Located in the northeastern part of the Chengdu Plain, the Yunding Mountain Scenic Area boasts towering peaks, steep cliffs reaching into the clouds, seemingly cut by a knife or an axe, and encompassing several miles. Dozens of acres of flat land lie on top, resembling a city wall, hence the name "Shicheng Mountain." Also known as Ziyun Mountain, it was renamed Yunding Mountain in the early Tianbao period of the Tang Dynasty and remains in use today. It was one of the eight major mountain city defense systems of the late Song Dynasty and is the site of a famous fortress built to resist the Yuan Dynasty.

The scenic area includes: Big and Small Yunding Mountain, Hantan Ancient Ferry, the Tuojiang Jintang Small Three Gorges, Jiulongtan, Sanxue Temple, Paotai Mountain, and Tianxing Cave. The mountains are shrouded in dense forests, offering scenic views such as "Sunrise over Yunding," "Sea of ​​Clouds over Misty Mountains," and "Clear Mist over Yunding." The mountaintop's Big Yunding Temple, built during the Northern and Southern Dynasties and named Qingxiu Temple, was renovated during the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty. The mountain also features Tang Dynasty cliff carvings. Small Yunding Mountain, 2.5 kilometers from Big Yunding Mountain, boasts a slender peak adorned with over 110 species of trees, creating a lush greenery and thick shade. The Jintang Small Three Gorges, formed by the Tuojiang River cutting through the Longquan Mountain Range, is 10 kilometers long, with high peaks and deep valleys. The river rushes out of the gorge, creating a magnificent spectacle.
