
The Wenming Street Historic District encompasses approximately 21 hectares in Panlong District, Kunming, south of Huashan South Road, west of Zhengyi Road, north of Jingxing Street, and east of Wuyi Road. It encompasses six main streets: Wenming Street, Jingxing Street, Guanghua Street, Yongdao Street, Shifu East Street, and Wenmiao Street. It also encompasses 15 lanes: Dongjuandong Alley, Xijuandong Alley, Jixiang Alley, Dayingui Alley, Xiaoyingui Alley, Xingfu Alley, Tongcheng Alley, Zhidao Alley, Xiaozifang Alley, Qiuzong Alley, Guojia Alley, Shuguang Alley, Sizhi Alley, Zhengyi Alley, and Haitiange Alley. This historic district accounts for 3% of the old city's area. This historic district is a living history book and cultural treasure trove, and together with numerous widely distributed historical relics, it constitutes the city's memory.
The history of Wenming Street dates back to the Dali Kingdom era, spanning nearly 900 years. This 900-year history has amassed a rich historical and cultural heritage within the Wenming Street area, imbued with a wealth of information from the past. Its diverse architectural culture, centered around traditional dwellings; its spiritual culture, centered on the spread of Confucianism, the culture of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, and the history of celebrities; its institutional culture, reflecting major historical events such as the fall of the feudal dynasty, the rebirth of the Republic, the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, and the liberation of Kunming; and its folk culture, exemplified by the commercial life of the market, are both unique and rich.

Wenming Street Historical and Cultural District is a well-preserved area in Kunming that showcases traditional Yunnan architecture and local culture. It reflects the city’s historical development, blending commercial, residential, and religious sites from past centuries.
Located in central Kunming, the district is easily accessible by taxi, local buses, or metro. Walking is recommended once nearby to fully explore the streets.
