Nanxi River Scenic Area

This place can truly be said to have beautiful mountains and rivers. Even during the National Day holiday, there are still few tourists here.

The night by the Nanxi River is as starry as yesterday. The stars and moonlight illuminate the mountains and guide people in their direction.

Amidst the darkness, a bright light appeared on the river. A fisherman slowly approached on a bamboo raft. All around was a tranquil and peaceful scene, enveloped in the warmth of the fishing fire. A few cormorants stood on the raft, their cries echoing.

As the sunrise casts its shadow, the river turns golden. The fishing lights gradually fade, replaced by the morning mist. What is a paradise? One mountain, one water, one boat, one person—so simple and pure—this is a paradise.

The Nanxi River Scenic Area covers a total area of 671 square kilometers and is divided into eight major scenic areas: Da Nanxi, Shiwei Rock, Dayuo Rock, Taiping Rock, Yantan River, Sihai Mountain, and Yuantou, with over 800 scenic spots. The Nanxi River connects ancient villages such as Linkeng Village, Cangpo Village, and Furong Village, as well as renowned mountains and rivers such as Yandang Mountain and Dayuo Rock. The area's core rural scenery, where the intertwining of mountains and water creates a breathtaking beauty, is home to numerous local specialties, such as meat-filled swallows, Qingming fruit, winter and spring bamboo shoots, and rice paddy fish.

Recessed green mountains, gurgling streams, and enchanting coastal scenery showcase the gentle grace and elegance of the Jiangnan waterside villages, leaving you captivated and mesmerized.

The Nanxi River Scenic Area is a vast expanse of ancient villages, mountains, and water, with numerous scenic spots and attractions. In the summer, you can enjoy rafting. Transportation is convenient, with both public transportation and self-driving available.

The bamboo rafts are deserted and quiet during the off-season. It is cloudy when you go there.

If it weren't for the chilly weather, I would have stayed all morning. Sitting on the leaning branches of a tree on the bank, on the scattered rocks by the river, the sun strained through the gaps in the clouds, bringing a moment of warmth. I clung to this place, the lush green mountains, the rice paddies, the flowing water—lush and vibrant. The green of Jiangnan at this time is truly beautiful.

The Nanxi River is a National AAAA-level tourist attraction and a World Geopark. A dedicated tourist highway runs from Shiweiyan to Yanhu Lake between these two national scenic areas.

The Nanxi River, with a total area of 671 square kilometers, is divided into seven major scenic areas: Da Nanxi, Shiwei Rock, Daruo Rock, Taiping Rock, Yantan River, Sihai Mountain, and the source, with over 800 scenic spots. Scenic areas along the river are home to numerous nationally protected precious tree species, including Taiwan Beechwood, Ginkgo, and Populus chinensis.

The scenery is nice and the water is clear. It should be fun to raft in the summer.

I visited this place with family and friends during National Day in October 2018! The Nanxi River is clear, the mountains are tranquil, and the people are elegant. It's comparable to my hometown, Mopanzhai Village. Many attractions are free to visit, and you won't want to leave. It's a wonderful place for hermits to settle down. It's OK. It's close to Wenzhou. It's suitable for weekend trips.

The Nanxi River is amazing, like the place in ancient costume dramas where people can fish and grill fish while fleeing from persecution. I also saw a family driving an SUV out and having a picnic under the shade of trees by the river. It was amazing. The loggers for the bamboo rafting were pulling the rafts upstream, which was very hard work, so sometimes you really shouldn't worry too much. The sun is very strong, and they charge 20 or 30 yuan for umbrellas. If you don't need them, you can fold them up. But it was really hot, so it was better to cover up. In the end, the umbrella blew away, so pitiful...

The place I had been longing to visit was finally realized and it was worth the trip.

Nanxi River is the largest scenic spot in our park, which is mainly characterized by mountains, rivers and rural scenery. You can stay here for three or five days.

The Nanxi River lies north of Wenzhou, within Yongjia County, approximately 26 kilometers south of downtown Wenzhou. To the east lies Yandang Mountain, to the west lies Jinyun Xiandu, and to the north lies Xianju. A road connects the area to Yandang Mountain. Key scenic spots include Yantou (Shizi Rock), Daruoyan (Yongjia Academy, Twelve Peaks, and Baizhang Waterfall), Shiweiyan, and Sihai Mountain. Bamboo rafting and swimming are available in the river during the summer. The Nanxi River, 140 kilometers long and crystal clear, flows from north to south before merging with the Oujiang River and flowing from Wenzhou into the East China Sea. It is a 4A scenic area and, along with Yandang Mountain, a UNESCO World Geopark. Tickets are required for admission. Scenic spots are scattered, making self-driving more convenient. Yongjia County now has high-speed rail service.

Rafting was wonderful and peaceful. However, once you get there, you'll find that there's no public transportation, and illegal taxis are common and expensive. I happened to find a Didi taxi for just over a dozen yuan, which was quite cheap. Some local villagers at the ticket counter will try to trick you, so don't listen to them; go to the ticket window and see for yourself.

The Nanxi River is not like the blooming peony, radiating its opulence and grandeur, beautiful yet proud; nor is it like the daffodils within the stream, aggrieved like young wives, quietly blooming in seclusion, admiring their own beauty. She is like the canna lilies by the water, graceful and delicate, their tender new leaves slenderly veined; their orange-red blossoms, reaching skyward, generous and beautiful, freely blossoming between heaven and earth. Plants have their own nature; why seek to be plucked by beauty? The beauty of the Nanxi River lies in its naturalness, its gracefulness, its storytelling depth, and its confident tranquility. Though it is the season of harvest in autumn, the vitality of spring is still evident everywhere.

This is the Nanxi River we arrived at. Several Lion Rocks are arranged horizontally behind the fishing boats. A bamboo raft with a fishing light in its mouth is carrying a fisherman and cormorants, who are slowly rowing towards us from a distance. The boatman's calls and the photographers arrive before the sun. It is still dark, the fishing lights are just lit, and the whole world is still shrouded in a dreamy blue mist.

In fact, although the scenic spots along the entire Nanxi River are not connected together, you can visit them one by one. There are many minibuses from Oubei Wharf to the villages and towns along the Nanxi River, and the transportation is very convenient. Those who are good at swimming can swim in Shatou Taiping Rock, where the water is very deep. Those who like to play with pebbles and watch the river beach can go near Jiuzhang Bridge. The river beach there is very beautiful, and there are many casual snacks in the pine forest on the shore. Lion Rock in Yantou Town is the center of Nanxi River, mainly for rafting, and you can take a bamboo raft. Yantou Town has preserved many ancient buildings, and Lishui Pedestrian Street is very distinctive. Shiwei Rock is in Hesheng Town.

The water of Nanxi River is clear and the scenery on both sides is beautiful. There are many ways to visit Nanxi River, and bamboo rafting is one of them. It is not yet the beginning of summer, and the air and water temperature are a bit cool, but this does not hinder people's enthusiasm for boating on the river. Early in the morning, you can see bamboo rafts neatly docked on the shore near Lion Rock, with bamboo chairs placed on the rafts.

I've just boarded the long-awaited Nanxi River bamboo raft. The vast river, the serene forest, the distant mountains—rafting on the Nanxi River in late autumn is even more captivating to me. The fallen leaves by the stream add to the autumnal hues, the falling flowers in the forest reflect the passing of time. Even with the cool rain and the falling leaves, the river and the empty forest remain breathtakingly beautiful.

Known as the "Cradle of Chinese Landscape Painting," the Nanxi River is renowned for its unique features: picturesque waters, unique rock formations, numerous waterfalls, ancient villages, and beautiful beaches and forests. It is the only national scenic area in my country known for its idyllic landscapes. However, its beauty is only apparent in exceptional weather.

To be honest, before I went there, I didn't expect that there would be such a majestic river in Zhejiang. The stream is clear, and the rows of small rafts and mountains beside the stream, the stream, the blue sky and the white clouds create a picture of Guilin's landscape.

The most interesting place in Wenzhou is not Yandang Mountain, but Nanxi River.

Provincial Highway 223 from Linkeng to Shiziyan has three sections of beautiful scenery that are under repair, but it is still highly recommended that you drive there.

One of Wenzhou's tourist attractions, I personally feel that the scenery is better than Yandang Mountain. The entire scenic area is very large and consists of many attractions, but most of the attractions are relatively scattered, and some attractions are relatively remote, suitable for self-driving or chartered car.

Nanxi River, I went to this river, the mother river that gave birth to Yongjia County, and chartered a bamboo raft. Because we went there in November, there were relatively few people, and it was already late when we went. The boatman was a villager nearby, and the water was a little urgent. In addition, the temperature had turned cold in November, and the river water was even colder. This is a scenic spot including Lion Rock. I was shivering with cold during the trip. I met many people who stole fish on the way. I really admire their shirtlessness. It was very quiet along the way, and the scenery was very good. The water was turquoise and blue. The only drawback was that it got dark very quickly. Remember, don't listen to the boatman's words and ask him to pay extra money to send you back, because this charter only covers the trip there. I discussed with the boatman about the return trip. It was dark at that time, and the boatman coaxed me into not being able to go back after getting off at the end, and asked me to pay 150. Later, it was really dark, so I bargained for 100 yuan. In fact, there was no need to be afraid. After getting off the boat, there was a car going back to the highway, and the ticket price was only 2 yuan. I blamed myself for being scared to death at the time, hahahaha. I paid for it and learned my lesson. In the future, I will never trust people who ask for money when traveling (this is a later story). I had to do hard labor on the way back because there was a section of water that was very fast and shallow. I couldn't drive the motor and could only use human power. The boatman got off the boat and pushed it, and I had to use the boat to support it. Thinking about the boatman being an old man over 50 years old, it was not easy, so I didn't mind him cheating me. When I got back to the starting point, it was already pitch black. There was no public transportation, and there was no Didi or anything at the time. I had no choice but to walk back. It was quite scary. I walked back for half an hour (to go back to the hotel) and was exhausted. I didn't see Lion Rock because it was dark. It was already dark, and there were two teams of people stranded in the river. I don't know their fate. Remember, if you don't want to experience the return journey, you can get off the boat. There are cars and buses that stop when you wave. There is no need to waste money.

The scenery is amazing. The only downside is that the transportation is inconvenient and there are few cars. I always drive there by myself. The scenery along the road is also very good. Nanxi River is worth a visit.

The Nanxi River has seventy-two bends and thirty-six rapids.

They were all first built in the Western Jin Dynasty and rebuilt in the Ming Dynasty.

We originally planned to go to Yandang Mountain, but we didn't expect the Nanxi scenic spot to give us an unexpected surprise.

We went to Longwan Lake on the Nanxi River, which had beautiful scenery. It took over two hours, stopping and starting along the way. We came across a waterfall, and standing beneath it, the water splashed on our faces, creating a gentle breeze that caressed our faces. There was also a glass plank road with a mountain view below. As long as we didn't look down, it wasn't scary.

The Nanxi River stretches like a beautiful jade belt amidst the mountains of southern Zhejiang, emerald green in summer and azure blue in spring and autumn. Compared to more popular scenic spots, it's less well-known, preserving much of its original charm. The Nanxi River Scenic Area should more accurately be called the Nanxi River Basin Scenic Area, encompassing nearly the entire Yongjia County area. If you think you've experienced the Nanxi River just by visiting the area near Lion Rock, you're mistaken. The Nanxi River's scenic spots are scattered, each offering a unique experience. Enjoy the emerald green waters and white beaches, and rafting along the river, particularly at Lion Rock, Taiping Rock, and Qinglong Lake. Explore the scenic landscapes at Longwantan, Shiwei Rock, Yaxiaku, Daruoyan, and Twelve Peaks. Explore the culture and architecture of ancient villages like Linkeng, Furong, and Daitou. Explore the terraced fields of Mingao and trek to the source and Sihai Mountain for a mountain trek. Given the scattered nature of the attractions and the lack of public transportation, self-driving is the best option.

I have been to Nanxi River three times and I still like the scenery along the river.

Because it is an off-road, there are no public services. Generally speaking, there is not much development and it is well preserved.

There's a farmhouse in Zhoukengkou where you can camp. They have some basic shelters. A tent on the ground costs 10 yuan, and a covered concrete area costs 30 yuan. Once the table is removed, it's full with about three tables. Backpacking and river tracing add a bit of a challenge. There's no internet in the mountains, but you can still see the stars, chat over a fire, and reconnect with the simpler life. It took just two days to get from Yanlong Village to Zhoukengkou and then to Luo'an Village. It was fantastic.

The scenery along the way was beautiful on the minibus, but the water level was low when we arrived, and there were exposed rocks everywhere in the stream. It would have been better if the water level had risen a little. There were few people on the streets along the way.

It's a great place to take photos. I strongly recommend going there early in the morning. You won't be able to take pictures of the fishing lights at night. However, the locals are not very nice and will ask for money if you take photos, threatening to smash your camera.

Because I drove to Nanxi River on a whim on the last day from Yandang Mountain, the mountain road driving along the way was absolutely exciting.

When I went there, it was not very developed yet, there were not many people, and the environment was quite good.

The water is very clear and a little sweet.

The only flaw in the lush green landscape is the people soliciting business on the street.

The Nanxi River is the only national scenic area in my country known for its idyllic landscapes. Nearly every scenic spot has mountains and water, which makes up for the lack of water in Yandang Mountain. In the summer, you can enjoy the cool water, and if you're tired, find a shady rock to sit on.
