Fanyin Cave has long been a prominent feature of Putuo Mountain. Opposite Chaoyin Cave to the north, Fanyin Cave and Chaoyin Cave each offer distinct tidal sounds, collectively known as the "Two Caves of Tidal Sound." From Fayu Temple, passing Feisha'ao, and Xianghui Temple, you'll reach Qinggulei Mountain, Putuo's easternmost point. Qinggulei juts into the Putuo Ocean, and presumably due to the frequent crashing waves that shake the cave, resounding day and night like the beating of a drum, it's also known as "Jinggulei." At the southeastern end of Qinggulei Mountain lies a large cave, hewn from the rock, approximately 60 meters high and 50 meters deep. Its steep cliffs form a single entrance, commonly known as Fanyin Cave. Among Putuo Mountain's many caves and gullies, Fanyin Cave's grandeur and sheer cliffs stand out.

On October 5, 2010, we changed trains at Baibusha and arrived at Fanyin Cave. The most magical thing about this ancient cave is the echo of the tide in the rocks, which is a very appropriate description;
It is located in the eastern corner of Putuo Mountain. It is quite far by car. If you have time, go there.
It's worth a walk to feel the sea breeze and breathe in the spiritual energy.
It is said that you can see Guanyin Bodhisattva here. I don’t know if it means on the stone wall or in front of the stone wall.
If you come to Zhoushan Putuo Mountain, you must visit it, no doubt about it.
At first I thought that you have to queue up to enter the ancient cave, and it must be very popular. But I didn’t expect that you have to make a donation to charity in order to queue up, ranging from 10 yuan, 20 yuan, and even 100 yuan. I was short of money, so when I arrived at the entrance of the ancient cave, I clasped my hands together and worshiped the Bodhisattva in the cave, "Donations are free." After worshiping, I went outside to take pictures!
Fanyin Cave is quite nice. There's a staircase leading down, about 30 steps in a row. You can also take the path on the left, which has several steps and is quite easy to walk down. If you're visiting Putuo Mountain, you should visit Fanyin Cave. Shancai Cave is also quite easy to walk to, about a 10-minute walk from the starting point. It's a great place for everyone. To get to Shancai Cave, you need to bring two 100-yuan notes and some change to donate. Otherwise, just don't do it. That's what it means to be willing to give.
Take a bus to the Fanyin Cave Scenic Area. Fanyin Cave and Shancai Cave form a loop. After getting off the bus, walk up the large slope to the left of the group history exhibition, first to Shancai Cave and then to Fanyin Cave. Although the distance is the same, the physical exertion is different. This way, the uphill walk is easier and shorter, while the distance from Shancai Cave to Fanyin Cave is mostly downhill. The reverse walk involves more uphill walking and is more tiring.
Fanyin Cave has always been an important scenic spot in Putuo Mountain. Located in the north and south of Chaoyin Cave, Fanyin Cave and Chaoyin Cave each have their own unique sound, and together they are known as the "Two Caves Tide Sounds."
Across from the Fanyin Cave stands a two-story Buddhist shrine, called the "Zhansheng Pavilion," overlooking the sea in front and the cave in the back. Legend has it that this is where the Bodhisattva Guanyin appeared. The best spot is on the ground floor, where, looking out the windows, you can witness the appearance of Guanyin.
The Fanyin Dongzhan Shengge Temple enshrines the Thousand-Armed Guanyin. Besides his clasped hands, the Thousand-Armed Guanyin possesses 40 arms, each with an eye. These 40 arms and eyes represent the "Twenty-Five Existences," representing the 25 forms of karma in Buddhism. 25 times 40 equals the Thousand-Armed and Thousand-Eyed Guanyin, signifying his boundless power to save all sentient beings.
It's worth a visit. There are not many people. The blue and white clouds, temples, pavilions, towers, greenery and beautiful scenery.
It is said that if you look carefully into the cave, you will see the statue of Guanyin, but I may not be pious enough and did not see it.
I didn't want to go to the bottom of Guanyin Temple, the scenery is very beautiful.
The scenery is pretty good, more beautiful than Shancai Cave...
If you don't have enough time, I don't recommend coming here. Most tourists come here to seek wealth in Shancai Cave.
Its steep cliffs form a single entrance, commonly known as Fanyin Cave. Among Putuo Mountain's many caves and gullies, Fanyin Cave's grandeur and sheer cliffs stand out.
The Fanyin Cave Scenic Area is located in the northeast of Putuo Island. You need to take a shuttle bus from Puji Temple to reach it. The Fanyin Cave is divided into two floors. Looking out the window of the lower floor, you can see the naturally formed Guanyin statue in the cave in the distance. It is a rather unique landscape and is recommended to visit.
Fanyin Cave is a place where you can listen to the sound of the sea. It is located in a canyon between two mountains. Looking inside, it looks like the side profile of Guanyin Bodhisattva, hence the name Fanyin Cave. Feel it quietly, listen to the sea, watch the waves, and pray devoutly. Recommended.
Fanyin Cave is located below the Bukenqu Guanyin Temple and is not easy to find.
This temple is worth a visit. Although it is at the back of the island, it is steep and beautiful. I personally think it is a place worth visiting. The pine nut-giving Guanyin is enshrined there. Go and pray!
It is recommended to go, but Fanyin Cave is below the Bukenqu Guanyin Temple, and it is not easy to find, so don’t miss it.
Suitable for leisure travel, fresh air, beautiful environment, I will go there again in the future! Recommended~~~
Every time I come here, my heart is particularly peaceful. If I have the time and conditions, I will definitely stay in Putuo Mountain for a month.
There are buses from Puji Temple directly to Fanyin Pavilion. The temple is built on the seaside and is very magnificent!
A must-see for those who want to have children! The scenery is also very beautiful and unique!
Coming up from Qianbusha, I walked and ran along the trail, encountering cyclists and runners. When I asked a cleaning guy, he said, "Wow, it takes 40 minutes to walk to Fanyin Cave." Actually, it only took me about 20 minutes ╮(╯_╰)╭, but I jogged, of course. Many tourists were accompanied by monks, acting mysteriously and saying things like, "Who introduced them to me?" They were accompanied by fashionable cell phones, colorful bracelets, and beautiful watches. Wow. Today's monks are truly impressive. How can ordinary people like me ever hope to impress the masters? I thought everyone has Buddha nature, and self-cultivation is all that's needed.
This attraction has a strong Buddhist cultural characteristic and is worth visiting!
The scenery of Fanyin Cave is nice. The only thing I want to say is that after visiting the temple above Fanyin Cave, there is another temple below. Behind the temple below is a rocky cliff. According to the master of the local temple, you can sometimes see the statue of Guanyin (probably because the sunlight shines on the Buddha statue and the light is refracted into the rocky cliff). Anyway, I didn’t see it, but friends who have been there can also go and have a look. Maybe you will be lucky enough to see it.
A must-see attraction in Putuo Mountain...
Located southeast of Qinggulei and Chaoyin Caves on Putuo Mountain, Fanyin Cave is a famous cave where Buddhists worship the manifestation of Guanyin Bodhisattva. The entrance to the cave is a sheer cliff, approximately 100 meters high and dark green in color. The two walls, steep and sheer, merge like a door. A stone platform rises several feet in front of the cliff. Beneath the platform curves into the sea, where the surging tide resonates like the roar of a tiger or a dragon, evoking a chill in the listener's heart. This is known as "Fanyin." Devotees seeking to visit Fanyin Cave must first descend a winding stone staircase of approximately 300 steps before reaching the platform, where they can face the cliff and worship the Buddha, praying for his manifestation. Despite the large number of worshippers, the resulting Buddha image is unique to each individual, changing with each encounter and indescribable.
It's a pity that I only visited the temple of Fanyin Cave and did not go down to Fanyin Cave because I didn't do enough homework. I didn't know that I had to go down to Fanyin Cave. I will go there next time. Going up is Shancai Cave.
Haha, this attraction is really good and worth a visit
To listen to the sound, you have to go to Fanyin Cave. It is not recommended to go there for the first time in Putuo Mountain, but you can go there later.
There is no bus directly from the pier to Fanyin Cave. You need to transfer from the pier to Puji Temple, which costs 15 yuan per person.
The Fanyin Cave is a short distance away from the parking lot on the right side facing the army. No entrance fee is required.
First is the main hall, which houses the statue of Guanyin.
Then, you'll wind down the steep stone steps. Be careful during peak season. Arrive at the Guansheng Pavilion, one side facing the sea and the other facing the rocks. Beyond the rocks is where you'll witness the Guanyin's appearance. It's actually a long crack in the seaside rock wall, tens of meters high and several meters wide. Inside lies a stone block, and all you see is a pitch-black mass. However, not everyone can witness the Guanyin's appearance. Only those with a connection to the Buddha and good roots can do so; otherwise, it's likely due to heavy karma. However, each person's vision varies; it's three-tenths based on observation and seven-tenths based on imagination. Silently recite the name of Guanyin Bodhisattva, sincerely worship the Buddha, and wait in silence.
Listening to the sound of the tide, you can think about nothing or think about life
Everyone who comes here must visit the whole place. It is very beautiful. Feel the atmosphere of Buddhism. Coming here makes my heart feel calm.
The island is a pretty good tourist attraction. There is a huge crack in the cliff wall, and the sound of waves crashing against it. Could it be the Buddha's voice?
You can hear the sound of the sea waves, which the ancients probably thought was the sound of Sanskrit. You can also see the Guanyin of the South China Sea. Compared with the large and small temples on Putuo Mountain, this place is quite special.
Take the scenic area bus to Fanyin Cave. Buses here are rare, perhaps because there aren't many tourists, so you might have to wait a while. I personally think this attraction is well worth visiting. Compared to the bustling incense and constant stream of people in the heart of Puji Temple, it's noticeably quieter here, replaced by the gentle sound of the waves. This is the best place on the island to hear the sound of the waves. Coming here, facing the sea, your mood will instantly lift, and all your worries will vanish. Don't forget to visit Fanyin Cave as well. Legend has it that this is where Guanyin Bodhisattva appeared and preached. It's a magical and efficacious place. If you want to listen to the waves and watch the sea, this is the place to go.
Fanyin Cave is also called Chaoyin Cave. It is the place where the sound of waves hitting the rock cave is heard. According to legend, this is where Guanyin Bodhisattva appeared to preach to a person who burned his finger to sacrifice himself.
Walking over from Shancai Cave, part of it was under restoration. Thanks to the volunteers for their kind reminder, I heard the melodious Buddhist chanting on the cliff!
It is said that there are Buddha statues on the rock wall. It depends on your fate to see them. Similarly, the sound of the tide is so pleasant and crisp.
The staff are almost invisible, but there are not many tourists either. You can sit here and enjoy the sea breeze and the sea view.
There's a statue of the Goddess of Childbirth in Fanyin Cave. It's quite remote, so not many people go there. I don't know what it felt like, but it was like I had really seen the Bodhisattva. I felt very peaceful inside, and I also felt like crying.
I've always thought Fanyin Cave was the most beautiful and spiritual sight on Putuo Mountain. Unfortunately, the minibuses weren't going there. I had to take the cable car back to Fayu Temple Station and then transfer to another bus to reach Fanyin Cave. It was packed with tourists, and after another transfer, it took an hour to finally reach Fanyin Cave.
Deep in the Fanyin Cave, there is a horizontal stone. Gazing into the deep valley below the stone, people with discerning eyes can see the shape of an animal. It is said that that is your previous life. The many allusions here are really interesting.
Fanyin Cave is a great place to listen to the tide and watch the sea, enjoying the beautiful scenery where the sea and sky meet.
Fanyin Cave is located on one side, facing the mountain and the other side, which is a really good place. The sea water is very turbid near the shore, but it is still clear blue in the distance. From a distance, there is a clear boundary between the water and the sky. I hope everyone can protect the environment~~~
It was my first time seeing such a scene, and I was a little shocked. A dozen believers were chanting towards the Fanyin Cave, and other Buddhist friends kept joining in. The chanting lasted for about half an hour. Some Buddhist friends said they saw the outline of Guanyin.
After arriving at Fanyin Cave, I first knelt in front of the main hall. The words "Fanyin Loud and Clear" are inscribed on the door. Then, facing the sea, I saw a pavilion at my feet. I walked down the stone steps to a pavilion suspended midway up the mountain. This pavilion is called the "Zhansheng Pavilion." If you have a connection with the Bodhisattva, you can see the Bodhisattva across the valley from this pavilion. The pavilion has two floors, and I must climb the stone steps to the bottom floor, where I find a statue of Guanyin, the Goddess of Childbirth.
There is a good artillery company at Fanyin Cave that can provide hot water to visitors. The dried tofu there is also very delicious, and the tea eggs are good and cheap.
After entering the Fanyin Cave scenic spot, you'll see a courtyard with the words "Fanyin Loud and Clear" inscribed on the gate. Note! The Child-Sending Guanyin you're supposed to worship here isn't inside! Instead, it's in front of this gate. Walk down the stone steps to a pavilion suspended midway up the mountain. This pavilion is called the "Zhansheng Pavilion," because if you have a connection with the Bodhisattva, you can see the Bodhisattva across the valley from here. The pavilion has two floors, and you must descend the steps to the bottom floor. Inside, you'll find a statue of the Child-Sending Guanyin, which you absolutely must worship.
Fanyin Cave and Chaoyin Cave to the south are two excellent places to listen to the tides on Putuo Mountain. It's said that Bodhisattvas once appeared here. My guide said that if you have a connection with the Buddha, you can see a statue of Guanyin carved into the rock wall. By the way, on your way to Fanyin Cave, you'll also pass through Shancai Cave. Look down, you'll see the stairs leading to Fanyin Cave. It looks high, but it's a short walk down.
The word "a glimpse" is not enough to express the feeling of wonder at the moment.
I often feel that those seemingly layered popular science descriptions are often exaggerated, but I truly believe in the saying, "The sound of the tide shakes the cave, rumbling day and night." Although time constraints prevented us from entering the cave, we still felt a sense of ethereal wonderland. The sound of the waves was crisp, and even the sea breeze on our faces was chillingly cool.
If you go in August, it will be very cool. If you sit quietly for a while, you will feel very quiet and peaceful.
A great place to listen to the waves, it faces Chaoyin Cave, so of course, good weather is required. Watching the tide, listening to the waves, and paying respects to Guanyin are three major activities!
I prefer a place with a lot of wind and waves. It should be a place with a lot of history and a good view of the sea.
Take a tour bus from the Puji Temple parking lot to the Fanyin Cave parking lot. After getting off, walk a few steps to the Fanyin Cave Nunnery. Fanyin Cave is located at the foot of a nearby staircase. The main hall of the Nunnery is inscribed with the words "Fanyin Loud and Clear," but the statue of the Child-Sending Guanyin is not located here. Instead, it is located below the staircase in the Zhansheng Pavilion, suspended above the Fanyin Cave. If you have a connection with the Bodhisattva, you can see the Bodhisattva across the valley from the Zhansheng Pavilion. The Zhansheng Pavilion has two floors, and you must descend the stairs to the second and lowest level, where you will find a statue of the Child-Sending Guanyin.
Fanyin Cave is a natural cave on the mountainside. People with good fortune can see the true body of Guanyin Bodhisattva, and then a temple was built there to burn incense and worship.
It's not far from Shancai Cave and the bus line is the same.
2014.09 /2021.10 /2022.09 /2023.10
The scenery is beautiful. The seaside rocks are far away and the sea breeze is beautiful.
Fanyin Cave and Shancai Cave are very close to each other and share the same bus station.
After getting off the bus, walk up the mountain road on the right. After about ten minutes, you will reach a cliff near the sea. There is a three-way intersection here. Go down to the right and you will find Fanyin Cave.
Halfway up the mountain, facing the sea, is Zhansheng Pavilion. After entering, go around the back and you'll see a statue of Guanyin, the Goddess of Childbirth. Stairs on both sides lead to the lower level, where another white jade statue of Guanyin is located. Those seeking children should remember to visit and pay their respects.
Fanyin Cave and Chaoyin Cave are opposite to each other, because their tide sound is very unique.
The actual Fanyin Cave is a narrow strip of sky between two steep cliffs, with a stone platform in the middle. The sound of the waves crashing on the shore echoes in the cave, like a roaring wave. If you want to face the Fanyin Cave directly, you must go to the Zhansheng Pavilion.
It is very far away, close to Shancai Cave, and it is said to be very effective.
Fanyin Cave is also a place where you need to climb mountains. We visited the Fanyin Cave, a scenic spot with loud and clear Fanyin sounds.
There were a lot of people, but there were signs of littering and there were many stairs to go down.
Namo Guanyin Bodhisattva! This is the second cave after Chaoyin Cave. It is said that those who are destined to see Guanyin can actually see her. Actually, it doesn't matter. The key is to do more good deeds. For details, please refer to my super travel guide.
The Fanyin Cave is located at the foot of the cliff. You need to walk down to see it. Don't miss this sacred site, it is amazing.
Listen to the sound of Buddhist chants and the sound of the tide, calm down, and cast away your worries. You will gain and hear a lot~
It is a place on Putuo Mountain suitable for listening to the tide and watching the sea.
The attractions in Putuo Mountain are worth visiting and you won’t regret it.
In the northeast of Putuo Scenic Area, you will reach the seaside. It is in the shape of a peninsula with a wide view.
The most fascinating aspect of Fanyin Cave is its profound depths, where the rocks transform into bizarre shapes under the influence of sunlight and tides. Contemplating the Buddha here, each person sees a different Buddha; even the same person's view changes with each viewing, creating a truly bizarre experience. Each person's vision at the Buddha Pavilion is completely different, likely due to their Buddha nature.
I heard someone saw a vision of Guanyin Bodhisattva here. I didn't make it due to time constraints. I must go and worship next time. Amitabha
This is a small path leading to Fanyin Cave.
The temple in front of Fanyin Cave occupies a unique location.
There is the sea in front of us, and we can hear the sound of the rough waves. If the rain stops and the sky clears, we might even see a rainbow in the Fanyin Cave. This is the Fanyin Cave, isn’t it a little disappointing?
By the way, if you have a connection with Buddha, you can see Guanyin Bodhisattva in the Fanyin Cave.
Actually, it was all due to the weather, rain, fog, sunshine, and imagination. Guanyin Bodhisattva appeared.
I hope that we are all destined to be together.
It costs 10 yuan to take a bus to Fayu Temple, and the bus stops at the basketball court at the gate of an artillery unit. Then you can go around the mountain road and take a bus back. The distance is awkward, close by bus but far by foot.
The gray tiles and yellow walls are typical of northern palaces. From a distance, it looks like a quadrangle courtyard. The temple is located in the garden, elegant and unique...
Located on the eastern coast of Putuo Mountain, Fanyin Cave is the island's most Zen-inspired natural wonder. Descending the steep stone steps to the Guanfo Pavilion reveals two cliffs facing each other like a gate. The cave, a hundred meters deep, connects to the sea. When the tide surges in, the roaring sound resonates like the lingering Buddhist chants. Legend has it that this is the place where Guanyin appeared. The Zhansheng Pavilion, built atop the cave, offers panoramic views of the vast azure sea. Light and shadow flicker across the cliffs, creating the illusion of Buddha looming. A stone path beside the cave leads to the tranquil Shancai Cave, where incense burns endlessly. This place, a spiritual blend of sea and sky, is even more ethereal and breathtaking when shrouded in morning mist, making it a perfect place for pilgrims and travelers seeking peace of mind.
