Legend has it that Dayu died here while controlling floods and was buried in the shadow of Kuaiji Mountain, where he was later worshipped. The scenic spot was rebuilt on the original site, leaving few remaining traces. The so-called Dayu Mausoleum is merely a temple dedicated to Dayu; his actual mausoleum remains unknown. Annual local ceremonies honor Dayu in memory of this legendary leader. The tour takes approximately two hours and can be combined with the main Kuaiji Mountain scenic area. Shaoxing's scenic spots currently offer both standalone and packaged tickets. Packages offer a combination of attractions and are slightly cheaper than purchasing each separately.

Kuaiji Mountain, the site of ancient Yue Zhen Hai Du worship, was the Southern Guardian. Emperor Taizu of the Ming Dynasty issued an edict honoring Kuaiji Mountain as the Southern Guardian God. A large-scale Nanzhen Temple once stood at its foot. As a quintessential representative of traditional Chinese mountain and river culture, Kuaiji Mountain was originally a Taoist sanctuary. Now that the Five Guardian Mountains culture has been forgotten, the scenic area has unsurprisingly become a renowned Buddhist sanctuary, attracting numerous visitors. The main scenic area of Kuaiji Mountain is relatively small, and a half-day tour from the memorial archway to the summit is sufficient. Kuaiji Mountain's topography is typically hilly, with high vegetation coverage, but average biodiversity and natural landscape resources. From the summit, one can overlook the entire city of Shaoxing.

Dayu Mausoleum, also known as Yuxue in ancient times, is the burial place of Dayu. It is located at the foot of Kuaiji Mountain, outside Jishan Gate in the southeast of Yuecheng District, Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province, 3 kilometers from the city center. It is backed by Kuaiji Mountain and faces Yuchi Lake.

Yu the Great was a flood control hero in ancient times. He was the founding emperor of the Xia Dynasty, China's first dynasty, and is revered by later generations as the "Father of the Nation." During the Hongwu reign of Emperor Taizu of the Ming Dynasty, Yu the Great's Mausoleum was designated as one of the 36 royal tombs nationwide for commemoration.

In 1995, the Zhejiang Provincial and Shaoxing Municipal People's Governments jointly held a public memorial ceremony to restore the tradition of worshiping Yu.

By qiongruo |

The trees in front of the statue of Yu the Great should not be so tall as to block the view. There is a stone tablet from the Eastern Han Dynasty on the hillside to the main hall of the Yu Temple. The bamboo forest at the entrance to the mountain of Yu the Great Mausoleum is amazing.

It is said that this is the place where the ancient figure Dayu is buried.

Legend has it that Dayu convened a meeting of princes at Kuaiji Mountain and was buried there after his death, so the Dayu Mausoleum was built here.

One day, I went back and forth from the city twice but failed to get in. The journey took more than half an hour, and I was always notified that I was not allowed to enter when I arrived, which was a waste of tourists' time.

A sage throughout the ages, admired by later generations, Dayu’s flood control skills will be remembered forever.

I went there during the summer vacation of my sophomore year, organized by the college. It was a wonderful memory.

We have visited all the scenic spots at the foot of Dayu Mausoleum and were debating whether to climb to the top of the mountain. Later, we found that the Bird Park can be reached from another road at the foot of the mountain, so we decisively changed to the Bird Park. It turned out to be the right choice. The children had a lot of fun playing with peacocks and watching parrot performances in the Bird Park!

By Gao Xinsheng |

After entering the gate, you'll have to walk nearly a kilometer, past various newly placed stone statues and a fountain nearly halfway through. Here, you can pay homage to Emperor Yu, who dedicated himself to public service, even passing by his home three times without entering.

By Novice |

There are some ancient steles to see, recording stories of ancient people offering sacrifices to Yu the Great. Otherwise, there's nothing much to see; most of it looks silly, imaginary reconstructions made by later generations, and feels sloppy. Climbing Kuaiji Mountain is even more silly, because once you finally reach the top, you'll find the viewing platform is completely blocked by trees. Unless you're Ultraman, you can't see anything.

By Bodhi seeds |

The attraction is average and I feel it is not worth the ticket price. It can be regarded as a commemoration of Dayu!

By Rubik's Cube Bear |

Located on the Second Ring Road, the Mausoleum of Yu the Great is known as the Kuaiji Mountain (Dayu Mausoleum) Scenic Area. Kuaiji Mountain is believed to be the site of Yu the Great's mausoleum, and during the Ming Dynasty, Nan Daji, the prefect of Shaoxing, erected a stele dedicated to the mausoleum. From the scenic area entrance to the summit, there are 957 steps. These steps are paved with stone slabs, making the climb easy and not too tiring. From the summit, you can overlook the entire city of Shaoxing.

By Tamama |

This time we only visited Dayu Mausoleum, which is just a corner of the scenic area.

By Tamama |

This is just a corner of Kuaiji Mountain. Because I ate a lot at the hotel buffet breakfast that day, I climbed the stairs to help digest the food.

By Mars User |

It is one of the better-developed scenic spots in Kuaiji Mountain. One ticket includes Dayu Mausoleum, Xianglu Peak and Bainiao Garden. However, when I went there, the mountain road from Dayu Mausoleum to Xianglu Peak was closed. I don't know if it was because of the snow. I had to go back to get to the other side.

By Mars User |

Only Dayu Mausoleum and Xianglu Peak are well developed in Kuaiji Mountain, Shaoxing. The ticket price is 65 yuan per person. Although the altitude is only more than 300 meters, it is still fun to climb the mountain.

By Ordinary life |

Yu the Great's Mausoleum, formerly known as Yuxue, is the burial place of Yu the Great. It is nestled against Kuaiji Mountain and faces Yuchi Pond. It is located at the foot of Kuaiji Mountain, just outside Jishan Gate, southeast of Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province, 3 kilometers from the city. Yu the Great was an ancient flood control hero and the founding emperor of the Xia Dynasty, China's first dynasty. He is revered by later generations as the "Father of the Founding Nation."

Yu Temples are basically buildings from the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China. Many of the stone statues on both sides of the sacred way are mythical beasts from ancient legends.

By China-TravelNote users |

I came here to learn a lot about Dayu's flood control stories, listened to the explanations, and got to know more about the Nine Cauldrons. The scenery on the mountain is also very beautiful, it is worth a visit.

By zxw |

It's a good place to go hiking, and the tickets are not expensive. You can also go to the White Bird Park to see peacocks and many other species of birds. At the top of the mountain, you can also overlook the city of Shaoxing from the Dayu sculpture, which is quite nice.

By If I don't travel, I'll get old. |

Because it was too hot, I didn't go hiking. I burned some incense and left. I was so tired.

By Great White Bear |

It is inside the Mausoleum of Yu the Great, where you can go hiking and go quite far.

By Early Sun |

Because there were so many people lining up for the Wupeng boats at East Lake, I was disappointed not to get one. But here, there was no one in line. I was happy. The scenery here is beautiful. Sitting on the boat, the willow trees on both sides of the river slowly moved behind us.

Dayu has become a mythical figure among later generations, and Dayu Mausoleum has become a scenic spot where you can hike. It is recommended to spend 2-4 hours there.

By Ma Xiaojun DreamAx |

There are more than 1,000 steps. I met many children along the way. It was interesting to guess what animals the stone statues on both sides of the road were.

By Silent Valley Facing the Wind |

During the Tang and Song dynasties, in addition to the "Five Mountains", there were also the titles of "Four Towns" and "Five Towns". The "Southern Town" among them was Kuaiji Mountain. Currently, the main attraction in Kuaiji Mountain Scenic Area is the Mausoleum of Yu the Great.

By Xia Yanwu |

To be honest, it's a bit of a rip-off. The scenic area is quite large, but there's not much to see. Maybe it's more lively during the sacrifice to Dayu. You can climb the mountain to see the Dayu statue on the top of the mountain. Due to time constraints, we didn't climb the mountain. There is also a relatively small bird park inside.

By Fire Monkey |

The whole scenic area is very large, the mountain is not high, and the

From the top you can see the whole city from a distance!

By March 3 |

I only visited the Mausoleum of Yu the Great, where there is a statue of Yu the Great on the mountain, but I gave up because the path was all steps. Xianglu Peak is said to be nice, but I didn't go there due to limited time.

By Leyou |

Inside is the Mausoleum of Dayu. Climb to the top of the mountain and you will see a statue of Dayu. It is very majestic and the view from the top is very spectacular.

The scenery is nice. It is said that Dayu's tomb is under the Dayu Mausoleum Stone Stele in Kuaiji Mountain. You can go and pay your respects.

By Garfield |

Dayu Mausoleum is located in Kuaiji Mountain. There are free buses going there during holidays. I heard that there are sometimes sacrificial activities. The scenic area is relatively clean and you can walk around and have a look.

By Yang Dazhuang |

As for the name of this scenic area, I've always felt that Kuaiji Mountain is a better choice than Dayu's Mausoleum. In ancient historiography and literature, Kuaiji Mountain is clearly more frequently mentioned, and it's more justified, not likely to be changed due to Dayu's great achievements. However, no trace of Goujian can be found in the Kuaiji Mountain Scenic Area today. The passage about Wang Xizhi's "Preface to the Lanting Anthology" is also located in Lanting, another scenic area. We've also not seen the legendary tomb of Wang Yangming. Instead, the only traceable source is Dayu, the oldest and most ancient.

The most iconic features of Dayu Mausoleum are the Hall of Worship, where Dayu was worshipped, and the towering statue of Dayu, visible from the summit after climbing over 950 steps. The scenery is pleasant, with mountains and trees, though the bamboo forest blending in with the trees somewhat loses its artistic conception. The cultural relics are all later constructions, and aside from the towering statue, there's nothing particularly distinctive about them.

The legendary tombs of Xu Wei and Wang Yangming were not found. I think as a scenic spot, if it could do more to explain the stories of Gou Jian, Wang Yangming and others, it would be much better than simply promoting Dayu alone. Unfortunately, I didn't see any.

The scenic area also has a bird park that seems unrelated to the theme park, but it is worth a visit. At first, we didn't have high hopes, thinking it was just a pigeon farm. But when we got there, we found that there were actually many birds here, not only pigeons and peacocks, but also a variety of wild ducks, pheasants, swans, cranes, doves, ostriches, and a fun parrot show.

You can also take a swan boat on the lake at the foot of the mountain, but it is recommended to go to the East Lake Scenic Area.

By babykat |

The main attraction is the Dayu Mausoleum Scenic Area. There are more than 900 steps to climb, so be careful if you have weak legs. The mountain scenery is nice and solemn, which is completely different from the beautiful and elegant mountain scenery of the Lanting Scenic Area.

By 💯Andrew |

There are not many tourists who come to Huiji Mountain (Dayu Mausoleum) to climb the mountain and breathe fresh air.

By vincent |

I went there for the fame of Kuaiji Mountain, but it's just a small hill with more than 900 steps. If you don't care about humanities and don't know about Dayu, you won't find it interesting.

By Peanut (Beijing) |

We visited Kuaiji Mountain in the rain and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. We also appreciated the beauty of Wang Xizhi's Qushui Liushang.

By A wave in the waves of Dalian |

Yes, after entering the scenic area through the gate, you have to walk a very long way to reach the center of the scenic area. There are stone statues of the twelve zodiac animals on both sides of the road.

By Arron1990 |

Kuaiji Mountain is a scenic spot that often appears in the poems of scholars and literati. The famous saying "The chirping of cicadas makes the forest even quieter, the singing of birds makes the mountain even more secluded" is a praise for Kuaiji Mountain.

According to legend, the tomb of Emperor Yu of Xia was located on Kuaiji Mountain, making the Mausoleum of Yu the Great a major tourist attraction. From afar, you can see the mighty bronze statue of Yu the Great standing on the top of Shifan Mountain.

Along the way, the tulips were in full bloom, bright and dazzling.

By Take a nap°🐝 |

If you go there during holidays, I recommend climbing the mountain in the morning, as I personally find it very tiring.

By sf9088 |

I only went to Xianglu Peak. The search took ages, including a trip through a local university. The sunshine was intense in May, so I slept at the entrance before heading up the mountain. I hate climbing mountains, so I stopped halfway up (and ate two five-yuan tea eggs).

By Chunchun's Little Treasure |

Here are some of my favorite pictures: there are mountains, water, peacocks, and sparrows.

By who I am |

Dayu's hometown, located on Shiniu Mountain in Mianwei Town, is a must-see stop on the way from Chengdu to Wenchuan. The statue of Dayu stands majestically, gazing out at the surging Minjiang River and welcoming visitors.

By China-TravelNote users |

Kuaiji Mountain is quite large. You can drive in after checking your ticket. The actual ticket check is at the entrance. Kuaiji Mountain is where Dayu was awarded and buried. The fountain at the entrance has not changed. In fact, it can be made into a musical fountain, which will be better. The weather was too hot so I didn't go up the mountain. The staff said that there was nothing on the mountain except the bronze statue of Dayu. In fact, it was just a climb. In fact, the mountain is not too high. I walked around for a few days. It was too hot so I didn't go up the mountain. I just walked around at the foot of the mountain. There was nothing there.

By Hahaha, cute Nini |

Not recommended, especially in summer. It's so hot and boringヽ(ー_ー)ノ

By Wensy |

Climbing up Kuaiji Mountain was really exhausting. For me, mountain climbing has always been a purely physical exercise. During the climbing process, I don’t think too much. I just climb step by step. The desire to reach the top overrides everything. However, this time I climbed Kuaiji Mountain alone. It was my first time climbing a mountain alone. I hummed Li Bai’s "Dreaming of Wandering on Tianmu Mountain and Chanting a Farewell Song" on repeat: "Wearing Xie Gong’s clogs, I climbed the ladder to the blue sky. I saw the sea sun on the half wall and heard the rooster in the sky." Kuaiji Mountain and Tianmu Mountain are not related at all, but I felt sorry for Kuaiji Mountain if I hummed like this.

After reaching the summit, I saw a stone tablet praising Dayu's achievements. On the one hand, I marveled at Dayu's greatness and the power of words, but on the other hand, I wondered if this was the standard for a perfect essay. (I'm a child who's been poisoned by the test-taking process.)

My legs were shaking as I walked down the mountain. To ease my emotions, I couldn't help but hum "Farewell" and "Water Melody" on repeat: "The morning rain has moistened the dust in Weicheng, the green willows in the guest house are new. I urge you to drink another glass of wine, for there will be no friends west of Yangguan."

By Wensy |

After my visit, I realized how weak my historical and cultural knowledge was. Every building in Dayu Mausoleum is imbued with profound Chinese culture, including ancient characters, architecture, and historical stories. I resolved to master Shuowen Jiezi (Shuowen Jiezi) so that I could decipher ancient characters with ease when visiting any ancient site.

By Ride the pig forward |

Wang Xizhi wrote the Lanting Preface roughly in this area, though the exact location is no longer verifiable. There's also the ancient Yue King's Tomb next door, but I'd like to highlight two places I discovered myself that many people overlook. If you're interested in literature and history, the tombs of Xu Wei and Wang Yangming are approximately 10km and 18km from the Lanting Scenic Area, respectively. If you don't even know who these two are, skip this section.

The Huiji Mountain Scenic Area is located southeast of Shaoxing. It consists of two areas: the Mausoleum of Yu the Great and Xianglu Peak. The Mausoleum is accessible on foot from the base of the mountain. The bronze statue of Yu the Great is located at the top of the mountain, a bit further away. Atop Xianglu Peak is a Hufeng Zen Temple, which costs 35 yuan and includes a free shuttle bus.

By FLY Danny |

Because I drove by myself and bought a pass, I was tricked into coming to this scam. If you drive by yourself, you can pay 10 yuan and drive about 1 km and then enter the main sacrificial area. Otherwise, you have to walk for a while, or be tricked into taking a black-sailed boat. "The whole Shaoxing is full of nonsense black-sailed boats. Wherever there is water, there will be a black-sailed boat to cheat people out of money. As for the scenic area, after entering the gate, there is the sacrificial mausoleum road and then the main hall. On the left is the ancestral temple and on the right is the Yu Temple (the gate you will exit later is there). These parts are very small and can be completed in half an hour at most. In addition, there is a mountain path with 950 steps leading to the bronze statue of Dayu halfway up the mountain behind the sacrificial hall. It's okay to climb it when the weather is good, but in the hot summer, the whole path is so airtight that it will heat you to death. Moreover, at the top, there is only a large modern bronze statue and nothing else, and there is no view down. In general, if I didn't have the pass, I would not come here

By Pocahontas |

It's a great attraction. We first went to Dayu Mausoleum and spent 2.5 hours there. Xianglu Peak closes at 5pm and took 40 minutes to climb up and down. We were not in a hurry and walked around slowly.

By Rice balls karenchow |

It's very close to where we live, and it's said to be the burial site of Yu the Great. Honestly, I always thought Yu the Great was a mythical figure! I've known the story of Yu the Great controlling floods since I was a kid! I definitely had to come and pay my respects. The environment here is also quite nice. The statue is at the top of the mountain, and you need to take Bus 11 to get there. It's quite a trek for those who don't usually hike.

By Yahui |

Dayu's burial site is nestled between mountains and water. From south to north, the buildings are the screen wall, the Kuei Pavilion, the Lingxing Gate, the Wumen Gate, the sacrificial hall, and the main hall. This place is steeped in history.

It's a symbolic attraction, there's nothing special about it. It's built on the mountain. From a distance you can see the huge stone statue of Dayu on the top of the mountain. It doesn't have any special features.

After visiting the Keyan Scenic Area, there's a bus that ends at Dayu Mausoleum, so I stopped by. We won't discuss Dayu Mausoleum, but I'd like to mention that we ran into a Japanese tour group on the way out. That's beside the point, though. The point is that we ran into two other Japanese people who were alone. One of them looked an awful lot like Uchida Yuki, a man I've seen in every movie and TV series since D x, dating back over a decade. This was a younger version with long hair. I wanted to rush over and ask, full of affection, "Where did you buy that coat?"

I didn't expect it to be so big inside. It was tiring to walk around, but there were few people. I still like this.

Yu the Great Mausoleum is a scenic spot in the Kuaiji Mountains. It is the burial place of Yu the Great, the ancient Chinese flood control hero. It sits against Kuaiji Mountain and faces Yuchi Pond. It is relatively close to the city center and easily accessible by bus. In addition to the Yu Temple, Yu the Great Mausoleum also boasts a statue of Yu the Great on the summit, resembling the Monte Cristo statue in Brazil. Every April, the state holds a public memorial service at the Yu the Great Temple.

Kuaiji Mountain is undoubtedly an integral part of the cultural history of the ancient Yue Kingdom. It was here that King Goujian of Yue slept on straw and ate bitter food, inspiring his ambitions for innovation. Kuaiji Mountain boasts a profound cultural heritage. It is one of the renowned mountains honored and worshipped by successive Chinese emperors, the first of the Nine Famous Mountains of ancient times, and one of the birthplaces of Chinese urban landscape gardens. Scholars and scholars throughout history have left behind numerous masterpieces.

By Small Life |

I went during the 2016 Spring Festival and only visited the Yu Mausoleum section. The scenery is beautiful, there are many ancient artifacts, and each attraction is closely themed around Yu the Great. The song about Yu the Great that was sung over and over was incredibly disturbing. The lyrics are in ancient Chinese, but the arrangement is Western, making it sound like something from a church choir.

By 🐯Q→ìng🐎 |

Kuaiji Mountain is quite large, and I couldn't walk much anymore, so I didn't climb it. My kids had a blast at the Bird Park. They saw lots of pigeons at the entrance, and lots of peacocks roaming freely. It was the first time I'd seen so many peacocks, even walking along the sidewalk. The parrots were so playful, swaying around. It was definitely worth it.

The most infuriating thing was that I saw a thermos at a street vendor in Classic Street and wanted to ask for some hot water to make milk powder for my baby, but they told me it was 2.5 yuan a cup. They must be crazy about money.

Reference time: 2 hours

The bus can only stop at the outermost area. It takes about 10 minutes to walk from the entrance to the main scenic area through the sacred road. If you drive yourself, you can park directly at the entrance of the main scenic area! Of course, you can also choose to take a Wupeng boat for this section of the journey.

Yay! We came here inspired by the story of Yu the Great's flood control! Tulips were in full bloom when we arrived! Afterwards, we climbed to the statue of Yu the Great. Although there were 957 steps, it didn't feel tiring at all. Afterward, we had a HI-5 with Yu the Great! If you're visiting Shaoxing, you should definitely experience this! :)

The whole mountain is nothing special. You have to buy a ticket to go up the mountain, and you have to buy another ticket halfway up the mountain. When you reach the top, congratulations, you will see a huge statue of Dayu, and then you can go down the mountain...
