Founded by the Southern Presbyterian Mission, Tianshui Church is the oldest Christian church in Hangzhou, boasting a 140 -year history. John Leighton Stuart once lived and worked here, and the church possesses a profound cultural heritage and unique historical value.
Tianshui Church is a Chinese-style church with a distinct Jiangnan style. Its exterior walls are whitewashed, its roof is covered with small green tiles, and each gable corner is clad in bricks carved with lily patterns. Its doors and windows feature Western-style spires, creating a refined and elegant fusion of Chinese and Western influences. Behind the church stands a two-story pastor's building and a three-story complex. The new church can accommodate 400 worshippers at a time, and approximately 600 attend regular services .
