Sixi Corridor Bridge Scenic Area

泗溪廊桥风景区

Taishun is a mountainous county in southern Zhejiang Province, bordering Wencheng to the northeast, Jingning to the northwest, and Fujian Province to the south. Covering approximately 1,700 square kilometers, it is known as "nine mountains, half water, and half farmland." The region boasts high mountains and long roads, with lush peaks. There are 179 peaks over a thousand meters high, with an average elevation of over 490 meters. Throughout history, many notable figures and sages have migrated to Taishun, a secluded and secluded paradise, to escape disasters. They forged a local civilization characterized by pastoral rural character and left behind invaluable historical and cultural heritage. The Taishun Covered Bridge is a prominent example of this.
As the name suggests, a "covered bridge" is a bridge with an eave. Historically, Taishun was a place with scattered villages and poor transportation. People could walk more than ten miles without seeing a single person. According to the "transportation planning" of Taishun's ancestors, shelters were built along the main roads (stone-paved roads) at regular intervals. Building eaves on bridges not only protected the wooden bridges from the sun and rain but also served as shelters. Some covered bridges also had rooms for temporary accommodation. The term "covered bridge" was adopted in Taishun only in recent years. On November 12, 1996, China Photography News devoted one-third of its headline page to a photo report by Xiao Yunji titled "Remaining Chapters on Covered Bridges in Southern Zhejiang," marking the first time the term "covered bridge" was used. Since then, central and municipal news organizations, as well as scholars from home and abroad, have flocked to Taishun for interviews, inspections, and research. Taishun's covered bridges, a national treasure, have garnered widespread attention both domestically and internationally.

The Beijian Bridge and Xidong Bridge within the Covered Bridge Cultural Park are known as the "World's Most Beautiful Covered Bridges," boasting exquisite construction and exceptionally well-preserved beauty. They are known as the "Sister Bridges" due to their essentially identical structure and design, both featuring a "centipede"-shaped wooden arch structure. In fact, the two bridges were built by a master and his apprentice. The master built the Beijian Bridge, while the apprentice constructed the Xidong Bridge, leading to their nicknames as the "Master and Apprentice Bridges." The Beijian Bridges seamlessly connect to the surrounding residential buildings, creating a beautiful scene with the two ancient trees, stepping stones, and stream at the bridgehead.

Sixi Covered Bridge

The Sixi Sisters Bridge was built in the 13th year of Emperor Kangxi's reign in the Qing Dynasty and is known as the world's longest

The beautiful covered bridge makes you feel like you have returned to ancient times.

It is so simple and quaint. I am impressed by the ancient people's superb bridge-building technology.

The bridge is made of wood and has no nails. There is an attic on the bridge.

There are two higher peaks next to it, and the covered bridge is more beautiful against the backdrop of the peaks.

It looks beautiful and elegant.

By Playing around |

When you go to Taishun to see the covered bridges, you should first come to the Sixi Covered Bridge Scenic Area, where there are two covered bridges, Beijian Bridge and Xidong Bridge, which are not far apart and can be visited together.

There are fifteen national protected covered bridges in Taishun, which is definitely too much to see in one day. You can choose to stay in the nearby Sixi Town.

The Sixi Corridor Bridge Scenic Area is a representative example of Taishun's Corridor Bridges. The main bridges in the Sixi Corridor Bridge Scenic Area include the Xidong Bridge and the Beijian Bridge, along with a variety of other bridges in the surrounding area. The Sister Bridges within Sixi Town blend seamlessly into the surrounding area, creating a beautiful backdrop. The bridges' striking colors create a lasting impression.

Sixi Corridor Bridge Scenic Area: Ancient bridges span the emerald waters, a perfect display of wooden structural artistry. Strolling across the bridges amidst verdant mountains and clear waters feels like traveling through time. Each bridge carries a story, and the tranquility reveals the gentle passage of time, a truly refreshing experience.

The Sixi sister bridges, Beijian Bridge and Xidong Bridge, are the culmination of China's covered bridges.

By Shanshan comes |

If you have the chance, you must visit it in each season to experience different beautiful scenery.

By hellenpeng |

Walking back, the village lights were already lit. In a pavilion called "Yuxiu Pavilion," several elderly people were chatting and gathering. This is the life of ordinary Chinese people. At night, looking up, the moon over Sishui is particularly bright, and the night breeze brings down the scorching heat.

By Rest assured, little thief |

I went there over a decade ago, back when film photography was still available and admission was free. It was a pure rural setting. The two covered bridges were among the most beautiful in China, painted red, unlike other covered bridges that were mostly natural wood, making them particularly beautiful for photos. I think they charge admission now, and I'm not sure how it's managed.

Sixi Town, Taishun Corridor Bridge Cultural Park. Easy to find, sparsely populated, convenient parking, and a casual and comfortable visit.

Xidong Bridge and Beijian Bridge. Their emerald green bricks and tiles, painted in crimson, are breathtaking. Relaxing in a red teahouse at the bridgehead, with a cup of tea, is a relaxing and relaxing experience.

Taishun Laocuo No. 1 B&B seems to be the best and most expensive accommodation, with a good value for money.

The night view of the covered bridge is great!

In late March and early April, when spring is in full bloom, a drive along Provincial Highway S331 is highly recommended. However, due to time constraints, I was unable to experience the radon hot springs.

Taishun Covered Bridge refers to the well-preserved wooden arch covered bridges from the Tang, Song, Ming and Qing dynasties in Taishun. The Taishun Covered Bridge is unique in the history of bridges in the world for its large number, exquisite craftsmanship, beautiful shape and harmony with the surrounding environment. It is a reproduction of the rainbow bridge structure in "Along the River During the Qingming Festival".

The Taishun covered bridges are like treasures embedded in the mountains, attracting the attention of experts from home and abroad, and also ushering in a boom in Taishun covered bridge tourism.

As of now, there are 46 covered bridges from various periods in Taishun, of which 19 were listed as provincial cultural relics protection units in 2005, and 15 were listed as national key cultural relics protection units in 2008.

The pearl of southern Zhejiang. Due to the inconvenient transportation, there are few foreign tourists in Taishun. The covered bridges and ancient villages are well preserved. It is highly recommended for friends who like quietness, architecture and ancient villages.

By Museums in China |

Covered bridges are scattered across the countryside, so it's best to drive there. They're often found in quiet rural areas. Some are located at the bottom of valleys, requiring a 200-300-meter descent before you can hear the water and see the bridge.

By Three daughters |

Taishun has been a destination I've been eyeing for a while now. For Shanghai residents, it's not a particularly suitable place to drive to. So, I tried every possible mode of transportation: high-speed rail, overnight trains, buses, rural buses, rickshaws, tricycles, and motorized tricycles, but mostly, I just walked.

Fortunately, I was not disappointed. There were various covered bridges from the Ming and Qing Dynasties to the Republic of China, isolated ancient villages, and lush green. I couldn’t see enough of them in a hurry.

Speaking of which, none of the attractions we visited this time required tickets, and except for the Beijian Bridge in Sixi, there were almost no tourists. The mountain roads in southern Zhejiang are winding, and the attractions are small and scattered. There are very few people willing to take the trouble. Fortunately, we were able to appreciate the hidden beauty in late summer.

After returning, a friend asked me if it was suitable for a family trip. I thought about it. Although the covered bridge is a favorite of mine, I hesitated to recommend it. The Taishun area is a typical small town with almost no tourist facilities. Fortunately, its slow development has preserved the scenery in a pristine and intact state. I felt like I was back in my days of traveling on a budget after graduating from college. My two-day food and accommodation were simple, even shabby. I made no special reservations, asked questions as I walked, and went with the flow, concentrating on admiring the bridge. However, I found the greatest peace and joy in my body and mind, and I was extremely grateful.

Taishun has a wealth of covered bridge remains, right at the village entrance, mountain stream, and riverside... It's so beautiful

By lif |

The address is wrong. I will guide you again later. The attraction is probably in the city.

By Swimming fish |

I've only been to Xianju Bridge. The covered bridge is quite unique for those who have never seen it before. There are basically no tourists, as it is unattended. Taishun is all mountainous, and even the county town is on a hillside. Because transportation is inconvenient, prices are actually not cheap.

By Page |

I didn't have the chance to soak in the hot springs, so I drove up the mountain road to see the bridge. The bridge is unique, but it has no flavor.

By Why do we have to meet before we know each other? |

There are many covered bridges in Taishun, which can easily cause visual fatigue. It is suitable for petite romantic girls.

Taishun covered bridges are relatively numerous and representative in the surrounding areas. This time's covered bridge tour was mainly in the Taishun area, and we saw no less than ten covered bridges, which is quite good.

It is recommended to go early in the morning. The covered bridges are in relatively remote places. It is best to have a car. If you don’t have a car, it is recommended to leave early so that you don’t have to worry about accommodation.

When the weather is good, Taishun is a very suitable place for taking pictures. We went to Beijian Bridge in Sixi Town. There is no ticket here, so it is okay to take pictures. There is an old house Bao's Ancestral Hall nearby, which is said to be quite good.

Taishun's covered bridges are most famous for their Sixi Sister Bridges, while Beijian Bridge is known as the "World's Most Beautiful Covered Bridge." Simply search "Taishun Laocuo No. 1" on Baidu Maps to find Beijian Bridge. It's still relatively uncommercialized, which is great, as there's no entrance fee. The bridge looks different from every angle.

Wenzhou's Taishun District is best known for its covered bridges, a fame that has overshadowed the city's natural beauty. "Tracing the source of the Feiyun River, exploring the Sancha Creek, taking in the beauty of Feiyun Lake, and exploring the wonders of Baihe Gorge"—this is a picturesque paradise on earth, a transcendental utopia.

The gorge is known as the "Ten-Mile Gallery," with its overlapping peaks and steep cliffs, and its ever-changing scenery. At the end of the gorge is the famous Baihe Ancient Ferry, over which rises the Baihe Ferry Cable Bridge, the longest pedestrian iron chain bridge in China at 358 meters.

In Taishun, everything is done slowly. Take your time walking across the 358-meter iron chain bridge, take your time taking in the beauty of Baihe Gorge, the "Ten-Mile Corridor," and take your time to complete your chosen "Southern Zhejiang's No. 1 Rafting" adventure.

It feels like the tourism industry is just getting started. The locals are so simple and warm-hearted. The covered bridges are beautiful in all their forms.

It can be said that the Dream of the Covered Bridge has driven the popularity of covered bridge tourism in Taishun. Choose a time when it is drizzling, with the sky blue with mist and the light brown covered bridge, and savor the excitement that the covered bridge brings to you.

By Little baby is not pit |

I have seen many, many things, but it is a pity that the attractions in Taishun are too scattered and the infrastructure is average. The locals are still very hospitable. The covered bridge is worth a visit.

By Wang Haohao |

I've been there three times with different friends. Weekends aren't always crowded with tourists. There are many covered bridges in Taishun, but the most famous and popular are the Sixi Sister Bridges, also known as the Beijian Bridge and the Xidong Bridge. The bridges are all made entirely of wood, and I heard they didn't use a single nail; they're held together by the wood's structure. However, due to their age, they creak when you walk on them. There are large fish in the river below the bridges, which you can admire and feed. Small shops flank the bridges, where local residents sell snacks, toys, and local specialties. A two-hour visit to the covered bridges is enough, so it's basically just a passing attraction on a road trip. You can drive directly to the other side of the river and then walk up the steps to the bridges. There's no entrance fee; it's completely free.

Taishun, a small mountainous county southwest of Wenzhou, is known as "nine mountains, half water, and half farmland." Taishun's covered bridges are a precious historical and cultural heritage. A unique and historical village scene. Don't expect too many supporting entertainment facilities. Sometimes you go to a place just to see a bridge, a tree, or a dilapidated ancient official road.

By Go with the flow |

You can feed the goldfish here. They are also very smart. If someone holds a fishing net on the side, they will not come over to eat. Once the person leaves, they will finish eating all the ones on the side. There is also a puppet show that is rarely seen in normal times. It is very lifelike.

By cicada |

When you go to Taishun to see the covered bridges, remember to visit a few of them and then collect some historical story information, otherwise it will seem very tiring and boring.

By Catch the tail of the wind |

Hidden deep in the mountains, nestled between the landscape and water, and spanning a raging canyon, there are always villages near the bridge, and shrines are built in the middle of the bridge, most of which are still filled with incense, and are places where villagers chat and gather.

A famous cultural heritage, if you come to Wenzhou for tourism, Taishun Bridge is not to be missed

By Leisurely |

Taishun, known as the "Hometown of Ancient Covered Bridges in China," is located southwest of Wenzhou, bordering Fujian Province to the south. Taishun is a mountainous county, most commonly accessed from Wenzhou and Lishui. Located over 150 kilometers from Wenzhou, Taishun boasts over 30 well-preserved wooden arch covered bridges from the Tang, Song, Ming, and Qing dynasties. Their sheer number, exquisite craftsmanship, beautiful form, and harmonious integration with the surrounding environment are truly remarkable in the history of bridges worldwide, recreating the rainbow bridge structure depicted in the painting "Along the River During the Qingming Festival." Each of these covered bridges stands like a treasure nestled among the mountains.

By For Qin |

The treasure of my hometown, support, although it doesn't look amazing from the outside, but from the difficulty of building the bridge and academic point of view is not easy, so it was selected as a world heritage

There are not many tourists, it is very simple, there is no ticket for all attractions, and it has not yet been developed. The covered bridges are relatively scattered and need to be found

By Bodhi Patriarch |

Taishun covered bridges have their own unique characteristics, but they are distributed over a wide area. It would be time-consuming to take public transportation, so it is recommended to drive there.

By zenkin |

The covered bridge is shaped like a rainbow and is also called the Rainbow Bridge. It has eaves or pavilions to provide shelter from wind and rain for passers-by.

Mao Yisheng, who thought the Hongqiao Bridge only existed in the painting Along the River During the Qingming Festival, found the real scene in Taishun.

The stone bridge called "Tiaoyan" in Fenghuang, Hunan is primitive and simple, allowing people to wade through shallow water.

Unfortunately, the covered bridges and anchorage steps are convenient for pedestrians, but not for modern vehicles and horses.

It can only remain as an antique, lonely in the mountains along with Taishun.

By Empty Mountain |

Taishun Covered Bridge is a place that makes you linger and forget. You may not find the poetic feeling of a painted boat on spring water, but there you can still find the picturesque scene of "green trees merge outside the village, green mountains slope outside the city wall." You may also appreciate the Zen and indifference of "the moon rises, startling mountain birds, and occasionally singing in the spring stream," as well as the unique beauty and elegance of the covered bridge.

I like Taishun because I like the covered bridges, and I like the covered bridges because I like the fact that they are hidden in the mountains, gentle but not noisy, elegant but not ostentatious, and silent yet having witnessed all the vicissitudes of life.

By Calm |

Covered bridges were the highlight of our trip. Considering they were scattered, some in remote locations, we planned to visit 12 before departure, intending to see as many as we could. However, we were incredibly lucky and found all 11, with only one, Xianju Bridge, being too tight to visit due to time constraints. We also encountered two unexpected covered bridges—unfortunately, they were new.

As the name suggests, a "covered bridge" is a bridge with an eaves. Historically, Taishun's villages were scattered and transportation was difficult. People could walk for more than ten miles without seeing any other people. According to the "transportation planning" of Taishun's ancestors, shelters were built along the stone-paved roads at regular intervals for people to rest. Building eaves on bridges not only protected the wooden bridges from sun and rain, but also served as shelters. Some covered bridges even had rooms for temporary accommodation.

However, the term "covered bridge" has only been adopted in Taishun in recent years. For centuries, Taishun residents have referred to wooden arched covered bridges as "centipede bridges," though wooden arch bridges don't actually have "centipede legs." Covered bridges served as places for local villagers to rest, communicate, and trade. The evenly spaced stalls on Beijian Bridge, for example, evoke a scene as prosperous as Wenzhou's Wuma Street in its day. A small street of shops forms the bridgehead, with the ground floor used as shops and the second floor as residences, making it the most expensive location. Local elders recounted how puppet shows used to be performed at the Beijian Bridge, with thousands of spectators gathering at the other end. Covered bridges often feature shrines for villagers to worship. Some are located off-site, to the side, or directly across the road from the bridgehead. Worship includes Buddhist deities such as Guanyin, the door gods Shentu and Yulei, Yuchi Gong and Qin Qiong, the righteous Emperor of Heaven, Wenchang Emperor, who brings good luck to scholars, and Zhao Gongming, the God of Wealth, who brings prosperity. There are also figures well-known to the locals, such as Lady Chen Shisi, Ma Xiangu, and King Chungnyeol. Furthermore, miscellaneous gods and demigods, believed to control various aspects of life, are venerated. Sacrifices are performed on the first and fifteenth day of each month, with the most solemn period being the first month of each year. Villagers gather from all directions at the bridge to pray, placing a whole pig's head, two plates of seasonal fruit, and a few sticks of incense, while kowtowing and bowing in prayer.

By Can be carved |

In just a day and a half, we journeyed from reality to dreamland and back again. This tranquil, natural countryside and the timeless sentiment of mountains and rivers will remain in our hearts forever. May the ancient covered bridge continue to display its enduring, captivating charm, forever untouched by the vicissitudes of time.

Taishun's ancestors built roads through mountains and bridges over rivers, adapting to local conditions and constructing various unique bridges. Covered bridges have become a transportation totem that has spanned two thousand years! The reason why covered bridges amaze the world is not only because of their graceful appearance, but also because of their extremely scientific architectural structure. The entire bridge body does not use a single nail, a single tenon, or a single support column. Cattle and horses can pass through, and they are safe even in floods. Taishun covered bridges are mainly distributed in the towns of Sixi, Sankui, Xiaocun, Zhouling, and Luoyang. There are more than 30 large and small covered bridges on the list.

By White cement |

In Taishun, nearly all covered bridges are inextricably linked to temples, some built alongside, others within, large and small. This demonstrates the importance of covered bridges in local culture, as the constant stream of incense has blessed generations of Taishun residents with good weather and safe passages.

Ancient trees always complement the covered bridges. If there is a bridge but no trees, or trees but no bridge, it always feels like something is missing.

By Jiamu |

I drove there with friends during the Spring Festival of 2003. It seems this place isn't very well-known, so it's not very developed for tourism, and there weren't many people. It was great. I wonder how it's doing now, eleven years later.

By Little brat |

There are quite a lot of covered bridges in Zhejiang and Fujian. The covered bridges are quaint. Personally, I think the scenery near the covered bridges is more beautiful than the covered bridges.

By darling |

The most famous one in Taishun is that there are more than 30 well-preserved wooden arch bridges from the Tang, Song, Ming and Qing dynasties. Seeing them makes you marvel at the ingenuity of the ancient people.
