From a distance, Luojia Mountain resembles a sleeping Buddha on the sea. Legend has it that it is the sacred place where Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva originated and practiced. The mountain is shaded by fine trees and lined with numerous nunneries. There's a saying that goes, "If you haven't visited Luojia Mountain, you haven't completed your pilgrimage to Mount Putuo." Looking out over Mount Luojia, I see a sleeping Buddha, peacefully reclining on his back. Put your hands together, bow down and worship from afar, and your restless heart will instantly be at peace.

Just one of the landmarks of Putuo Mountain...very good
Bodhi Luojia, a homophone of the Potala Palace in Lhasa
There is a saying that a trip to Putuo Mountain is incomplete if you don’t visit Luojia Mountain. It was indeed worth the trip!
Luojia Mountain, said to be the place where Guanyin Bodhisattva practiced Buddhism, is as famous as Putuo Mountain and a sacred Buddhist pilgrimage site, often referred to as "Putuo Luojia Mountain." Buddhists have a saying: "If you haven't visited Luojia Mountain, you haven't completed your pilgrimage to Putuo Mountain." Located southeast of the main island of Putuo Mountain, Luojia Mountain is considered Putuo Mountain's "smaller planet." On the mountain, you'll find Yuantong Zen Temple (Yuantong Nunnery), the Great Compassion Hall, the Great Awakening Hall, the Jialan Hall, the Five Hundred Arhats Pagoda, and the Forty-Eight Vows Pagoda, all worth visiting. The Longquan Ancient Well, the Immortal Bridge, and the Crystal Palace radiate ancient charm. Most notable is the lighthouse on the northeastern hill, the legendary "Luojia Light."
The coastline of Luojia Mountain is 3.33 kilometers long, and the beach area is about 0.074 square kilometers. It is an acute triangle, running north-south, about 1.05 kilometers long from north to south, about 0.6 kilometers wide from east to west, and covers an area of about 0.36 square kilometers. The highest peak is 99.3 meters above sea level.
To reach Luojia Mountain, you must take a ferry from the Duangudaotou Pier on Putuo Mountain. It's said that the ferry from Putuo Mountain to Luojia Mountain runs three times a day: at 7:00, 8:00, and 1:00 PM. Others say there's another ferry at 9:00 AM. Since I haven't been there, I can't comment on this.
From a distance, Luojia Mountain resembles a giant Buddha reclining on the Lotus Sea, earning it the nickname "Reclining Buddha on the Sea." Legend has it that this is the sacred place where Guanyin Bodhisattva originated and practiced. A notable mention is that there's a Tudigong (Earth God) at the dock. After worshipping, you can wait for the boat back to Putuo Mountain's Duangu Wharf.
You only need to walk along a path up the mountain to worship Buddha and burn incense. In addition, there is no commercial route on the island, so it is best to prepare dry food and water by yourself in case you get tired or hungry.
You must go to the ticket window to buy your ticket before 6 a.m. (there are discounts on tickets), and then you have to queue up next to it to get on the boat. You will have to go through security check at 7:00. If you carry a small bag, you can greet the security check and say you are waiting for water, so you don't have to go through security check. The boat takes 20 minutes to reach Luojia Mountain. First, you have to go up the mountain road. The whole mountain road takes about 10 minutes. There are 7 halls on this road. There is incense at the first hall, but there is a person wearing a mask. If you go to take the incense without paying, he will ask you if you don't have money. There is incense on the left side of the second hall. No one is watching, so you can take it at will. There is no incense for the next few. The last lighthouse is where tourists stop. It takes about an hour to reach the end. It is best to return by the same route before 8:30 and queue up for the 9:00 boat to Putuo Mountain. Otherwise, you will miss the boat at 1:00 p.m.
It is worth a visit. If you don't go to Luojia Mountain, you can't fully understand the Guanyin of the South China Sea.
Be sure to have enough energy to go to Luojia Mountain, because you have to climb up and down the mountain to complete the journey, and you have to go back the same way on the way back.
Looking from the pier, it really looks like a sleeping figure.
This is the place where Guanyin Bodhisattva practiced, so it is very popular. I got up early with many pilgrims and queued up to take the first ferry just to experience it.
The scenery is great, I really like the feeling here, but the prices of meals are generally much higher, but going out is a spending activity, so you should be more open-minded to avoid being ripped off.
From a distance, it resembles a sleeping Buddha on the sea. This is a small island not far from Mount Putuo. The boat ride from Duangu Wharf on Mount Putuo to Luojia Mountain takes about 30 minutes. Legend has it that this place is the sacred place where Guanyin Bodhisattva originated and practiced Buddhism. Like Mount Putuo, it is a popular Buddhist pilgrimage site, historically known as "Putuo Luojia Mountain." Buddhists say, "A pilgrimage to Mount Putuo is not complete without visiting Luojia Mountain."
Luojia Mountain is very crowded, so if you want to catch the 7:00 PM ferry, you need to queue up before 6:00 PM to buy tickets. After buying your ticket, you'll have to queue again to board the ferry, so it's best to queue separately. During peak season, the ferry runs continuously, so you don't have to worry about missing your flight. During your visit, it's best to sit on the left side of the second deck of the ferry to see the Nanhai Guanyin (Avalokitesvara of the South China Sea) bidding you farewell. A visit to Luojia Mountain typically takes half a day, so allow plenty of time. The mountain's statue of the sleeping Guanyin is a rare sight and well worth seeing.
I waited in line at the pier for two and a half hours but still couldn't get a ticket. I had to stand the whole time.
Arriving at Putuo Mountain in the morning, I went to Luojia Mountain Scenic Area first. I had to buy extra boat tickets and tickets. After 25 minutes, I did not pass through Wugongzhi. I had to go through Putuo Mountain. It is said that this is the place where Guanyin practiced when she first came here.
For people who go to Putuo Mountain every day, we provide Putuo Mountain chartered car service. You don't have to waste too much time on the tour. We provide full-time car pick-up and drop-off. If you need to contact QQ471620061
You have to take a boat to get there, which is a little far!
The place where Guanyin Bodhisattva practiced Buddhism can be reached by boat from Putuo.
To reach Luojia Mountain Scenic Area, you need to take a boat from Putuo Mountain Scenic Area, usually leaving in the morning. After landing, there are spiral steps leading to the temple on the top of the mountain. Luojia Mountain is not as large as Putuo Mountain, and the temples are concentrated on the mountain. Usually, believers who go to Putuo Mountain will go to Luojia Mountain to worship.
It is said to be the holy place where Guanyin Bodhisattva originated and practiced.
It is a very small island. Starting from Putuo Mountain, there is only one road on the island. It takes a long time to walk through it. The pictures are all from Luojia Mountain to see other places.
You need to take a boat to get here. It's not too far. If you go to Putuo Mountain, of course you have to go here.
From Duangu Daotou, it's about a half-hour's journey east to Luojia Mountain. Luojia Mountain lies southeast of Putuo Mountain, facing it across the sea. Historically, Putuo and Luojia have been linked together. Legend has it that the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara first cultivated himself and attained enlightenment on Luojia Mountain before establishing the Avalokitesvara monastery on Putuo Mountain. This is why there's a saying that "a pilgrimage to Putuo is not complete without visiting Luojia Mountain."
I woke up at 6:00 AM, had lunch, and rushed to the pier to catch the first boat. After buying my ticket, I found a long line forming at the boat station. After a long wait, I finally got on the boat.
Boat ticket + island fee 70/person
Suitable for leisure travel, fresh air, beautiful environment, I will go there again in the future! Recommended~~~
The islands affiliated with Putuo Mountain can be visited by boat from Putuo Mountain.
Every time I come here, my heart is particularly peaceful. If I have the time and conditions, I will definitely stay in Putuo Mountain for a month.
There are only four boats a day from Putuo Mountain to Luojia Mountain, departing at 7:00, 8:00, 9:00 and 1:00 p.m. Tickets can only be purchased on the day of the ferry, and the round-trip ticket will take about 90 minutes to stay on the island.
The Nanhai Guanyin statue is very magnificent, with the spirit of saving all living beings. When we arrived at the Purple Bamboo Forest, we felt like we had arrived at Guanyin's home.
They say you haven’t visited Mount Putuo until you’ve visited Mount Luojia! So everyone should definitely go!
This is the place where Guanyin Bodhisattva practiced, so it is very popular. I got up early with many pilgrims and queued up to take the first ferry just to experience it.
It may be that the season is wrong. The sea water is turbid, the sea breeze is strong, and there are many people on the boat, but it is very orderly. However, every time I take the boat, I sit at the bottom of the boat, the air is not circulating, it is stuffy and there is a strange smell.
[Luojia Mountain is Not to Be Missed] A separate ticket is required to travel from Putuo Mountain to Luojia Mountain, costing 67 yuan. Note that the boat schedule is limited: two in the morning and one in the afternoon, with additional departures during peak season. Therefore, it's recommended to purchase your ticket at the Putuo Mountain Pier early in the morning. Boat trips may be suspended in the summer due to strong winds. The boat ride takes about 20 minutes, and upon arrival at Luojia Mountain, there are numerous temples to visit. If you're a devout Buddhist, you can't miss the bustling temples and the incense path. We recommend bringing appropriate shoes, as the ascent involves many stone steps, and completing all the worships takes about two hours. If you're just looking for a quick tour, stick to more crowded areas.
Luojia Mountain, located approximately 5.3 kilometers southeast of Putuo Mountain, is said to be the sacred site where Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva originated and practiced. Covering an area of approximately 0.63 square kilometers, its highest peak is 97.1 meters above sea level. Its winding shores and surrounding rocky reefs are a myriad of forms, resembling countless colorful corals surrounding a celestial mountain. This mountain is part of the Buddhist sacred area of Putuo Mountain and is said to be the place where Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva practiced.
It takes about 15 minutes by boat. From a distance it looks like a reclining Buddha.
Putuo Mountain is a famous scenic spot. The whole Putuo has beautiful scenery and is a Buddhist holy place.
Everyone who comes here must visit the whole place. It is very beautiful. Feel the atmosphere of Buddhism. Coming here makes my heart feel calm.
You have to take a ferry to get to the island! The ferry is a bit rare, and you need to walk all the way to the pier, otherwise you will be late! The boat back to Putuoshan stopped sailing very early.
The scenery is nice, it really feels like a fairyland. It is one of the larger attractions on the island worth visiting. You must go and see it.
Looking out from under the Nanhai Guanyin statue, if you want to go there, there is transportation, but it is not very convenient.
The Putuo Mountain Scenic Area may be very large and I didn’t find the specific location.
I usually give 5 stars, but it's just average.
The beauty of mountains and rivers lies in the artistic conception.
It's said that a trip to Putuo without visiting Luojia is only halfway to completing the journey. The boat from Putuo to Luojia should arrive early, otherwise you'll face long lines and waits. Luojia Mountain has a limited number of attractions, and the round-trip ticket, including the scenic area, totals 63 yuan. The boat ride out and back, plus an hour in Luojia, is enough to explore the entire area.
There are two speedboats arriving at the small island near Putuo Mountain in the morning and afternoon. Tickets can be purchased to enter the mountain.
It's a very small island. There was no one on the island at noon. The same boat goes back and forth!
The first time I went to Putuo Mountain, I had no intention of going to Luojia Mountain. I met a group of people who came to worship Buddha. We chatted and they recommended us to go. They said that if you come to Putuo and don’t go to Luojia Mountain, it’s like you haven’t been there. There are Buddhist scriptures on Luojia Mountain that you can take home and read. We happened to have half a day left and didn’t know what to do, so we went to Luojia Mountain. What a coincidence!
A quiet road leads to a temple. Inside the temple, there is a lot of incense, but you may accidentally turn into a quiet path.
If you go to Putuo Mountain to worship Guanyin Bodhisattva, basically no one will miss Luojia Mountain. Luojia Mountain is the dojo of Guanyin Bodhisattva. It is a small island not far from Putuo Mountain. There is a boat to Luojia Mountain around 7 o'clock every morning, so you must go to the pier to queue up early in the morning. After getting off the boat at Luojia Mountain Pier, you can reach it by climbing a short mountain road. The area is not large and the return trip can be completed in about an hour.
Standing on the stand, you can see the whole reclining Buddha and the vast sea.
Very good scenery requires a boat ride! Worth a visit
Luojia Mountain is where Guanyin Bodhisattva cultivated and attained enlightenment, and after achieving enlightenment, she traveled to Putuo Mountain to preach the Dharma. Therefore, Luojia and Putuo are inseparable; worshipping Putuo without worshipping Luojia is only half the worship. Luojia Mountain is not very large, and the lighthouse at the very corner is currently under renovation and closed to visitors. It took me just over an hour to worship here.
Tourists are not allowed to stay in Luojia Mountain. There are no hotels or inns. It is free from worldly hustle and bustle and has become more pure. It is truly a blessed land.
If you don't go to Luojia Mountain, you won't be considered to have completed the pilgrimage. Many ancient Buddhist knowledge sites can be seen here.
Let me briefly talk about Mount Luojia. The boat ride there takes about 20 minutes and is very stable. In fact, it is very comfortable even without paying extra money. When you get to the pier, there is only one road going up. You don’t have to walk all the way to the end after getting on. You can worship directly when you see few people~~ They will tell you what time the boat will leave when you get off the boat. Usually there is more than enough time, so don’t worry. Some of the steps are quite high, so be careful. The Goddess of Mercy for Children is in Dajue Temple, which is almost the last temple. The incense is very popular. I actually cried when I was worshipping the Goddess. I don’t know why, I just felt like I finally saw her.
Having reached Putuo Island, why not visit Luojia? This tiny fairy island is a must-see. Luojiashan Island, less than half a square kilometer, is a final act of respect for the Buddha.
I just remember there were so many stairs that it made people dizzy walking up them.
Luojia Mountain lies southeast of Putuo Mountain and is faintly visible from a distance. Legend has it that this is the birthplace and sacred place of Guanyin Bodhisattva, making it particularly spiritual. There's a saying that visiting Putuo Mountain without visiting Luojia Mountain is like burning half an incense stick. To reach the Luojia Mountain Scenic Area, you need to take a boat, so be aware of the round-trip time.
The Luojia Mountain Scenic Area is not big, but the environment is very good. There are few boat trips back and forth every day, so be careful not to miss it.
Note: There are only four boat trips a day from Putuo Mountain to Luojia Mountain: two in the morning and two in the afternoon. However, the number of trips may be increased based on the number of tourists during busy periods. Tickets are valid for a round trip on the same trip.
The ticket to Luojia Mountain is a round-trip ticket. Having read other travelogues before, my husband and I headed straight to Dajue Temple after arriving at Luojia Mountain, where we prayed all the way down. Of course, you can also start at the top of the mountain and pray one by one.
There are two boats to Luojia Mountain in the morning, at 7:00 and 8:00. The boatman will tell you the return time, so don't miss it! If you miss it, you can't come back. If you want to go to Luojia Mountain, you must pay attention to the weather. If the wind is strong, the boat will not stop going.
It is recommended that tourists who go to Luojia Mountain walk all the way to the end and then worship back, otherwise they will be crowded with a large number of people in the tour group and will not be able to experience anything.
Boats to Lokkar only run between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM and 1:00 PM daily, but the pilgrims are always flocking, so it's important to arrive early to avoid missing out on tickets. After nearly two hours of waiting for the boat and buying tickets, we finally arrived at Lokkar Mountain. While the island is small, it's densely packed with temples, and even the most devout believers would have to bow their heads with every step.
Upon reaching Luojia Mountain, there's a burning station at the entrance. You can hand over your scriptures and other paper items to the monk, who will do the burning. Then, you'll be on your way up the mountain. Remember! Don't stop at any temples along the way. Keep going until you see the ocean and hear the announcement, "You've reached the summit." Then, on your way back, visit each temple one by one, symbolizing "escaping the sea of suffering and achieving nirvana and rebirth." Halfway through, you might think the path ends, but there's actually a circular gate on the left. Once you pass through, the path opens again. Once you've completed the journey, take the 8:50 a.m. boat back home, so arrive at the dock earlier than that. Here, I met three nuns who had arrived on the same boat as me. They kowtowed every three steps, their foreheads bruised. Tears welled up in my eyes, but I didn't dare say a word. Just like my title, the power of faith!
After arriving at Luojia Mountain, you can basically spend 90 minutes on the tour, going up the mountain to burn incense and then down the mountain, which is definitely plenty of time. There are no commercial activities on Luojia Mountain, no food or accommodation, so don't miss the return trip.
Luojia Mountain isn't large, so you can walk through it quickly. It's also my favorite part of the entire Putuo Mountain Scenic Area. Incense is provided free of charge to pilgrims. There are no hotels, guesthouses, or restaurants, and there's hardly a hint of commercialism. It's a truly ancient mountain, with its Miao and pagoda trees, and pristine natural beauty. I'd go again if I could. However, the last boat was at 9:30, so I had to rush to pay my respects to all the bodhisattvas. Waiting for the boat was actually quite pleasant.
They say a trip to Putuo without visiting Mount Luojia is like missing half the journey. Even at this early hour, there were already pilgrims arriving earlier than us, and we waited almost an hour before boarding the boat. It's important to note that due to the high passenger volume during the Spring Festival, the boat to Mount Luojia runs on a rotating schedule. During normal times, there are only a few scheduled departures, so it's not a free-for-all. Please note this. Upon reaching Mount Luojia, we headed directly to the farthest temple, Dajue Zen Temple, which houses the "Sending Child Hall," a truly spiritual site that's a must-visit. Due to time and energy constraints, we didn't visit all the smaller, more recently built temples along the way. Returning around 9 a.m., we noticed the line for the boat to Mount Luojia was several times longer than it had been two or three hours earlier. There was even an armed police presence, so waking up early is crucial when the crowds are high.
The boat dock to Luojia Mountain is a little past the entrance to the mountain. It's easy to find by asking the servants. When I got there, there were already many people queuing to buy tickets, and many people burning incense were squeezing in and out, and the queue was very serious.
Special note: You can also use your student ID card here!
Once you get to the island, you'll realize the saying, "If you haven't visited Mount Luojia, you haven't burned half the incense." So, you absolutely must go. You need to take a boat to Mount Luojia. The pier isn't the same as the one at Mount Putuo, but on the road leading to the Guanyin Temple of the South Sea. Remember to avoid the wrong line while waiting at the pier. I asked my husband to buy the tickets first while I waited in line, and I ended up foolishly following a bunch of tour groups. It was only my husband who told me to leave. It was a real waste of time.
It was my first time to visit Mount Luojia. It's a small island, but it's dotted with temples of all sizes. It's quite mysterious. When I got out of this gate, there was a stone tablet with the name of Mount Luojia. This is the top of the mountain. I went back and forth to each temple, burning incense and taking pictures. One hour was enough for me.
But the island is an island in the ocean after all, and the wind is extremely strong!
I bought a boat ticket to Luojia Mountain in the morning. The scenery on the island was good and the mountain was not too high.
Luojia Mountain has quite a few attractions, including the Wensi Pavilion, Maitreya Hall, Miaozhan Pagoda (the Five Hundred Arhats Pagoda), Jialan Hall, Yuantong Zen Temple, Dabei Hall, Dajue Zen Temple, and the Forty-Eight Vows Pagoda. While there's plenty of time to explore, the hike up and down the mountain after reaching the dock is quite tiring. You don't need to bring incense or pay for it. There's a dedicated incense distribution point in front of Maitreya Hall, where everyone can receive free incense for all the incense burning spots on the mountain (three sticks per spot). Luojia Mountain also has several dedicated points for free hot and filtered water, a thoughtful gesture for visitors. The temples on Luojia Mountain aren't large, but each one is unique and well worth a visit.
It is recommended to take the 7 o'clock ferry early in the morning. After getting off the ferry, walk to the end of the road first, and then worship from the entrance to the Jietuo Gate and walk back. This way you can avoid the peak flow of people after getting off the ferry and have enough time to worship.
The entire route to Luojia Mountain is lined with steps, and you'll see many devout believers performing a prostration, sometimes three prostrations and nine prostrations. The view of the sea from Luojia Mountain is breathtaking, with the sea and sky blending into one. There's also a stele inscribed with the words "Luojia Lingshan" written by Yu Qiuyu.
To go to Luojia Mountain, you need to take a boat from the pier next to Putuo Mountain Passenger Station.
