Xitang Ancient Town

西塘古镇

One of the six ancient towns in Jiangnan, a thousand-year-old town with a history of over 100 years, it is also one of the birthplaces of ancient Wuyue culture.

Xitang is famous for its numerous bridges, alleys, corridors, and sheds, with simple folk customs and melodious oars.

Xitang Ancient Town: One of the six ancient towns in the south of the Yangtze River, it is a living thousand-year-old ancient town and has been included in the preliminary list of world historical and cultural heritage. The streets along the river in Xitang are all covered with corridors, with a total length of nearly a thousand meters, so that they are not exposed to rain on rainy days and are not exposed to the sun on sunny days. There are many well-preserved Ming and Qing architectural complexes in the ancient town, which are ancient and simple. In the evening, the setting sun shines obliquely, the fishing boats sing in the evening, the lights are shining, and the aroma of wine is overflowing. The whole water town is like a poem and a painting.

By After being scammed, all I have left is fun |

I went to Xitang again today because it was the Qingming Festival. I thought there wouldn't be so many tourists before I went there. It was beyond my imagination that there were so many people in the town! The Misty Corridor was packed with people.

Ancient towns and villages in China have always puzzled people. People often ask which ancient town and village is fun, which ancient town and village has the most visitors, and which ancient town and village is big? I estimated that in terms of the size of the town and village, the ranking of the number of visitors, the length of the river, the style of the buildings, and the attractions of the ancient monuments, I can talk about the ancient towns and villages I have visited. The first place is Shandong Taierzhuang Ancient Town, the second place is Suzhou Tongli Ancient Town, the third place is Wuxi Nanchan Temple Nanchang Street, the fourth place is Xitang Ancient Town, the fifth place is Suzhou Shantang Street, the sixth place is Wuzhen, and the seventh place is Nanjing Confucius Temple. Some people will ask that places like Shanghai Fangbang Road Yuyuan, Yangzhou Dongguan Street, and Hangzhou Hefang Street are also visited by many people, but these ancient towns are not ranked because they lack rivers!

At the same time, some people will ask which ancient town is the most convenient for outsiders to visit? The first one is Tongli Ancient Town. You can take the No. 4 subway from Guanqian Street Chayuan Station in the center of Suzhou. There are about 10 buses per hour to Tongli! If there is no subway bus, you can rush back to Suzhou City at 10 pm. Tongli’s famous attractions include Jingsi Garden, the first garden in Jiangnan, and Tuisi Garden in the scenic area! The most inconvenient transportation is Zhouzhuang, Nanxun Ancient Town and Jinxi Ancient Town, so there are few people playing, suitable for self-driving tours!

Objectively speaking, the most interesting ancient town is Suzhou Mudu Ancient Town, which is a garden-style ancient town with free admission. There are about 15 buses per hour from Suzhou Leqiao Station to the terminal station on Line 1. If there is no subway, you can rush back to Suzhou City at 10 pm. The attractions that require tickets include Lingyan Mountain, Gusong Garden, Yan Family Garden, Hongyin Mountain House, and the thousand-year-old Mingyue Temple (free of charge). The most famous ancient town in China is Zhouzhuang, where Shen Wanshan, the richest man in Jiangnan, was born in the Ming Dynasty. He was eventually exiled to Yunnan by Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang and died!

As for the prosperity of the ancient town of Xitang, it was the Wang family of Zuiyuan and the Zhu family of Xiyuan that gave rise to the famous Misty Corridor! Misty Corridor is a small street with eaves that runs from west to east along the Yanhe River in Xitang Town to Songzi Laifeng Bridge, and then turns right angles from south to north along the river. It is about 1 kilometer long. It consists of a horizontal lane to the south of the river and two straight lanes to the east of Laifeng Bridge River and some branch lanes, with a total area of more than 1.1 square kilometers. In the past, I came to Xitang to taste barbel and lotus leaf steamed pork. This time, I didn’t eat most of these traditional snacks!

How to get to Xitang? There is a tourist bus from Jiashan High-speed Railway Station to Xitang. There is bus No. 702 from Jiashan Railway Station to Silk Road Station, and then transfer to bus No. 215 or 216 to Xitang. Outsiders cannot find bus No. 210 from Jiashan Railway Station to Xitang. When bus No. 210 stops at the railway station, the lights and license plate lights are turned off! Tourists go to Xitang mainly by taxi. Bus No. 210 runs every half an hour at Weitang Street Station outside the railway station, and generally does not stop to get on the bus to Xitang. The area and length of Xitang are equal to the Zhongyue Temple in Songshan, China! It is 1.3 kilometers long and covers an area of 110,000 square meters. The daily ticket revenue is more than 300 times that of Zhongyue Temple!

Maybe it was my first time to a small town in the south of the Yangtze River, so I had high expectations, so I felt a big gap when I really arrived. When I bought the ticket, no one asked me if I was staying in the scenic area. The ticket for staying in the scenic area was 55, and the single ticket was 100. In the end, I bought the 100 ticket. I didn't know until the inn came to pick me up, but I had already bought it. I have been to Dali and Lijiang, and I have always regarded Xitang as Dali and Lijiang. Unexpectedly, this is the first time I went to a bar full of shills. The bar was full, but we were the only guests, and the others were all shills, which made me feel a chill in my spine. The others sat in the booths with blank expressions, feeling like zombies in American blockbusters. They said there was no minimum consumption, but the cheapest dozen of wine cost 370, not sold separately. The routine was deep and eye-opening. A little girl in the security check could order us around. I really didn't want to ruin my mood. This is the attraction with the biggest psychological gap I have visited in all these years. I will never go to Xitang again in this life. If I go to Wuzhen or Zhouzhuang next time, I hope it will not be like this, otherwise the so-called Jiangnan town really only exists in poetry.

People who grew up in the south of the Yangtze River as children know that the water towns in the south of the Yangtze River were originally like this, with dense river networks and rivers across the alleys from the door. The images of children playing in the river and washing vegetables and clothes on the riverside are still fresh in the minds of people, even in small towns and even small cities. The small rivers have been lying quietly for thousands or hundreds of years, but in just a few decades, most of the rivers have been filled, and the remaining ones have stopped flowing and become smelly. The development of science and technology has given humans unlimited space. Humans have not yet fully understood their own planet, but they have endlessly transformed and plundered nature. Is this right? I hope nature will not punish us.

Xitang Ancient Town is very beautiful

You will know when you see me share it

It has a poetic flavor of small bridges, flowing water and people's homes.

You can't help but be a writer

Chant a poem

But also more commercial

Lots of bars and shops

So it depends on what you want to see.

Pure appreciation words

You can really visit here.

Xitang Ancient Town is a Jiangnan water town with a thousand-year history. When you step into the ancient town, the bluestone road leads you through time and space. The ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties are scattered on both sides, revealing the quiet beauty of the years. Under the misty corridor, you can taste various local delicacies. Take a small boat and float on the blue waves to see the tenderness of the water town. As night falls and the lanterns gradually light up, the ancient town becomes more mysterious and romantic.

Xitang in the mist and rain, with its small bridges and flowing water, is quaint and charming, with lanterns lit at night, like a vivid painting of the south of the Yangtze River.

Xitang, a thousand-year-old town located in Jiashan County, Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, is one of the birthplaces of ancient Wuyue culture and one of the six ancient towns in Jiangnan. Xitang has a flat terrain and dense rivers. There are 9 rivers that meet in the town, dividing the town into 8 blocks. 24 stone bridges connect the five areas of the ancient town into one piece. Most of these ancient bridges are single-hole stone column and wooden beam bridges, which are well preserved to this day. The house lane is another major feature of Xitang. It is divided into street lanes connecting two parallel streets, water lanes that connect to the street in front and the river in the back, and accompanying lanes set up on the side of the hall in the mansion. The 122 lanes are crisscrossed and constructed the overall framework of the ancient town and connected the new and old town areas. The more than 2,000-meter misty corridor is the most unique symbol of Xitang architecture. The corridor shed is equipped with backrest benches on the river side.

I originally wanted to go to Xitang again in early winter, but I was too busy at work and couldn't spare the time. Fortunately, I had been there once this summer. I really love this ancient town of Xitang. The so-called "living thousand-year-old ancient town" is absolutely true.

We came in August, which was the hottest time of the year. It was scorching hot. After completing all the formalities, we entered the scenic area.

We went back to the inn room to rest for a while. Because the weather was too hot, we needed a break. Then we started to visit Xitang.

Xitang Ancient Town is not very big, and you can actually visit it in one day if you stop and walk a bit. But I see some people spend three or four days here, mainly to relax.

Xitang Ancient Town belongs to Jiashan County, Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, and is located at the junction of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai. It has a superior geographical location and convenient transportation, 90 kilometers east of Shanghai, 110 kilometers west of Hangzhou, and 85 kilometers north of Suzhou.

The night view of Xitang is tranquil and gentle, hazy and leisurely, like a light ink painting.

By 張大婷 |

The scenery is pretty good and the fun is good. There are a lot of snacks. It takes almost a day to finish the fun. It is suitable for two days. Stay one night to see the night view and sleep until you wake up naturally the next day to return.

By Wendy |

The night view of Xitang is really beautiful. Compared with Wuzhen, I prefer Xitang. The main street has more people flowing in it. If you walk in the side alleys, it is really quiet and it is a very suitable place for couples to walk.

By Dahaizi |

We arrived at Xitang at 10pm. We were limited to one and a half hours of sightseeing before we went to Tongxiang to check in. The uncles and aunts on the bus complained. We thought we would stay in Xitang, but if not in Xitang, we would stay outside the ancient town. They actually arranged for us to stay in Tongxiang! The journey takes an hour... I really want to curse... They were planning to go to the bar, but they had to leave right after the show. Who can stand it! What a bad tour group!

I think this place has too much commercial atmosphere. It's either a commercial street full of people selling things or a variety of bars. Most of the bars are mainly for dancing... I don't really like this kind of place.

The last person who looks like JJ Lin is making me laugh to death [haha][haha] JJ Lin’s fans please don’t hit me!

I came here once in 2015 and again in 2019. I have visited many ancient towns in recent years, especially those around Jiangsu and Zhejiang. I have almost been to all of them. They are all similar, so there is not much novelty this time. I came here mainly to accompany my friends.

By TeddyX |

I went to Xitang in early April, and I felt like I could come back later. It was still a holiday when I arrived at noon, and there were crowds of people everywhere. After the lights were turned on at night, there were fewer people. I walked around the bar street and went back to the inn to sleep. Xitang in the early morning is most to my liking. The empty streets can finally take pictures. After walking around, there are fragrances from breakfast stalls everywhere. I ate cold noodles, small wontons and Lao Ma steamed pork with rice flour... I ate a lot on the first day, haha, I will take pictures next time and write a travelogue mainly about food and snacks. The inn at the door is more affordable, but I still want to live upstairs next time. Before leaving, I sat in the cultural and creative store for a while and bought puzzle souvenirs. The commercial atmosphere is quite heavy, and various things are not cheap, so if you want to quietly appreciate the charm of the ancient town, you can't miss the beautiful time in the early morning!

By Ruiya |

Today I went to Xitang Ancient Town with a person I like. Because it was Monday, there were not many tourists. It happened that he had a day off today, so I wanted to take him to relax, so we came to Xitang Ancient Town. He doesn't like taking pictures, so I took two pictures before entering the door, and didn't take any pictures at other times. But it doesn't matter, I believe I can use words to express to you my satisfaction and enjoyment of today's trip to Xitang.

Today's weather is great. The drizzle is just right, which sets off the beauty of the Misty Corridor. It's like being in a fairyland. The drizzle lasts from about 11 am to 2 pm, but in Xitang Ancient Town, you can't get wet because there are many corridors and eaves. You can savor the drizzle carefully. In the late afternoon, the sky cleared up, and the air was filled with water vapor. You just need to empty yourself and breathe the most natural and fresh air. It's very comfortable.

I bought a very special Euryale ferox cake in Xitang, which tasted very special. He told me that Euryale ferox is a traditional Chinese medicine, so this Euryale ferox cake sounds very healthy. I was greedy and ate half of it. Uh, so it was not surprising that I got sick of it, but it was really delicious. There are also special tea cigarettes (nicotine-free, friends who want to quit smoking, please take a look, hehe) and fruit wine. I, who don't drink alcohol, tried this fruit wine. It tasted like juice, not much alcohol, sweet, and it is worth taking some back to give to others.

Because the bus back to the city was after 5 o'clock, it was a pity that we didn't enjoy the night view, and he was not feeling well today, so he went back early. But overall it was still a very good trip. ♡♡♡

The drizzle wet the big stone slabs in the streets; the raindrops sprinkled on the river surface, dyeing a picture of the Jiangnan water town. Sitting on the armchair by the river, you can hear the sound of the raindrops. At this time, it is better to close your eyes and experience the charm of ink splashed on the rice paper soaked by water through your hearing. The inner side of the inn on the river is a small alley more than one meter wide. The dripping rain on the eaves on the other side is like music, which is pleasant and relaxing. The ancients had a poem "listening to the wind and rain in the small building all night", and only at this time can you feel it more truly. The breeze gently caresses the willow antlers, and the aroma of lotus leaves and meat wafts from the stoves on the street. The maltose in the old store exudes a sweet taste. Xitang Town is not as noisy as Wuzhen, and there are fewer tourists. Sitting on the bridge head and experiencing this rare quietness is also a kind of enjoyment! The braised snails, stir-fried water chestnut rice, and wontons cooked with old duck in the snack bar let people experience the food style of Xitang. As we walked, it was dark, and we immersed ourselves in the night, leisurely and refreshing. The night light setting of Xitang is different from that of other towns. The outline of the building is rarely lit. If the sky is dark, the shape of the building is not clear enough; but the lights on the river here are clearer, so if you wait until it is sunny, the sky is blue and the lights are red, the light and shadow at this time will be cast on the water, the effect is best.

Xitang in the rain is a mood, and Xitang in the sunny day is another mood. The ancient bridge town under the blue sky and white clouds is unique. After arriving in Xitang, it seems that the pace of time has slowed down, making people feel cheerful and comfortable. The corridors in Xitang are amazing. The corridors that are hundreds of meters long can not only protect against wind and rain, but also reduce the sun, which shows the strong social awareness of the people in Xitang. When the weather is clear, you will have the opportunity to take pictures of the sunset projected into the corridors.

When I went to Xitang, I actually had high expectations for the Jiangnan water town, but after arriving, I found that Wuzhen might be more representative; in general, Xitang is very commercial, and the characteristics are basically covered by commercial shops. What people look forward to most is the sunset in Xitang, the buildings on both sides of the river, and the sunset feels great; there is also a stage, and there is a river between the stage and the viewing area, which is quite intriguing.

Xitang, located in Jiashan County, Zhejiang Province, is one of the birthplaces of ancient Wuyue culture. Because of its long history and the fact that many aboriginals still live there, it is also known as the "ancient town where people have lived for a thousand years". It is relatively large in size among the ancient towns, so it is best to visit on weekdays.

Speaking of ancient towns, I believe many of us will say that they have too much commercial atmosphere. But it is true that a big purpose of developing tourism in many ancient towns is to improve the living conditions of local people. For example, Lijiang Ancient Town and Shuhe Ancient Town have a strong commercial atmosphere.

But Xitang is a good ancient town, relatively large, with its own characteristics, the Ten-mile Corridor is also very good, the drinks and mineral water in the scenic area are cheap, there are many bars and inns, and you should have no problem staying in a hotel at any time. At noon, you can go to a riverside restaurant on Bar Street for dinner. Three people spent 108 yuan. The riverside environment is also good. A friend has been here to experience it. If you think it is suitable, you can go and taste it.

Overall, Xitang is very good!

On the left side of the entrance is the boat dock, and on the right side is the path for pedestrians to walk in. As soon as you enter, you can already feel the gracefulness of the Jiangnan water town.

The boatman rowed the boat quietly, and it was so quiet that there was not even a ripple on the water.

Xitang Ancient Town is not very big, and the tour guide showed us around and that was about it.

I signed up for a one-day tour of Xitang in advance, including a night tour. The ink-and-wash Jiangnan is as good as its reputation. On the way there, the tour guide said that white water fish is very expensive, and she ordered fish for us to eat so that it would be cheaper. So I followed the tour guide to add a meal, and when I got there, I found that it was only 18 yuan per piece... There are many snack bars and small shops in Xitang that you can visit, but there are not many people. There is also a bar street that is quiet during the day and lively at night. The tour guide gave me a bar coupon, but I didn't dare to go. This time I came and went in a hurry. Next time, I must stay in Xitang for one night and go to Wuzhen for two nights. It's not for anything else, but as a Northeasterner, I want to deeply feel the gentleness of Jiangnan in poetry.

As one of the six ancient towns in the south of the Yangtze River, it is a living thousand-year-old ancient town. No tickets are required to enter Xitang at night. You can enter from Sujia Lane or many small lanes. The ancient town is brightly lit and bustling at night. You can have a glass of wine, daydream, and feel the sound of history passing by here.

Very beautiful, suitable for coming here to relax and unwind; you can find a place to stay for one night, the night view is very beautiful

By Autumn Sunshine |

Xitang is such a friendly town, very close to the water. Unlike Wuzhen, where the houses are right next to the water, in Xitang, the road is by the water, and then there are the houses. Walking along the water, with willows and stone benches, it is a great place to relax, as if you can sit on the shore at any time, put your feet in the water and feel its coolness.

What impressed me most was the noisy disco and the bar with a very literary atmosphere. I had never seen such a noisy disco before, which was quite inconsistent with the simple and quiet atmosphere of the town. The people enjoying the cool air by the river really had the leisure of small town residents, which was the fireworks of the small town apart from the commercialization. In fact, the aborigines are an indispensable part of the original ecological town.

The town is beautiful at dusk. After dark, the dense red lanterns hanging on the houses on both sides of the river make the night scene of Xitang soft and gorgeous.

You can just visit the attractions one by one, they are all on the same line

There are many B&Bs in the scenic area. You can check them out in advance. If you are tired, you can take a rest and go to the bar street at night.

Compared with the scenery of Wuzhen, I prefer the scenery of Xitang. The willows are tender and the naughty wind fiddles with the willow branches. Compared with the tickets of the same price in Hongcun, the tickets here are worth it. The public facilities in Hongcun are not well built. Compared with Tongli, I prefer Xitang.

I like Xitang and will come again. Next time I plan to stay here for a night, eat snacks, enjoy the beautiful scenery, take beautiful photos, and go to Jin Bar to feel the crazy atmosphere, although I don’t drink 👻

You have to see the scenery in person to experience it; photos cannot show its beauty.

By Cube Bear |

There are many entrances and exits in the scenic area, which is very different from Wuzhen. Xitang should have two main entrances and exits and countless alley entrances and exits.

According to the guide, after 5pm, you can enter Xitang through the alleys without buying tickets. You still need to buy tickets if you enter from the main entrance of the scenic area. After checking in at the hotel, you enter the scenic area from the Sujia Lane (read Long) entrance.

Just like what is mentioned in the guide, there are N Guan Laotai restaurants, N Longti restaurants (which have the same name), N restaurants selling pork jerky, N restaurants selling the internet-famous steaming ice cream, and N restaurants selling Gorgon fruit cakes.

All attractions can be entered by swiping your ID card. There are a total of 11 attractions, large and small. Starting from any point, walking along the river clockwise or counterclockwise, you can basically cover all the attractions. Except for a few attractions that require walking to the entrance in the alley, the entrance to most of the attractions is on the main road, and each attraction now has a string of red lanterns hanging at the door, which is easy to identify.

The bars in Xitang are really noisy. Even if there is a sign saying "Quiet Bar" on the door, it is useless because the whole bar street is very noisy.

This is my third time back to this thousand-year-old ancient town of Xitang.

The quiet wind blows all over Xitang, the sadness of withered vines, old trees and crows, the remoteness of small bridges, flowing water and people's homes, and the joy of lotus leaves in the fields. In these countless moments, Xitang has transformed into another clean world, which summarizes the outline of Jiangnan. This sentimental Xitang has bred simple and kind people, whether it is the law of life from sunrise to sunset, or the hobbies of reciting poems, writing couplets, playing chess, calligraphy and painting; whether it is the exquisite and beautiful food culture that makes people talk about it, or the ingenious garden art, the unique cultural heritage of the water town is opening a window to the world, and the strong cultural atmosphere is spreading all over the world.

This time I came back with the tightest schedule, but the first time I met a girl, I felt tender in my heart. I stopped my wandering steps for her, secretly took a few photos, and confirmed with my eyes that you are the one I am looking for. It’s a pity that I didn’t ask for contact information. Maybe I hope we can meet you at the same time and place next year.

You need to buy tickets to Xitang Ancient Town. Generally, the owner of the homestay can book tickets. If you enter at 2:00 pm on the first day, you can still use them on the second day. However, if you enter before 8:00 am or after 9:00 pm, you don’t need a ticket because the ticket inspector has gone off duty. We entered at 1:00, and it happened to rain on the second day. There is a Misty Rain Corridor in Xitang. I went in to send postcards and walked around. My shoes were soaked. I didn’t enter the ancient town when I came to Xitang. Now I’m walking around the periphery. It’s not bad. It’s very quiet. There are many entrances to the ancient town, which is very convenient. However, when it comes to small shops, I still like Gulangyu. The night view of Xitang is much more beautiful than that of Gubei Water Town. It’s good to stay in Xitang for one night. Stay overnight and get up in the morning to see how quiet it is.

In the middle of the night, the dim yellow lights of Xitang were lit up, and the whole town seemed very quiet! The four of us played in Xitang Ancient Town for about 4 and a half hours. I personally think that was the most beautiful time in Xitang~~

I have always talked about the Jiangnan Water Town and the Venice of China, so I have been looking forward to it for a long time and finally went there.

It's really a small bridge with flowing water, very beautiful, much bigger than some ancient towns

I just couldn't put this lantern down, so I bought a few.

The night view is also beautiful, although I am a light bulb this time

But I still had a lot of fun playing, and I found that I really like this kind of environment

Sitting in the attic and watching the passers-by, I found that I was not so lonely anymore

By Cycling in the rain |

I have been to some similar places, such as Zhouzhuang, Hongcun, etc. They are all similar, so I just visited them for a visit.

Xitang Ancient Town is the most worthwhile ancient town to visit among the ancient towns around Shanghai. I have brought my parents here before, and this time I plan to have a good time, so I specially stayed overnight. If Xitang during the day is still full of simplicity, then Xitang at night is more and more exciting as the night goes on. Xitang is close to the third parking lot, where meals are the cheapest, and the further you go inside, the more expensive it is. I measure it by the price of fried snails. The bars near the entrance of the scenic area are three yuan, and the ones further inside are eight yuan, and the most expensive is 10 yuan. After dinner, I went to the bar and chose Chujian, which I fell in love with at first sight when I passed by at noon. The set meals there are basically around three hundred yuan, cocktails are 78 yuan, and non-alcoholic cocktails are 88 yuan. I was afraid that the cocktails were too strong, so I chose the non-alcoholic one. There are three singers, and I still like the singing skills of one of the girls. There are two types of bars in the ancient town, one is the kind where you can listen to songs quietly, and the other is the more exciting and noisy bar. I look forward to having fun next time

The scenic area is not particularly large. Tickets bought after 2 pm can be used again the next day. It was already past 4 pm when we went out. It was not very sunny, so the time was just right. After seeing Xitang, I understood why it became a cultural heritage. It was as if time was going back and I was back to ancient times. When I first came in, the houses next to it were relatively new. They should have been built in recent years. You can see that there are still residents living here. "Everyone says that Jiangnan is good." I really realized the meaning of this sentence when I came to Xitang. The boats are neatly arranged on the shore. Tourists with tickets can take a boat trip for 30 yuan per person. We came a little late and did not take a boat. Going further in, you can see the original ancient town, with blue bricks and ancient tiles. Although the houses here are shabby, it is precisely because of this shabbyness that they have a stronger sense of history and the charm of the ancient town.

When I came out after dinner, it was already night. Xitang at this time had changed compared to the daytime. The lights were on and everything became prosperous.

Xitang in the early morning. There are few tourists in the ancient town in the morning, and this tranquility is rare. Although the commercialization here is becoming more and more serious, there are still many places to visit on the street, including delicious food, folk art and a wide range of goods.

Xitang is very small and can be explored in a few hours. It is especially suitable for people from surrounding cities to come and visit in groups of three or five on weekends. It doesn’t matter whether you visit the scenic spots or not. It is very pleasant to stroll along the river, enjoy the breeze and chat with friends.

Xitang Town is located in Jiashan County, Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, at the junction of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai. Its ancient name is Xietang and Pingchuan, and it is 10 kilometers away from Jiashan City. It is a thousand-year-old water town of Wu local culture and one of the six ancient towns in the south of the Yangtze River. The total area of Xitang Town is 83.61 square kilometers, of which the ancient town area is 1.04 square kilometers and the population is nearly 86,000. Xitang is known as a living thousand-year-old town. It has been included in the preliminary list of world historical and cultural heritage, the first batch of historical and cultural towns in China, and a national AAAAA-level scenic spot.

Xitang has a long history and is one of the birthplaces of ancient Wuyue culture. During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, it was the border between Wu and Yue, so it was known as "Wu Root and Yue Corner" and "Yue Corner People". On October 8, 2003, it was listed in the first batch of Chinese historical and cultural towns jointly evaluated by the Ministry of Construction of the People's Republic of China and the State Administration of Cultural Heritage. In 2011, the millennium ancient town of Xitang was included in the preliminary list of world historical and cultural heritage, and was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award for Historical and Cultural Protection by the United Nations.

Xitang is indeed more commercialized. If you don't like commercialization, I suggest you don't go there. But the scenery is still very good, I believe you will definitely like it here. The night view is also very good, but you must find the right time to take pictures~

Xitang is very beautiful. There are few people in the morning, which is suitable for taking photos. There are many people in the morning, especially at night. Eating outside the ancient town is very cheap, and accommodation is not very expensive. The ticket is 100 yuan, and you can book it through the accommodation, which is 65 yuan per ticket. If you buy a ticket in the afternoon, you can continue to visit the next day, but you can only enter 3 times. If you buy a ticket in the morning, you can only enter the scenic spot on the same day.

New Xitang Yueli Ancient Town Travel Guide!

I don't know why I can't find Yueli Ancient Town on the Fengfeng of Jiashan. It is actually a place with more beautiful night scenery than Xitang. I recommend it! The consumption is also low. For example, milk tea is 7-12 yuan, and eating at a pretty good big restaurant is only more than 50 yuan per person! Overall, it is okay. There is a cardboard restaurant, which is a rare buffet restaurant made of cardboard in the country. The buffet is 30 yuan per person! There is also free parking. It is not far from the city and the playing time is 3-4 hours!

Tickets purchased after 2pm on the same day can still be used the next day, which is quite humane. Tickets to the scenic spot are 100 yuan per person. I later found out that it would be cheaper to buy them online. You can also buy them online in advance.

As soon as we entered the gate, we saw a place to take a canopy boat. It seemed that we needed to charter a boat. We saw several people joining a group. We didn't plan to take it, so we didn't ask carefully. However, friends who want to take a boat should still wear sunscreen. Even with an open top, it still feels a bit sunburned.

It takes only a few minutes to walk from the inn to the scenic spot. This is the gate of Xitang. The gate is full of people. This is just the entrance. Tickets are bought and checked inside.

This is where the tickets are checked, and it has the grandeur of an ancient town.

You can see this conspicuous wall as you come in. Xitang, which is nearly a hundred years old, is still as beautiful as ever.

Stay there for a night, the night view is beautiful and the bar is also very unique

The night view of Xitang is quite beautiful, and the shops in the scenic area are open until 11 o'clock.

It was raining all day in Xitang. The tour guide took us to visit some scenic spots, such as Songzi Laifeng Bridge, Shipin Lane, East Street and West Street. Walking on the bluestone road and looking at the quaint houses on both sides, it really has the style of an ancient town. The drizzle added a little charm to the people of Qiantang.

I would like to recommend to everyone that if you have enough time, staying overnight in Xitang is a good choice. The inn is very unique and there are fewer tour groups in the ancient town at night, which must be a different feeling.

By Nine o'clock |

Xitang Ancient Town is still worth a visit, even the strong commercial atmosphere cannot change its beauty. There are no withered vines, old trees, or crows here, but there are small bridges, flowing water, houses, old houses, boats, and green trees, and the charm of Jiangnan is just like this...

There are only 4 round trips from Wuzhen to Xitang Ancient Town every day, and the journey takes an hour. It is not far, so we booked round trip tickets, leaving in the morning and returning to Wuzhen in the afternoon after playing.

It was already 11 o'clock when we arrived at the ancient town. One of the good things about Xitang Ancient Town is that after buying a ticket, you go to the side to record your fingerprint, and then you can go in and out as many times as you want. After going out, you can also scan your fingerprint to come in (valid for the day), which is very convenient.

As soon as you enter, you will see all kinds of snacks and handmade accessories. There are so many of them down the whole street... Hahahaha, I couldn't resist the temptation and bought a small wreath.

I bought a box of cut cantaloupe. The cantaloupe seller said that they are the cheapest in the whole Xitang Ancient Town, and they grow them themselves. I don't know if they grow them themselves, but I believe they are the cheapest in Xitang. I asked a store selling candied haws before, and they said a string is 25 yuan, which is no different from the usual ones. A box of cantaloupe is 3 yuan (I was so busy eating that I forgot to take a picture. It's a big box, sweet).

The midday sun was so hot that I had to hide in the alleys, sit on the steps, eat the melon I just bought, and rest in the cool air.

In order to avoid crowds, I would go to small alleys where there were no people, and also because there was no sunlight in the alleys.

And I found that the more secluded the place, the more suitable it is for taking photos.

There are so many foods here, everything is available (a paradise for foodies).

What's this sugar-coated round? It's just Japanese tofu wrapped in a layer of tofu skin. It cost me 15 yuan. It hurts.

A huge pot of chili sauce, the chilies in it are all chopped by hand by the chef in the store, purely handmade.

The two of them wandered around the ancient town aimlessly. It was unclear whether they had visited the entire town or only half of it. Anyway, they were so tired in the end that they simply walked out.

I didn’t have time during the day, so I just went to see the night view of Xitang, which was very beautiful.

By Hidden in the Linggu Valley |

The sky is gray and it is raining, giving people a very hazy feeling. Even in the same place, different angles will give you different feelings.

The prosperity of last night has passed, and after a deep sleep, a new prosperity is about to begin. Night has fallen. I heard that the night in Xitang is very beautiful, but I still have to go. For the night of Xitang, this will not be the last time.

By Flying guinea pig |

It is free to enter before 8 am and after 5 pm, and Xitang is the most beautiful during these two time periods.

This is my second time to Xitang. This time I went out with my family during the Dragon Boat Festival. Why do I come here to comment? It's not because I have a big opinion on the scenic spot, but because the urban management staff at the main entrance to the town are so immoral. Several urban management staff completely overturned my impression of Xitang. The whole town was directed to drive in. In fact, it is a public road. Tickets must be bought from them, otherwise they will not let you in. We curiously asked, "Isn't this a public road? Can't we go to the hotel?" The urban management replied, "Do you want to get a ticket?" Pull over. The arrogant expression of the urban management at that time was simply indescribable. We don't object to your strict management, but the attitude is really no different from that of a gangster. When we returned to the accommodation, the boss also said that they were no different from bandits and said that it was arranged by their mayor.

Xitang - Inadvertently, you will be intoxicated by Xitang, simple and elegant, quiet and gentle, hazy and leisurely, just like a light ink painting, which inadvertently makes you intoxicated. Whether you want to travel alone, listen to the distant piano in the misty rain, smell the tea in the rain; or want to hold his hand and stroll in the corridor "lean on the building to listen to the wind and rain, and look at the rivers and lakes": Xitang Ancient Town is your best choice. It is a thousand-year-old town that will capture your heart at a glance; if you stay for a night, it will hold your life.

The first time I heard about Xitang Ancient Town,

It is in the song "Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing" by Hou Xian.

I once saw Jay Chou's "Traveler in the End of the World" MV shot in Xitang.

Later, I always wanted to go to this place to have a look.

Until one day I came here.

I finally understood why Hou Xian was able to generate creative inspiration here.

I also understand why Jay Chou's MVs are so poetic.

Maybe my feelings for the ancient town,

It was at that moment that it came about.

The ancient town of Jiangnan in the mist is a different world. Nothing is expensive. The lady boss of the accommodation is very nice. The people in the ancient town are really nice. It costs 30 yuan per person to take a black-sailed boat, which takes about 20 minutes. It is worth it. The swaying time in the boat is another way to experience the customs of Xitang. One afternoon is enough for the entire Xitang Scenic Area. Haishi likes it here. The sake bar and the hi bar are very lively at night and have a variety of choices. I saw a restaurant called Shusheng Xiaochu in other people's guides before. It is located by the river and has a lot of flavor. But when I went in, the sofa was quite modern. The sweet and sour fish was delicious. I ordered a dry pot of tea tree mushrooms. It was just so-so. Two dishes cost 114. The tweet was probably written by the boss himself, hahahaha

Most of the water towns in the south of the Yangtze River are very similar, such as Zhouzhuang, Wuzhen, Tangqi, Xitang, Nanxun, etc. It may be a coincidence that I have not been to other places except Tangqi. I have been to Xitang twice. I don’t know if it is because the transportation is more convenient or it is more famous. Every week when I drive back to Hangzhou from Shanghai on the S32 highway, I will pass by the Xitang exit. But the opportunity to go there again is gone. Although it is very close and not very busy, sometimes life is destined to have only one or two opportunities. If you miss it, it will never come again. It has been 10 years, and Xitang has been sealed in my photos. Maybe this is why it looks different. In a corner of memory, it has always occupied a fixed position.
