Gezao Mountain, also known as Geling, is located southeast of Zhangshu City, Jiangxi Province. A branch of the Wuyi Mountains, it is known as the "Clear River, Green Peaks." Stretching for over 200 miles, it features winding peaks and ridges, ancient bamboos and lush pines, and breathtaking views of the mountains and rivers, a breathtaking natural beauty. Renowned for its Taoist medicine, it is a National AAAA-level scenic spot.
Gezao Mountain was not only renowned for its Taoist medicine, but also for its stunning natural scenery. Surrounded by the Luotuo, Taiji, Yunv, Lingyun, and Dingxian peaks, the center forms the heartland. Most peaks reach elevations of around 500 meters, with Lingyun Peak reaching 802.7 meters. The Heavenly Official bestows blessings upon the Heavenly Official. The Heavenly Official is known as the First-Rank Heavenly Official of the Shangyuan Period, the Purple Star Emperor, and is affiliated with the Jade Purity Realm. Composed of the three energies of blue, yellow, and white, the Heavenly Official presides over all the celestial emperors. On the fifteenth day of each lunar month, he descends to the human world to assess the sins and blessings of mankind, hence the name "Heavenly Official Grants Blessings."
The renowned Taoist Ge Xuan attained enlightenment and cultivated himself here, building the "Woyun Temple" and its altar and stove. He also created the "Nine-Turn Golden Elixir," earning him the title of "the ancestor of Zhangshu medicine." During the Yifeng period of the Tang Dynasty (676-678), the imperial court designated Gezhao Mountain as the 33rd most blessed place in the world. During the Song Dynasty, it reached its peak, becoming one of the three most famous mountains in the world, along with Mount Mao in Jinling (present-day Nanjing) and Mount Longhu in Guangxin (present-day Guixi).
