The Yunnan Nationalities Museum is located near Dianchi Lake, adjacent to the Yunnan Nationalities Village, and approximately 9 kilometers from downtown Kunming. It houses the most concentrated collection and display of the history and culture of Yunnan's ethnic minorities and is the largest ethnic museum in Southeast Asia. The museum showcases approximately 20,000 exhibits representing the province's 26 ethnic groups, divided into 11 halls across eight themes. The museum is divided into two floors. The first floor houses the "Ethnic Costumes and Crafts," "Ethnic Costume Art," "Ancient Books in Ethnic Scripts," and the "Ethnic Handicraft Shop." The second floor features the "Ethnic Information Center," "Ethnic and Folk Masks," "Folk Roof Tiles," "Traditional Production and Living Techniques," "Ethnic and Folk Art," "Ethnic Musical Instruments," and "Rare Stones and Treasures." The exhibition of ethnic costumes and crafts showcases Bai tie-dye, Miao batik, Dai brocade, and Zhuang brocade, among other weaving techniques.
