Introducing Purple Bamboo Forest

The Purple Bamboo Forest is located at the foot of Meitan Ridge in the southeast of Putuo Mountain in Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province. The rocks in the mountains are purple-red, and when cut open, patterns resembling cypress leaves and bamboo leaves can be seen, hence the name Purple Bamboo Stone.

Later generations also planted purple bamboo here. In the second year of the Zhenming reign of the Later Liang Dynasty, a Japanese monk named Hui'e brought a Guanyin statue from Mount Wutai. On his way back home, he encountered a storm and was blocked by the wind. He built the "Bukenqu Guanyin Temple" in the purple bamboo forest. In front of the Guanyin Temple is the Chaoyin Cave.

There is Guangming Pond beside the Purple Bamboo Forest, Guanyin Pavilion to the south, and Luojiashan Island can be seen on the opposite bank.
