Known as the "No. 1 Stone in the World," Pantuo Stone is a major wonder of Mount Putuo and considered the most sacred of its stones. Legend has it that this is where the Bodhisattva Guanyin preached. Pantuo Stone is composed of two massive boulders stacked one on top of the other, the gap between them narrow as a thread, seemingly imperilled, yet as stable as a rock, unshaken for eternity. The three characters "Pantuo Stone" were inscribed by Hou Jigao, a renowned Ming Dynasty general who fought against Japanese invaders. The character "舟" (boat) in the character "槃" (Pan) is missing a dot, and it's said that Sun Yat-sen also inscribed the words "Diamond Gem" (Vajra Gem) on the stone for balance.
Since the Tang Dynasty, Pantuo Rock has been revered by believers as the place where the Bodhisattva Guanyin preached. Generations of people have flocked here from far and wide, offering incense and worship. At dusk, when the setting sun reflects on the rock, Pantuo Rock looks like a gem embedded in the clouds, emitting a breathtaking glow. "Pantuo Sunset" is one of the twelve scenic spots in Putuo.

Putuo Mountain's Pantuo Rocks are a true natural wonder! Two massive boulders stacked in mid-air, the upper rock resembling a suspended pot, while the lower rock supports the rock for millennia, a true geological wonder. Legend has it that this was the platform where Guanyin Bodhisattva preached. The inscription "Pantuo" in red on the rock was inscribed by a renowned Ming Dynasty general who fought against the Japanese invaders. Standing before the rock, one is transported by the Zen spirit of a Buddhist kingdom at sea and sky. The view is exceptional, overlooking the vast expanse of the Lotus Ocean to the west and the mist-shrouded Meichen Mountain to the east. Visiting early in the morning is recommended, as the morning light filters through the cracks between the rocks to create a breathtaking spectacle. Monks often perform morning prayers here, where the Buddhist chanting blends with the sound of the tide, creating a naturally Zen-like atmosphere. Nearby, visit the Heart-shaped Rock and the Two Tortoises Listening to the Dharma Rock.
Pantuo Stone, located in the Xitian Scenic Area, is one of the landmarks of Putuo Mountain. Composed of two stones stacked one on top of the other, it appears unstable, yet remains as stable as a rock. Inscribed on the stone are the three characters "Pantuo Stone" (Pantuo Stone) by Hou Jigao, a Ming Dynasty general who fought against Japanese invaders. The character "石" (stone) has an extra dot—according to legend, when Hou wrote the inscription, the stone swayed from side to side, appearing to be on the verge of collapse. The addition of the extra dot stabilized it.
2010.10.5 Putuo Mountain, the most important attraction at Xitian Pier, is spectacular;
One of the three must-see rocks in Putuo Mountain, this rock is very tall and large, and it is amazing that it remains standing firmly.
A famous check-in spot. Before I went there, I thought it was on the top of the mountain, but I didn't expect it to be on a small open space.
It's actually quite hard to find. Even after I found it, the photos I took didn't look very good. Is it because I'm not very good at it? Haha
A scenic spot on the must-pass route. Legend has it that touching it will bring good luck.
It seems that every scenic spot has similar representative landscapes, such as the Flying Stone.
According to legend, this is where the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara preached and is known as the "No. 1 Stone in the World."
30 years ago, people could stand beside Pantuo Rock and take photos, but now it is no longer allowed.
A scenic spot in Putuo Mountain, you can come and see it
Many people were taking photos. The tour guide first introduced this, then the lying cow, and then offered incense. I was just taking advantage of the tour guide...
On an open mountaintop platform, there is a pair of seemingly shaky but actually solid boulders - Pantuo Stones. According to legend, this is where the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara preached.
Located in the Xitian Scenic Area, it is a good place to go in the evening at sunset, and the sunset over Pantuo is very beautiful.
One of the symbols of Putuo Mountain, you must take a photo here, hehe
On the platform at the top of the mountain, you can see the huge rock, Pantuo Stone, which seems to be crumbling but is actually as solid as a rock. According to legend, this is where the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara preached.
There's also a buttocks print on it, which is said to be a sacred relic left by Jin Dizang while he was meditating on this rock before entering Jiuhua Mountain. Later generations called this "meditation stone" the "Pantuo Stone." Today, there's a cliff inscription on the rock wall that reads "Jin Dizang's First Meditation Place."
This is also a very famous scenic spot in Putuo Mountain, where you can pay your respects devoutly.

Every time I come here, my heart is particularly peaceful. If I have the time and conditions, I will definitely stay in Putuo Mountain for a month.

The attractions I pass by every time,,,,,,,
- -It's just a stone. I went there to take some pictures. Haha
Not far to the west of Meifu Temple on Meiling Peak in Putuo Mountain, on an open mountaintop platform, there is a pair of huge rocks that seem to be shaky but are actually as solid as a rock - the Pantuo Stones. According to legend, this is the place where the Bodhisattva Guanyin preached.
Pantuo Stone is probably the most famous one! The stone wall next to it is very effective in praying for marriage.
It is just a stone on the roadside, but it is a stone in the Buddhist kingdom after all, so it has a special charm.
Legend has it that this is the place where Master Guanyin preached.

This was our graduation trip. Looking back, I feel a lot of emotion.
Now that the other sisters are mothers, I am still enjoying my own world.
A must-see attraction in Putuo Mountain, worth visiting...
There is a little gap in the middle of the stone, which is quite unique.
Located in Xitian Scenic Area, it is known as "the best stone in the world".

I went there when I was very young, so my impression of it is a bit vague, but I did take some photos there.
Pantuo Stone, located within the Xitian Scenic Area, is one of the scenic area's highlights. Located between the Two Tortoises Listening to the Dharma Stone and the Dharma Platform, this unique stone is truly remarkable. Why is it so? It appears to be two stones stacked together, seemingly suspended in mid-air. The upper stone, with a volume of over 40 cubic meters, is only 10 centimeters in contact with the lower stone, creating the illusion of being suspended in mid-air and about to fall. This is a major wonder of Putuo Mountain and the most sacred of its stones. Legend has it that when Guanyin Bodhisattva established her monastery, Putuo Mountain was a floating, drifting mountain. To ensure a safe path for believers seeking the Dharma, Guanyin Bodhisattva brought the stubborn stone left over from Nuwa's repair of the sky and placed it there, where she preached. From then on, Putuo Mountain was anchored in the South China Sea, never to move. Therefore, Pantuo Stone is considered Putuo Mountain's guardian stone. Others say that at midnight on Lunar New Year's Day, the upper stone will float, with a thin thread-like gap between them. However, it's unlikely anyone would be on the mountain late at night on Lunar New Year's Day to see if it would float, so this remains a legend. The front of the stone bears the inscription "Pan Tuo Shi," inscribed by Hou Jigao, a renowned Ming Dynasty general who fought against Japanese invaders. Why is there an extra dot in the middle of "Shi"? One theory is that Guanyin Bodhisattva placed this dot during a duel with the Dragon King. Another says that when General Hou was writing the inscription, the stone swayed from side to side, threatening to fall. So, he added a dot to the character "Shi," thus firmly securing the Pan Tuo Shi. I prefer the third theory: To ensure balance among the three characters, Hou Jigao undercut the dot on "Pan" and added it to "Shi." The inscription "Diamond Gem" on the back is attributed to Sun Yat-sen. There are also various other inscriptions, too numerous to list here.
When I was a kid I could climb up onto the rocks to take photos, but now it seems I can’t do that anymore.
There's a shop nearby that sells Pixiu carvings. They have two large Pixiu statues on display, which you can touch to attract wealth. Men should touch the left one, women the right. But don't touch the buttocks. Pixiu don't have an anus, so they only let in and not out. Touching them will supposedly suck your wealth away.
We went there near sunset, and the afterglow of the setting sun sprinkled on the rocks, which was very beautiful.
Very good. A very sacred place. The great Guanyin Bodhisattva
We were almost at the top of the mountain, and we could see the mountain below. We could also see the naval base, but there was a sign saying not to use it as a background, so we didn't post a photo of that.

The former landmark has now been completely replaced by the statue of Guanyin of the Nanhai Sea. I wonder how it can be restored to its former glory.

There are many flying rocks all over the country. This one is just average. An elderly person can’t climb it, so I climbed up and took a look at it and then went down.
It was quite fascinating to listen to the guide's explanation. The inscription on it is quite nice. It is vigorous and powerful, and has a great feeling.
The world's number one stone is indeed well-deserved and worth a visit~
It is a Buddhist tourist attraction in itself, but because I studied geography, I gained a lot from observing and analyzing the local landscape from a geographical perspective.
I don't have much feeling about this attraction. There is a building under renovation and reconstruction next to it.
The most famous stone in Zhoushan, awesome, awesome, awesome!
Legend has it that this is where the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara preached. It's also said that Jiuhua, a monk from the Golden Ksitigarbha, once meditated on this rock, leaving behind a sacred mark. Later generations called this "meditation stone" the "Pantuo Stone." The stone bears the inscription "Pantuo Stone," which is said to have been written by General Hou Jigao, who fought against Japanese invaders during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. Curiously, the character "石" (Stone) has an extra dot. Legend has it that when General Hou wrote the inscription, the stone swayed from side to side, threatening to fall. So, he added the dot, securing the Pantuo Stone firmly in place.
Putuo's attractions are full of magical places.
A scenic spot on the way up to Putuo Mountain. It is said that Guanyin Bodhisattva preached here. It is worth a visit.
As a landmark attraction in Putuo Mountain, where else should you go if not here?
It seems that there is a word written wrong. The stone is a good place to take pictures.
Pantuo Stone is located at the highest point in the Xitian Scenic Area of Putuo Mountain. It is a huge boulder sitting on another stone with the three words "Pantuo Stone" engraved on it. It looks quite spectacular and many people come here to take photos.
Great! What a masterpiece of nature! Very unique!
A must-see attraction on the way to the West Heaven, the large rocks are uniquely shaped and naturally formed.
It's printed on the ticket. Nothing special about it.
Pantuo Rock is at the highest point of Putuo Mountain. Honestly, Putuo Mountain is so short... Getting up is easy. The rock looks shaky and could easily fall, but the tour guide said even a force 17 typhoon couldn't move it! It's a great place for photos. The crowds aren't crowded, so Pantuo Rock can be photographed intact. Climbing the rock is prohibited; it's fenced off, so you can only move around underneath. The view from below is quite nice!
It must be a tourist attraction, because the tourists were busy taking pictures, so I couldn't take a panoramic photo. As a result, we found an alternative way to go to the side and back where no one visited, and enjoyed the surrounding scenery and the sunset that was fighting against the darkness and trying to show its last glory.
Pantuo Stone looks shaky and dangerous, but it is as solid as a rock and can withstand wind and waves, so the name Pantuo Stone is very suitable for it.
The scenery is good, it is worth a visit, but there are more people on holidays
It takes some skill to get up there, so be careful. I used to feel it was easier to get up there when I was younger, so what's going on?
Behind the Pantuo Rock, there's a stone statue of Guanyin on top, which you should also worship. The statue outside doesn't have a spot to take advantage of the light, so you'll need to go into the adjacent courtyard to get some good light. It's best to bring a lighter, especially one that's windproof.
I have personally verified that the contact point is really subtle. I wondered if it would fall off if a typhoon hit. As a result, Chan-hong came after I came back from Putuo Mountain. I don’t know if it fell off! Hahaha
According to legend, this is the holy trace left by Jin Dizang when he entered Jiuhua and meditated on this rock.
The right place, the right person, finding the right one for us is the best, you are the right one for me
There is a temple here that is still under renovation, but I like the scenery here. The sunset at Pantuo is said to be good, but we went there on a cloudy day and didn't see it.
Pantuo Stone is located in Xitian Scenic Area. It is a huge stone and very spectacular.
Pantuo Rock is located in the middle of Xitian Scenic Area. You have to climb a mountain road to see it. The rock is as dangerous as a rolling egg, but it is placed securely on the rock.
You can take pictures there. There are not many people. There are many legends about the stones. The scenery is okay.
There is a stone called Pantuo Stone, which looks like a stone bull. Groups of people rub their bodies against the stone bull, saying that if they rub it wherever it hurts, the pain will go away. They say it sounds so magical that everyone goes to rub it. It's quite interesting, isn't it?
Beautiful place! The sunset is the most beautiful at night! Very good!
The Pantuo Stone is said to be a flying stone. According to the tour guide, there is no contact point between the stone and the ground below, and a string can be passed through it - it's quite magical.
There may not be much memory left of it, but Zhoushan is really a very beautiful city~
There are many similar giant rock attractions in Putuo Mountain, which are great with the background of blue sky or blue sea!
It's a very interesting stone. The bottom is only supported a little bit, but it won't fall down. Climb up to take a photo, push the stone and see if it will fall down.
The stone is said to be very magical. It is not from the earth, but from outer space.
