There are two ways to go up the mountain, walking or taking the cable car.

The walking path is next to the Fayu Temple and has very clear signposts. The stone steps all the way up are about 40 minutes if you are fast and less than an hour if you are slow.



Although the stone steps are almost entirely hidden among lush and tall trees, the perceived temperature is naturally a few degrees lower than outside, making it comfortable and pleasant in the summer. However, if you go there in the winter, you need to be careful to add or remove clothing in time while climbing the mountain to prevent sweating and catching a cold.

On October 16, 2016, we climbed the stone steps from the side road of Fayu Temple to Huiji Temple. It took about 40 minutes. Since we had already climbed for over an hour, these 40 minutes were a real test of our concentration.

Huiji Temple is much smaller than Fayu Temple, but it has a large number of believers, and I saw people bowing three times and kneeling once on the road. Many tour groups take the cable car to the top of the mountain and worship together. The scene is so grand that I was squeezed to the side!

Xiangyun Road, a path leading from Huiji Temple to Fayu Temple, stretches approximately one kilometer and has 1,088 stone steps.

The environment is very nice. You can take the cable car up and down Foding Mountain for 70 yuan per person round trip. There are guides on the mountain who can teach you how to worship for 30 yuan. It's important to remember to talk to the guide a few times before finding him to see if you can understand his speaking speed and accent. The environment is excellent.

We had a vegetarian lunch there (cooking starts at 10:30 AM), served in small metal bowls like those you'd find in a school cafeteria. The dish consisted of vermicelli noodles, dried bean curd, broad beans, bok choy, gluten, and a very small amount of enoki mushrooms. It was quite tasty.

If you're taking the cable car both up and down, remember to keep your ticket securely, as it's a round-trip ticket and you'll need to buy a new one if you lose it. 2. I originally wanted to climb the nearly 2,000 steps directly up Foding Mountain from behind Fayu Temple, but considering my parents' stamina, I gave up this option. The climb up from behind Fayu Temple takes about 45 minutes, with 1,087 stone steps and a total distance of about 1 kilometer. 3. You can also take the cable car up the mountain and descend via the Fayu Temple route.

You'll see a stone tablet inscribed with the words "Together Reaching the Other Shore" and the inscription "Buddha on the Top of Foding Mountain" by Mr. Guo. Legend has it that when Guo Moruo visited Huiji Temple, inspired by the name of Foding Mountain, he wrote "Buddha on the Top of Foding Mountain" as a couplet. A local, Mr. Guo, responded with "Clouds Supporting Stones Supporting Clouds." Reciting the couplet from left to right or right to left creates the same artistic conception, a fact that has become a legendary legend. Turn right and descend two flights of stairs to reach the gate of Huiji Temple, where the inscription reads "Huiji Zen Temple." Located on the central terrace of Foding Mountain, the main peak of Putuo Mountain, is Pusading. Commonly known as Fodingshan Temple, also known as Baihuading and Bodhisattvading, it is the third largest temple on the mountain. "Namo Guanshiyin Bodhisattva" is inscribed in large letters on the wall directly in front of the Heavenly King Hall, with ivy covering the top. This temple's layout is unique from others, as it is built into the mountainside, essentially on a horizontal surface. You can even experience a touch of Jiangnan garden style in the backyard!
