourse would feel like a large alpine grassland, but it turned out to be a neatly planned circular racecourse like a park. Although it was a little disappointing, the good weather made up for it all!
Paomashan was originally famous for its horse racing. In the early 20th century, the race was held annually on the 13th day of the fifth lunar month, with jockeys from all over the country gathering at Paomaping to compete. The Tibetan name for this flat land, "Dengtola," means a flat surface like a horse's mat. In the early 1980s, Paomaping was renovated to divert floodwaters and level the surface, transforming it into a high-altitude "linka." It also provides an ideal venue for visitors to enjoy folk songs, dances, and dramas during festivals, as well as for horse racing events.
I'd give it a four. Let's start with the good news: there aren't many people here, and unlike other places, it's not as crowded. You're often the only ones on the road, feeling like you've taken possession of the entire mountain. There's a grassy area at Paomaping, perfect for sunbathing, chatting, snacking, and taking photos. The blue sky, green grass, and sunshine make you look beautiful in any photo. The path leading up from Paomaping is truly beautiful. The wind blows through prayer flags, and the sunlight shines through a thick carpet of pine needles, creating a tranquil scene. Climbing up to the Nine Dragons Bathing Buddha Temple, you'll find a solemn and majestic scene, offering a panoramic view of Kangding City.
The disadvantage is that most of the scenery is not spectacular and eye-catching. At the same time, if you climb the mountain by yourself, you will often feel lost. There are no road signs, and the road is overgrown with weeds. It is not like a scenic spot but a small hill behind the house.
The mountains near Kangding City are famous for songs, but their scenery is unremarkable.
The Paomashan Scenic Area is still underdeveloped. The cable car is very drafty, but it can be very cold when the weather isn't warm. There are many interesting small attractions on Paomashan, including a Tibetan temple on the mountain, which is quite magical. When we went there, there were very few people and it felt a bit desolate. I don't regret going there and I got to experience Tibetan culture.
It's right next to Kangding City, and there's a cable car going up, which is quite convenient.
The scenery here is nice, and you need the guidance of the locals to know the place
The song "Kangding Love Song" made Paomashan famous. In the summer, it's a great idea to take a cable car up the mountain with friends and bask in the sun on the lawn. Every April 8th, there's a Paomashan circumambulation event, featuring horse racing and song and dance performances.
I went there twice. The first time it was not fully developed and there were little squirrels jumping out on the road. The second time it was gone.
It's just famous because of that song, the scenery is just average!
We took the cable car to Paomashan and went down the mountain along the path at the back. At first, I was scared when I saw the cable car, but later my love and I mustered up the courage to sit on it. The higher we went, the more I liked it. On the contrary, my love became more scared as we got higher. She held my hand tighter and tighter, and her palms were sweating. Haha, the cable car moved slowly upwards, and the trees under our feet slowly retreated. At that time, I felt that the higher you stand, the better the view.
Because we went at the wrong time, the horse racing field was very quiet and there were very few people visiting. The scenery was not as good as we imagined, so we were a little disappointed. However, the view overlooking Kangding City was still quite spectacular.
Located south of Kangding City, Paomashan, known to the local Tibetans as "Lamuse," meaning "Fairy Mountain," is one of the Tibetans' most famous sacred mountains. To commemorate the birthday of Sakyamuni (the Buddha's Bathing Day), locals hold a grand ceremony on the eighth day of the fourth lunar month, known as the "April 8th" circumambulation of the mountain, along with horse racing.
By the time we got here, I was already experiencing a slight bout of altitude sickness. Even in summer, the altitude is so high that it's still quite cold, hovering just a few degrees above freezing. Wearing a thick jacket is essential, otherwise you'll be freezing. The best time to visit the Paomashan Scenic Area is from late June to late July. Because of the cold weather on the plateau, the grass here turns green later, and the flowers bloom later. The scenic area boasts many gently rolling hills covered in lush green grass, and meadows dotted with vibrant wildflowers. Against the backdrop of blue skies and white clouds, the scenery is breathtaking! Absolutely stunning! However, be sure to restrain your excitement and avoid running or jumping too hard on such vast grasslands, as this can easily trigger altitude sickness. There's an entrance fee of 90 yuan per person, but it's well worth the price for the stunning views.
Paomashan is named after the Kangding Love Song, but to be honest, the scenery there is really ordinary!
The tickets are expensive and the scenery is not that great, just a few horses on a hill.
Paomashan is famous because of the Kangding Love Song. In addition to a racecourse, there are also the Five-Colored Sea, the Buddha Bathing Pool, etc. Personally, I think friends who like horse riding can go to the mountain to ride horses. It feels great to gallop on the top of the mountain.
Paomashan is really very ordinary, it’s just because it’s in the song, so we think it’s a great place!
It's just famous. It would be a pity not to go. You will regret it if you go.
It is just so-so, but don’t be disappointed. The song is one thing, the reality is another, but in terms of natural scenery, the impact cannot be compared with the "Kangding Love Song" that sang across the country in the last century.
I went there during the National Day holiday, so not many people were there. I took the cable car for a few minutes and there was only a circular open space on top. There was no scenery, and it felt weird. I don't recommend it!
A Kangding love song makes people feel that they must go to Paomashan when they come to Kangding. In fact, it is just average and there is nothing to see.
I arrived at the ticket office and prepared to buy the ticket, but I heard from tourists who had just been there that it was not fun, so I didn’t go, haha.
The sky is very blue and beautiful, but it is difficult to climb due to the high altitude. The Five-Colored Sea is too far away and it is really difficult to climb.
I heard about this scenic spot when I was very young, but it was really not that great. It was just like a square for the locals. It was in the county town, and they even charged an entrance fee.
Not bad, the feeling at the top of the mountain is particularly light and comfortable. If you want to catch up with the Horse Racing Festival, the impression of Horse Racing Mountain will be even more profound.
Since it was a self-driving tour, I had free time to arrange my time. In the afternoon, I went to Xia Paomashan Park. The running track was pretty shabby and the park was just average, but there was a temple on the top of the mountain. It was the first time I heard sutra chanting there. It was so sacred and quiet, and I felt like I could listen to it all afternoon. The monks were so devout.
The scenery is great and the air is even better! ! ! ! ! !
Kangding's Paomashan Mountain is part of the Great Snow Mountain family. For nearly a century, it has been renowned both in China and abroad, inspired by the opening line of the poem "Kangding Love Song": "On the rolling hills, a rolling cloud!" Many mountains have become famous thanks to songs, and Paomashan is a prominent example. However, on sunny days, a few clouds often drift freely across the mountain, allowing people to express their feelings. The terraced area on the hillside of Paomashan Mountain is known as "Dengtuo" in Tibetan, meaning "cushion." During the Northern Song Dynasty, Ramu Temple (Fairy Temple) was built on this terrace. It flourished, attracting over 700 lamas at its peak, until it was destroyed in battle. During the Qing Dynasty, the chieftain of Mingzheng offered sacrifices to the mountain deity and held horse races on the Dengtuo Terrace on the 13th day of the fifth lunar month. Equestrian experts from farmers and herdsmen from far and wide came to participate. During the races, Dengtuo Terrace was packed with spectators from both urban and rural Kangding. Chieftains and wealthy families set up white tents at the edge of the forest to watch and have fun. During the race, the contestants all wore new clothes and rode on fine horses. At the beginning of the race, the chieftain gave the order, and the contestants rushed to the upper hill. The first one to reach the top won the first place, followed by the second to fifth places. The top five were rewarded with different amounts of hada, tea, and bonuses according to their ranks, and the last one was sprinkled with sticky rice noodles by the crowd to drive away bad luck. From the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, the horse racing meeting was held every year on the "Dengtuo" hill. Over time, the people of Kangding called this place Paomashan
I got to know Kangding because of a Kangding love song, but I only knew what the real Paomashan was like after I went there.
Located south of Kangding City, Paomashan, known to the local Tibetans as "Lamuzhe," meaning "Fairy Mountain," is one of the most famous sacred mountains in the Tibetan culture. To commemorate the birthday of Sakyamuni (the Buddha's Bathing Day), locals hold a grand ceremony on the eighth day of the fourth lunar month, known as the "April 8th" circumambulation of the mountain, along with horse racing. It's essentially just a small hill.
Anyone who comes to Kangding will unconsciously sing the Kangding Love Song, which is very famous.
To be honest, the only advantage of Kangding's Paomashan Scenic Area is that you can overlook the city of Kangding.
Located outside Kangding City, Paomashan is famous both at home and abroad due to the song "Kangding Love Song".
It became famous because of a song, but the scenery is really ordinary. It belongs to the type that you can go or not, or even not go.
The racecourse is too small. On a sunny day, the way down the mountain is more interesting than in the scenic area. The blue sky and white clouds, swaying wild flowers, and the quiet valley are quite beautiful.
It's the kind of place where you'd regret not going there, but would regret it more if you went there. There's nothing interesting about it.
The scenic spots you can choose from when chartering a car are definitely good, but the journey is quite difficult and there are no public services. The toilets along the way are 1 yuan, so be prepared to pay in change.
On the rolling hills...a rolling cloud...such a beautiful scenery is definitely not to be missed.
A small hill, I think it's very ordinary, no need to go
It's not very good, just like other man-made landscapes, there is no need to go
On Paomashan Mountain, where horses are often seen, there are really only a few temples and a "small playground." Since we were already there, we went anyway, even though everyone around us said Paomashan wasn't worth visiting. "You'll regret not going, but you'll regret even more if you go." I'm not sure if the "Paomashan" mentioned in "Kangding Love Song" refers to Guangliuliu.
There is actually nothing on the Paomaliuliu Mountain. It is just an ordinary hill covered with weeds. Everyone who has been there regrets it.
I originally thought Paomashan was a grassland where I could ride horses, but when I got there, I realized there were no horses or grasslands, which was completely different from what I imagined. Besides the temple and other scenery on the mountain, there wasn't much else to see, which was a bit disappointing.
Because before I went there, Paomashan was said to have been destroyed by a fire, and the scenery was not as good as before
In my uncle's words: If you don't go, you will regret it for the rest of your life. It's just a small dam, without much scenery to attract your attention.
Overall, the viewing experience is indeed limited, but its fame has long been known. For tourists, it is a bit "useless". It is still the same point of view, like the fox who ate the grapes and then said it was sour. A few information for other tourists' reference:
1. Fees: Tickets 50 yuan (40 yuan on Meituan); Cable car fee 35 yuan (round trip, 25 yuan one way);
2. You can go up and down the mountain without taking the cable car, but it will take more time;
The third core attraction is the horse farm-like area called "Love Song Terrace." You can ride horses. It was off-season when I went, and the price was negotiable. It was 25 yuan (for a circle around the horse farm), and I bargained for 20 yuan. The experience lasted only about two or three minutes.
4. The wind was very strong on the mountain, and the prayer flags on the mountain were dancing in the wind. In March, the snow on the mountain was still there, and there were a lot of hazelnuts on the ground, which were super large.
5. At the top is the Bathing Buddha Temple, which has a reading area where you can sit cross-legged and read books written by lamas on topics such as the outlook on life, money, and happiness.
In short, if you don't have too high expectations, it's fine, but one thing is certain, I will definitely not watch it twice.
