Mount Zhongnan, also known as Taiyi Mountain, Difei Mountain, Zhongnan Mountain, Zhounan Mountain, and Nanshan for short, is the birthplace of "Taoist culture", "Buddhist culture", "filial piety culture", "longevity culture", "Zhong Kui culture", and "God of Wealth culture". It is the birthplace of allusions such as "Live as long as Mount Zhongnan" and "Zhongnan shortcut". It is located in the middle section of the Qinling Mountains in Shaanxi Province and is an important geographical landmark in China.

Mount Zhongnan stretches eastward from Yangjiabao, the easternmost point of Lantian County, Xi'an, known for its jade-rich landscape, to the southern ridge of Taibai Mountain, the main peak of the Qinling Mountains, at the westernmost boundary of Zhouzhi County. It lies between longitudes 107°37′–109°49′ east and latitudes 33°41′–34°22′ north, stretching approximately 230 kilometers from east to west, 55 kilometers at its widest point, and 15 kilometers at its narrowest, covering a total area of ​​approximately 4,851 square kilometers. Spanning Lantian County, Chang'an District, Huyi District, and Zhouzhi County, it stretches over 200 kilometers, majestically towering to the south of the ancient city of Chang'an (Xi'an), providing a towering and solid support and a magnificent barrier for the city. It is known as the "Immortal Capital," "Crown of Caves," and "The Most Blessed Land Under Heaven."

Mount Zhongnan is located in the main part where the northern and southern continental plates of China collide and merge. It is the natural dividing line between the north and south of China in terms of geology, geography, ecology, climate, environment and even humanities. It is known as the "Natural Zoo of China" and the "Natural Botanical Garden of Asia". It is characterized by the geological relics of the Qinling Orogenic Belt, Quaternary geological relics, landform relics and ancient human relics.

Shangshan Pond

The Sutra-Preaching Platform has four main halls: the Laozi Shrine, the Doumu Hall, the Jiuku Hall, and the Lingguan Hall. There are two auxiliary halls: the Taibai Hall and the Four Saints Hall. On either side of the mountain gate stand two bell and drum towers, facing each other. In front of the mountain gate, a winding stone staircase leads to the summit. Not far west of the mountain gate lies a stone-built spring pool, known as the Shangshan Pool, containing a stone dragon head that spews water year-round.

Yangtian Pond

On the steep peak south of the Sutra Platform, there is an alchemy furnace in the shape of the Eight Diagrams, which is said to have been used by Laozi to make elixirs.
