In the Mosuo language of the Naxi ethnic group, "Lu" means ravine and "Gu" means inside, which means the lake in the ravine. It is actually possible to complete it by cycling, but the road around Lugu Lake is much more dangerous than that around Erhai Lake, so no one recommends cycling around the lake. And because of the danger, Lugu Lake does not allow the rental of battery vehicles to circle the lake.

The weather was bad during our trip around the lake, so we didn’t fully appreciate the beauty of Lugu Lake! And we couldn’t see the starry sky at night!

The road from Lijiang to Lugu Lake was built in recent years. The road condition is very good. Now that the highway is open, more and more people are traveling to Lugu Lake. The Mosuo people by the lake have formed a cooperative to operate cruise ships. The fare is 80 yuan per person in this season. The boats are rowed by people, and there are no motorized boats. This environmental protection measure is commendable. The person who rowed the boat for me was a Mosuo woman in her 40s, and the person at the bow of the boat was a Mosuo man. It turned out that their village organized them to learn Mandarin the year before last, and after her family had a TV two years ago, she learned Mandarin from the TV.

The clear lake water can be drunk directly.

Because the water is extremely clear, the sunlight can reach the very deep bottom of the lake. Around the lake grow aquatic plants unique to Lugu Lake, which has a very nice name called "water lily" and is said to be very delicious!

There are many seagulls in Lugu Lake that come here to spend the winter, and tourists are strictly prohibited from feeding them. Someone on the same boat took out bread to feed them, but was seriously stopped by our boatman. I am very happy that they can strictly enforce this rule. The good ecology here is the prerequisite for their survival.

There is an island in the center of the lake. You can overlook the entire Lugu Lake from the island. When we got off the island, the boatman asked us if we wanted to go and see the springs on the island, where we could see spring water bubbling up from the bottom of the lake. If we didn't want to go, we would just return directly. If we wanted to, we would have to pay an additional 30 yuan per person. Ha, they also learned the tricks.

It was almost dusk after we circled the lake. After dinner, we had a bonfire party with singing and dancing Tibetan girls.

The tourism development of Lugu Lake is not long, and the commercialization is not high. It is a good opportunity to enjoy the natural scenery. The boats on Lugu Lake are all rowed by manpower, so each route is very slow. The only small boats are used for rescue, so as to protect the lake from pollution. The money earned by the locals from rowing is divided equally among everyone, and they take turns rowing. The word that the boatman repeatedly mentioned is "We are a big family", so there is no competition or anything.

The lake water is very clear and the visibility is extremely high. There are some places on the lake bottom where there are no water plants and white sand is exposed. It is said that this is where the spring water gushes out. When you arrive at the nearest island, you can choose to go directly to the island, or you can choose to go around the island for an additional 30 yuan and then go to the island.

There were eight of us together, and it seemed like my mom and I were the only ones complaining about the cold. It was so cold. It turns out that people from Northeast China are the least resistant to cold.

In the afternoon, the sky was just about to clear up and the sun was already shining. The ultraviolet rays in Yunnan are really pure. If you don’t apply sunscreen on sunny days for just one or two days, you will get tanned one degree, and you can’t even open your eyes without sunglasses.

The car drove to Luyuan Cliff and Xiaoluo River beside the highway, and the sky was already clear and blue.

But in November, Lugu Lake gets completely dark after 7pm, so the time for sightseeing is much shorter than in the peak season, and the outdoor temperature is lower at night. I originally brought a speaker with me this time, so I wanted to hug and dance with my lover when there was no one by the lake, but that became impossible. The temperature was so low that we wanted to fight each other to keep warm.

Lugu Lake, I really can't bear to leave you. After a few days of seeing you, your beauty has entered my heart, and your helplessness can also be felt. Travel has brought me wealth, but I have lost your original simple and pure life.

If you don't use a car to get around, it will probably take a whole day to walk and play with an electric car.

The temperature difference is emphasized. In fact, the temperature difference between Lijiang and Lugu Lake in winter is very large! So much so that we dress like we are going to Heihe when we go out for dinner at night. The sun is bright at noon, the ultraviolet rays are strong, and the weather is changeable, so bring an umbrella when you go out.

We ate stone pot fish around the lake, rowed boats, visited Caohai and the Marriage Bridge, and stayed by the lake at night. If nothing else, it was really freezing.

But then, at night in Lugu Lake, I felt the malice of the cold winter.

The next morning, when I looked at the other side of the lake, there was still a thin layer of fog on it. It was definitely a fairyland. There was also the Geminid meteor shower last night.

The sunrise of Lugu Lake is around 7:45. The next morning we went around the lake. There are usually 4 ways to go around the lake. Chartering a car is convenient, but there is a sense of distance. However, you can ask the driver to stop along the way, or get off the car to walk around and see the beautiful scenery. There is no sense of freedom. The next is bicycles and electric cars, but believe me, in this season, it is better to sit in the car. Bicycles will definitely be very tiring when going uphill, and electric cars will worry about running out of power. On the way to Rige, you will pass a beach, where you can see the lake up close and feed seagulls.

When I first saw Lugu Lake, I saw the endless blue waters that stretched all the way to the horizon. A boat just floated on the lake, and it seemed to be half suspended in the air.

We played the boating project, 200 per person, to an island in the middle of the lake, it took less than an hour, we chartered a boat from Trang Province to Koh Ngai in Thailand for only 400 RMB. When the sun came out from the mountains, there was a cheer, the sun illuminated the lake, and the body instantly warmed up. The whole journey is 68 kilometers around the lake. Cycling clockwise, there are more climbs from Daluoshui to Lige Peninsula, and the road is mainly downhill and flat. Since the temperature was only 2-3°C in the morning, I waited until the sun came out before setting off. 09:30-16:30, walking and stopping, the scenery is particularly beautiful. I found that the section from Xiaoluoshui to Zu Wharf is quite beautiful, but the transportation may not be very convenient, and the supporting facilities are not very complete, so it is not very popular. It takes about 4 hours to get from Lijiang to Lugu Lake on a winding mountain road. The mountain road is full of bends. I don't know how many mountains I climbed to reach Lugu Lake. Maybe it is because of this that Lugu Lake and the Mosuo people have a sense of mystery. The road is particularly difficult to walk. The driver has to add water to cool the brakes halfway, which is still quite scary. If you are carsick, you must bring motion sickness medicine, otherwise you will vomit until your stomach cramps. You must bring cotton clothes. In addition, when staying in an inn, you must ask if there is air conditioning. An electric blanket alone froze us all. There is basically no clinic in Lugu Lake. It is best to bring some common cold medicine when you go there by yourself, just in case. I took a boat to Dear Inn. I felt that there was nothing to see. It has now been changed into a local inn. You can't go indoors, you can only go outside, which is not worth seeing. We had a group meal at night. It is said that this group meal is the best food in the local area. The specialty dish is pork fat. The pigs are slaughtered and the bones are removed. Salt and pepper are sprinkled in the abdominal cavity, and the pigs are sutured and marinated into a complete cured pig. It is said that it can be preserved for up to 80 years without deterioration. When guests come to their home, the Mosuo people will use it to entertain guests. During the meal, the Mosuo tour guide Alang also performed for us to drink half a bottle of white wine in one breath. It is incomparable. The boyfriend who claims to be able to drink all the time was scared and dizzy after two cups of highland barley wine. It was funny that he said he was a little dizzy. But the dishes in Yunnan are really too light. We who are used to eating Northeastern dishes need to add some spicy fermented bean curd to feel the taste. After dinner, we walked back to the inn. Lugu Lake only repaired street lights the year before last, but it will only light up during festivals. At night, along the path, I accidentally looked up at the sky. It was unexpectedly beautiful. It was really full of stars. It felt like I could grab a handful of stars with just one hand, but it was a pity that the mobile phone could not take the effect. At night without air conditioning, we could only stay in bed and rely on electric blankets to keep warm. We must find an air-conditioned room!!! The next day, we got up early to watch the sunrise. We saw the sun slowly peeking out from the valley. It was dazzling but we were reluctant to leave. As we watched the sun gradually emerge completely, Lugu Lake in the morning seemed particularly quiet. The last itinerary was to visit the Mosuo family. Amei took us to visit the grandmother's room and introduced the customs of walking marriage, the gate of life and death, and some local customs and habits. To put it bluntly, the ultimate goal was to sell silverware, but it was not mandatory to buy it. It depends on personal preference.

Lugu Lake spans the border between Yunnan and Sichuan provinces. The west belongs to Yunnan and the east belongs to Sichuan. The familiar Luoshui Village and Rige Peninsula are both on the west side. The accommodation conditions and facilities here are relatively complete. The airport bus will only stop at a few inns on the west side and will not go to the east.

Many well-known attractions of Lugu Lake, such as Goddess Bay, Lover's Tree, etc., are on the east side. However, the inns here are relatively less dense than those on the west side. However, there are still many of them. Most of the high-quality characteristic homestays are concentrated on the east side.

Staying on the west side:

Advantages: Check in to the hotel quickly, you can go directly to the hotel after getting off the bus, there are many restaurants and markets, and all kinds of services are relatively complete.

Disadvantages: noisy, crowded, far from tourist attractions, few characteristic inns.

Staying on the east side:

Advantages: It is very close to the scenic spots, so you can see the most beautiful view of Lugu Lake without having to walk around the lake, and it is quiet.

Disadvantages: After getting off the bus, you need to charter a car or take a boat to the other side of the lake. Chartering a car costs about 150. If you are alone on the boat, the boatman may not send the boat. Also, if it is late at night, the waves on the lake are very big and it is very dangerous, so the boat will not send out.

To sum up, if the purpose of your trip is leisure sightseeing and you have enough money, or if you have limited time and hope to visit most of the attractions in Lugu Lake in one day, it is recommended to stay on the east side; if you have more time and like to live in a more lively place, or if you arrive late on the day, it is recommended to stay on the west side.

Originally, watching the sunrise and sunset was also in the itinerary, but I didn’t want to get up early for sunrise because of physical reasons, and the sunset was because the sky was cloudless in this season, and the sunset without clouds was not so beautiful. I would like to visit Lugu Lake in different seasons if I have the chance. I would like to see the sunrise at Xiaoluoshui and the sunset at Jishentai (these two places are the best places to watch the sunrise and sunset, according to the locals).
