There are two Tropic of Cancer monuments in Taiwan, one in Hualien and the other in Shuishang Township, Chiayi County.

The Chiayi Tropic of Cancer Monument was originally built in the 34th year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty. The monument sustained damage during the 1964 Chianan earthquake and was subsequently renovated by the Chiayi Air Force Base to its current appearance. The monument serves only as a geographical marker and lacks other tourist attractions. Lush cypress trees stand in front of the monument, along with a circular compass, where tourists often take photos.

A new memorial building has been constructed next to the old sign, and is planned to be used for scientific displays and exhibitions.
