After being blocked by the Hailuo cliffs at Shigu Town, the Yangtze River makes a sharp V-shaped bend and flows northeast, forming the first bay of the Yangtze River.
Here you can see the magnificent scenery of the Yangtze River, Lancang River and Nu River flowing together.
The river water is turbid during the rainy season. If you want to see the clear green water, it is best to come between December and March of the following year.

There is an observation deck on the side of National Highway 214, on a high-rise building. The view is not very good and you can't see much scenery. There are all kinds of stalls on the first floor. Not many people go there and there is no one charging upstairs. The toilets are priced uniformly worldwide, one dollar per person.
The First Bay of the Yangtze River
On March 6, 2017, I chose to join the travel agency's one-day tour to Tiger Leaping Gorge, with no shopping. Each person paid 218 yuan, a total of 436 yuan. Itinerary: Lijiang - Yangtze River First Bay - Sangushui - lunch - Tiger Leaping Gorge (upper).
From Lijiang, we took a bus to the First Bend of the Yangtze River for sightseeing and photography, and then rafted to the Sangu Water Scenic Area. The ticket price was 160 yuan per person, and the cost was at one's own expense. Although it was a voluntary choice, everyone chose rafting.
The First Bay of the Yangtze River: Located between Shigu Town, Lijiang City in the northwest of Yunnan Province and Shasongbi Village in the south of Shangri-La County, it is 1,850 meters above sea level and 130 kilometers away from Shangri-La County.
The Yangtze River rushes down from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, enters Yunnan in Batang County, and flows through the mountains and valleys of the Hengduan Mountains together with the Lancang River and the Nujiang River, forming the magnificent landscape of "Three Parallel Rivers". When it reaches Shasongbi Village in Shangri-La County, it suddenly makes a sharp turn of more than 100 degrees and turns northeast, forming a rare "V"-shaped bend. "The river reverses here and rushes into the magnificent Central Plains." People call this wonder of the world "the first bay of the Yangtze River."
After breakfast, we drove from the north gate of Lijiang Ancient Town to the first bend of the Yangtze River.
The scenery on both sides of the First Bay of the Yangtze River is beautiful. We took a long cruise ship with more than 10 people on each boat.
You must go to the hillside and overlook the First Bay to get the best visual effect!
The first bend of the Yangtze River is very beautiful. Also, there is no formal scenic spot, and there are too many weeds, so this picture had to be photoshopped out of some of the weeds.
It’s a free attraction, and it’s pretty special. Normally, when you come here, you need to bring a drone, otherwise you won’t be able to capture that sharp V-shape. Trust me!
The First Bend of the Yangtze River is on the way to Tiger Leaping Gorge. You can just take a look at it when you pass by, but it is not recommended to come here specifically.
The First Bay of the Yangtze River is located between Shigu Town, Lijiang City, in the northwest of Yunnan Province and Shasongbi Village in the south of Shangri-La County, with an altitude of 1,850 meters. The Yangtze River rushes down from the "Roof of the World" - the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, enters Yunnan in Batang County, and flows through the mountains and valleys of the Hengduan Mountains with the Lancang River and the Nujiang River, forming the magnificent landscape of "Three Parallel Rivers". When it reaches Shasongbi Village in Shangri-La County, it suddenly makes a sharp turn of more than 100 degrees and turns to the northeast, forming a rare "V"-shaped bend. "The river reverses here and rushes into the Central Plains for a magnificent view." People call this wonder of the world the "First Bay of the Yangtze River."
The location is not easy to find, and the transportation is not very convenient. It is suitable for chartering or renting a car. And we saw many billboards of "Yangtze River First Bay Viewing Platform" along the way, and it is easy to go wrong. The correct location is just after entering Shigu Town. The inn on this viewing platform charges a mountain fee, which is also very casual. There are two of us, and they asked for 20 yuan per person, and they would not waive the mountain fee even if we ate at their house. In the end, we bargained and paid 15 yuan per person for the mountain fee. However, the scenery is really amazing!
Very stunning scenery. But you need luck. The color of the river changes with the season. Most importantly, you have to stitch the pieces together to get a panoramic view. 14mm is not enough.
The First Bend of the Yangtze River is on the way to Shangri-La. Go up to the observation deck and look around to see a sharp turn in the river.
We set out from Lijiang and passed through the First Bend of the Yangtze River. This time we were led by our driver and tour guide Ajun. We climbed so high that I was so tired that my thighs were sore the next day. The angle was better and the scenery was naturally more beautiful.
The roadside viewing platform is not the best location, you have to go halfway up the mountain!
I wonder if I was fooled by the tour group or something? I didn't see the bay!
The weather was good and the scenery was beautiful, but the water was not clear.
Why is the water in the first bend of the Yangtze River so muddy? I came here because it looked so beautiful in the photos! I didn't expect to see it like this when I came here.
I only went to the viewing platform recommended by the tour group. The view was limited, and it seemed impossible to overlook the First Bay.
On the first day, I was inevitably surprised to see mountains that were different from those in Guangdong. At first glance, the clouds covered the mountains like cream, but upon closer inspection, the mist slowly rose with a fairy-like air, just like ice cream!
You cannot see the entire First Bend of the Yangtze River from the place marked as the First Bend, nor can you see it by climbing up the toll tower. You have to go up the mountain.
It was still very spectacular, the water was flowing very fast, at that time I was thinking that if I fell in I would disappear in an instant.
I came to the first bend of the Yangtze River at a wrong time, so I didn't see the most beautiful moment. I heard from the locals that the river water is blue from November to April of the following year, but after April, the rainy season comes and the rain washes the mud from the upper mountains into the river, so the river water turns yellow. In fact, there was originally a small beach in the middle of the river, but now the river water has submerged the beach during the rainy season.
On the way from Lijiang to Tacheng, you will pass the First Bay of the Yangtze River. The scenery here is beautiful and pleasant, the river flows gently, and the river valley is wide, like a small Jiangnan.
A must-go place to Shangri-La, a rest and viewing spot
There is no entrance fee, but you need to climb about seven flights of stairs to reach the observation deck. At that moment, I was quite disappointed, after all, I didn’t see any scenery and was very tired.
Free attractions, worth a visit, very spectacular, but there is no need to spend time here alone, you can just visit it on the way
This attraction is free, but there is no good viewing platform. You can only see the magnificent scene of the first bend of the Yangtze River by aerial photography. Or you can enter Shigu Town and let the villagers take you to the small hill behind the village to take panoramic photos, which requires a fee.
The location for photographing the First Bend of the Yangtze River was not the so-called viewing platform led by the tour group, but on the back mountain of the shooting house in Shigu Town. November is not the flood season, so the First Bend photographed is a little thin.
Maybe it was because of the weather, I couldn't see how beautiful it was, it was foggy and I couldn't see where the bay was.
You have to go directly to the top of the mountain to see its true form.
It was a place called Shigu Town. The first house you enter is the best location. The owner led us through his house and then up the mountain along the narrow path. There were three platforms for shooting. Of course, you have to pay. Nine people paid 50 yuan in total. God is willing. The sky is clear, blue sky and white clouds, rape flowers are yellow, and the river water is clear. All the elements are there. Except that the wide angle is not wide enough, there is nothing to complain about.
The view from the observation deck is not very good.
The First Bay of the Yangtze River. Due to limited time, I could only take a look at it from a distance on the observation deck.
The First Bend of the Yangtze River, after a round trip by car, I realized that this is the most beautiful time. But what is the special feature is that the water is emerald green, which is very beautiful. Passing by here is also a beautiful sight.
The viewing location is not high enough to see the whole view. If you have a drone, you will be invincible.
A nice view on the way! You must take some photos. But the place for taking photos is circled, there are tourist products for sale inside, and there is a fee to go upstairs to take photos, which is not good!
Maybe I just have a bad eye and fail to appreciate his unique beauty...
A good place with good scenery. I...
There seems to be no dedicated viewing platform for the First Bay of the Yangtze River. You need to pass through the homes of local residents on the mountainside and then climb up the hillside behind to see the panoramic view of the First Bay (charges apply)
The real first bend, where the river changes from north-south to east-west, is more significant than the scenery. You must stand on a high place to see it. You can't see anything from the riverside. The scenery in the early morning is still very beautiful.
I passed by here on the way to Shigu Rock Climbing. The scenery is quite spectacular and worth seeing. If the weather is good, you can also take good pictures. Friends who like traveling can add me on WeChat: wocaibupang. Let's exchange information and share experiences together.
The scenic spots on the way to Meili Snow Mountain are good.
On the way to Shangri-La, we encountered many observation decks. The first bay of the Yangtze River is here. The scenery is really beautiful, and it also adds a lot of fun to the journey from Lijiang to Shangri-La.
The angle is not as good as in the promotional pictures, and you have to queue up and pay to use the toilet.
There is nothing to do or see. I stopped there just to go to the toilet. There are a few mountains and a small stream in the distance.
The main viewing point is from a grandstand, and there is an additional fee to go to the highest point. There are many small commodities on the way up, but it is not recommended.
The first bend of the Yangtze River is located in Shigu Town and is most beautiful when the rape flowers bloom in early spring every year.
Few people can take a panoramic photo of the first bay. You have to go up the mountain.
It is just an ordinary viewing platform. The bus stops here for half an hour, which is a bit of a cursory tour.
I just took a look at the observation deck, but I didn't have a deep impression.
There is nothing to see here. Although I don't feel shocked
You need to stand at a high place and stay away from the river, otherwise you can't see anything. The Yangtze River turns a bend here. But when you drive here, you have to slow down carefully on the hillside. There are people waiting for you to violate the rules and pay the fine. If you drive a little faster and come down the mountain before you see the Yangtze River, you will have to pay 200 yuan first.
It’s my first time seeing the Yangtze River. It feels great.
【First Bay of the Yangtze River】, Recommendation Index: No index. The so-called viewing is just standing in the attic and watching from a distance (only the top of the attic can see it). Each floor of the attic sells small commodities and local specialties. Each floor is surrounded by a circular path with commodities. You can only move forward along the path, so you have to browse these commodities (browsing three floors). When you really reach the top, there is still one more step to see the first bay. Two uncles who collect tickets sit there with cigarettes in their mouths and say "five yuan per person to go upstairs". This is a bit unfair. It is more appropriate to say "the first bay of the shopping mall" rather than "the first bay of the Yangtze River". The greatest significance of this attraction is that you can go to the paid toilet to use the toilet, one yuan per time.
The first stop is the first bay of the Yangtze River. Next time, I must feel your beauty up close.
The water is clear and everyone noticed the spot. Very nice.
It is about 45 kilometers from Lijiang to the First Bend of the Yangtze River, and it only takes about 1 hour to drive there. I stood on the river bank and watched it, so I didn’t take pictures of such magnificent scenery. The nearby villages are basically all tourism industries, which feels a bit deceptive, so try not to buy food and water in the village.
The Yangtze River rushes down from the "Roof of the World" - the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, enters Yunnan in Batang County, and flows through the mountains and valleys of the Hengduan Mountains together with the Lancang River and the Nujiang River, forming the magnificent landscape of "Three Parallel Rivers". When arriving at Shasongbi Village in Shangri-La County, it suddenly makes a sharp turn of more than 100 degrees and turns northeast, forming a rare "V"-shaped bend. "The river reverses here and rushes into the Central Plains." People call this wonder of the world "the first bay of the Yangtze River." The instant feeling of the Arabian wind is to cover the strong direct sunlight and ultraviolet rays of the plateau~
If there were no words like "The First Bay of the Yangtze River", few or almost no one would stop here! Passing by is just ordinary mountains and rivers, and some scenery may not have any special features, but once it is nominated as a tourist attraction, it becomes a trend for travelers to visit it, and a circle of friends knows it.
The First Bend of the Yangtze River is not far from Lijiang. From the mountain, you can see the Yangtze River circling the mountain through the swirling clouds; when you go down to the river, you can even see people drifting on the river.
On the way back to Lijiang from Shangri-La County, we passed this place and the driver stopped to let us take pictures. The legendary First Bay is a river winding around a mountain in the distance, and the view is very bad. The driver said that the "First Bay" seen on TV is actually an aerial photo! Oh ~ it was a waste of time!
Knowledge: The Nu River, Lancang River, and Yangtze River originally flowed in a Sichuan-shaped direction. The Nu River runs from north to south and finally flows into Southeast Asian countries. The Lancang River also runs from north to south and finally flows into Xishuangbanna. In the Lijiang area, the Yangtze River changes its course and flows eastward, becoming China's No. 1 river.
Actually, it is a resting point for buses from Lijiang to Shangri-La. It is free to go to the first floor, and what you can see is what is in the photos. Going to the second floor actually costs money, so I didn't go up. By the way, you have to pay 1 yuan to use the toilet here.
Passing by the First Bay, it is very beautiful, on the way to Shangri-La
The First Bay of the Yangtze River is located between Shigu Town, Lijiang City, in the northwest of Yunnan Province and Shasongbi Village in the south of Shangri-La County, with an altitude of 1,850 meters and a distance of 130 kilometers from Shangri-La County. There is a direct road to the First Bay of the Yangtze River. When the Yangtze River reaches Shasongbi Village in Shangri-La County, it suddenly makes a sharp turn of more than 100 degrees and turns northeast, forming a rare "V"-shaped bend. "The river reverses here and rushes into the magnificent Central Plains." People call this wonder of the world "The First Bay of the Yangtze River."
The driver and tour guide we hired said that the images of the Big Bay in the picture albums cannot be seen here, as they were all taken with an aerial camera.
From the perspective of ordinary people, there are junk shops and shopping spots all the way to the observation deck. But the weather was good in the morning, and we could see the Jade Belt Cloud.
It feels like a supply point, so it is considered a tourist attraction. I just took some photos at the observation deck.
On the way from Lijiang to Shangri-La, the tourist bus always stops here as the first stop, overlooking the first bay of the Yangtze River.
It is about 50 kilometers from Lijiang to the "First Bay of the Yangtze River". The Yangtze River, which is rushing down, is blocked by the Hailuo cliff in Shigu Town and turns sharply into a "V"-shaped bend, turning to the northeast, forming the famous First Bay of the Yangtze River. It is said that here you can see the Yangtze River, Lancang River and Nujiang River flowing through the high mountains and deep valleys of the Hengduan Mountains, forming the magnificent landscape of "Three Parallel Rivers". We stopped at a free viewing point on the way from Lijiang to Shangri-La and turned to Shigu Town. Unfortunately, it is not the best viewing point. You can't see the panoramic view of the "V"-shaped bend. You can only see a clear green stream flowing quietly, with layers of terraces and quiet villages next to it.
Maybe due to the weather and other reasons, I was unable to fully appreciate its beauty. This attraction requires climbing up to a viewing platform on about four floors, and then looking at it from a distance, which really seems a bit perfunctory. In addition, the wind was so strong that some travelers had their hats blown away.
It is a scenic spot on the way to the tour. You can't see the real bay from the observation deck unless you take aerial photos.

"The river flows in reverse here and rushes into the Central Plains to expand." People call this wonder of the world "The First Bay of the Yangtze River." According to legend, during the Three Kingdoms period, after Zhuge Liang pacified Nanzhong, he "crossed the Lu River in May" here. In 1253 AD, Kublai Khan "crossed the river in a leather bag" here again.
There is nothing to see. The water of the Yangtze River is really yellow.
A stop on the way, many tourist buses stop here, but it doesn't matter whether you go or not.
The First Bay of the Yangtze River is located between Shasongbi Village in the south of Shangri-La County, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture and Shigu Town, Lijiang, at an altitude of 1,850 meters. The driver who rented the car lived there. It is a beautiful place with clear water and mountains. September is also the most beautiful season.
A place that can only be visited by self-driving tours, it is indeed the best place for photography
The First Bay of the Yangtze River is formed when the Yangtze River is blocked by the Hailuo Cliff in Shigu Town and turns into a V-shaped bend and flows northeast. Here you can see the magnificent landscape of the Yangtze River, Lancang River and Nujiang River flowing together.
Passing by here on the way from Lijiang to Benzilan, it is a very crowded scenic spot. We didn't even bother to look at it at that time.
However, there are many fruit trees and farmland nearby, so the fruits are very fresh and cheap. We bought a big bag of strawberries for 7 yuan, which were very sweet and delicious! There are also other fruits such as peaches, cucumbers, tomatoes, plums, etc. The cucumbers are also very fresh!
In fact, we passed this place again on the way back, but it might not be the same viewing point. The viewing point on the way back was the best, so we were able to take a close-up of the V-shape.
