Introducing Linwudong

Linwu Cave is located on the east side of Xishan Island, the largest island in Taihu Lake. It is named because the cave is flat like a house and the rocks inside the cave stand like a forest. It ranks ninth among the ten major caves in Taoism and is known as the ninth cave in the world. It is also called "Zuoshen Youxu Heaven".

Linwu Cave has unearthed Taoist artifacts such as a golden dragon, jade slips, and statues from the Tang Dynasty. Ancient poets praised it: "A mountain soars high in the middle of Taihu Lake, and a thousand beauties are hidden deep within Linwu Cave." It is said that this was also the first stop on Xu Xiake's travels.

Inside the cave, there are more caves, each connected to another, deep and winding. The cave has stone chambers, dragon beds, silver rooms, stone bells, stone drums, golden courts, jade pillars, white mushrooms, golden sands, dragon basins, gates across the world, stone swallows, hidden springs, and milk springs. Being in the cave is unpredictable and confusing.

Climate and best time to travel

The cave is warm in winter and cool in summer. Every year from late February to early March, the "Taihu West Mountain Plum Blossom Festival" is held in Linwu Cave. The "Linwu Plum Sea" has become the largest base for plum blossom viewing and plum blossom cultural activities in the country.
