Introducing Nostalgia Museum

The Gulangyu Nostalgia Museum officially opened on May 1, 2006. It's housed in a distinctive red brick building at No. 38 Huangyan Road. Formerly the German-owned Qianji Bank, the building holds a rich historical legacy and is the best-preserved red brick building on Gulangyu Island. The Allied Forces flag at the entrance recreates the brutal scenes of China's fall at the hands of the imperialist powers.

Entering the museum, it feels like stepping back in time to Gulangyu a hundred years ago. The museum displays over 2,000 items of Western folk customs and daily necessities from the Gulangyu concession period, attracting numerous visitors from both China and abroad.

The exhibition is divided into nine halls, including the Consulate, the German firm Qianji, the Municipal Council, the restaurant, and the living room. The exhibits are dazzling and breathtaking, and filled with a strong sense of nostalgia. Hong Mingzhang said that apart from the flower arrangement in the vase and the electricity from the old villa, everything else is probably old.

On the first floor of this old villa, in a space of more than 200 square meters, there are more than 100 pieces of vintage furniture, including wardrobes, office cabinets, wine cabinets, fireplaces, dressing tables, bookcases, beds, flower stands, chairs, etc.; there are more than 200 kinds of lamps; and the breath of life in the collection is everywhere, there are refrigerators that do not need to be plugged in, fish tanks, vertical ice cream buckets, juicers, scales, silver tableware, etc., even bathtubs in the bathroom and sofas in the living room.
