The scenic area is named after the mountain ranges, canyons, and plains that form the Chinese character "马" (horse) and the ancient town of Yangmaba.

Due to the multiple periods of strong tectonic movements in Longmen Mountain, folds and faults are very developed. After long-term erosion and dissolution, a variety of karst erosion landforms have been formed, including peaks, funnels, multi-level caves, underground rivers, canyons, cliffs and other steep, dangerous and majestic mountain landforms and karst landscapes.
