Introducing Kitakyushu

Kitakyushu City is located at the northernmost tip of Kyushu Island, Japan, and belongs to the economic center of Fukuoka Prefecture. It is the second most populous city in Kyushu, Japan, and the thirteenth largest city in Japan. It was formed in 1960 by the merger of Kokura, Wakamatsu, Yawata, Moji, and Totsuku. It was named "Kitakyushu" because of its geographical location at the northernmost tip of Kyushu.

It is also the first designated city outside of Japan's three major metropolitan areas. Centered around Kitakyushu City, it forms two economic zones: the Kitakyushu Metropolitan Area and the Kitakyushu Industrial Zone. It is one of the largest cities in the Kyushu region. It boasts numerous scenic spots, including the Kanmon Strait, the Kanmon Bridge, and Hiraodai, known for its Thousand Buddha Caves natural monument.

In 1998, Kokura Station was renovated into a multi-purpose station, and new facilities such as the Kitakyushu All-Weather Multi-Purpose Wheel Arena, a multimedia entertainment venue, have opened. Furthermore, Kitakyushu boasts bustling attractions such as the vibrant Dango Market and Torimachi Shokudo Street, as well as the historic and unique Kokura Castle, making it a charming city that blends the past and present.
