The night market in Ciping is bustling even more than the daytime. Many restaurants have iron mesh cages outside their doors, housing hedgehogs, pangolins, partridges, pheasants, and other game animals, attracting diners with the promise of wild game. Ciping was liberated in August 1949. In 1950, Ciping, formerly part of Yongxin County, was transferred to the jurisdiction of Suichuan County, becoming Jinggangshan Township. That same year, the Jinggangshan Special District was established in Ciping. In 1959, the provincial Jinggangshan Administration Bureau was established. In 1981, Jinggangshan County was officially established. Since then, Ciping Town has become the political, economic, cultural, and tourist center of Jinggangshan. In December 1995, Ciping was abolished as a town and replaced by a sub-district office. In April 2005, the administrative center of Jinggangshan City officially moved from Ciping Sub-district in the old city district to Hongxing Sub-district at the foot of the mountain (see Jinggangshan New City District).
