Tangqi Ancient Town, located in Yuhang, marks the starting point of the Hangzhou section of the Grand Canal. The canal runs through the town, with quaint old houses on both sides and an ancient bridge connecting the river. Emperor Qianlong visited Tangqi during his trip to the south of the Yangtze River and left behind a precious stone tablet and calligraphy.
There used to be thirty-six bridges and seventy-two alleys here, and it was a well-known "land of fish and rice, a land of flowers and fruits, a home of silk, and a hometown of loquats."
Tangqi is famous for its loquats and traditional pastries. As a major loquat-producing area, Tangqi Baisha loquats are considered premium and a long-standing favorite among Hangzhou residents.
Tangqi has many scenic spots and historical sites, and it is suitable for all seasons.
Tangqi Ancient Town's main attractions include the Guangji Bridge, the Grand Canal Granary Museum, the Imperial Stele Pavilion, and the ancient opera stage. The Guangji Bridge is a must-see, alongside the Gongchen Bridge, one of the famous bridges on the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. The prosperity of the ancient town is inseparable from the Guangji Bridge.
