Xiamen Botanical Garden, commonly known as the "Wanshi Botanical Garden," is located in Wanshi Mountain in the southeast corner of Xiamen Island, Fujian Province. It is nestled against Wulao Peak, Nanputuo Temple, and Xiamen University, and is adjacent to the Zhongshan Road business district. Established in 1960, it covers 4.93 square kilometers and is the first botanical garden in Fujian Province. It is a key component of the Gulangyu-Wanshi Mountain Scenic Area, integrating botanical, natural, and cultural landscapes.
Xiamen Botanical Garden is one of the first national AAAA-level tourist areas, a provincial, municipal and national science education base, one of the first environmental education bases in Fujian Province and an ecological education base for protecting the mother river.
The botanical garden's main water systems, Zhuixi and Shuimokeng Creek, run from east to west throughout the park. Originating at the northern foot of Wulao Peak, Zhuixi meanders past Ziyun Rock and passes through Baihua Hall before entering Wanshi Lake in the northwest. Wanshi Lake, with a maximum storage capacity of 147,000 cubic meters, primarily fed by mountain torrents during the rainy season, is the largest body of water in Wanshi Mountain.
