Introducing Xinchang Ancient Town

Xinchang Ancient Town, located in the south-central Pudong New Area, is approximately 36 kilometers from downtown Shanghai and an eight- minute drive from Disneyland . With a history spanning over 800 years, it was one of the four major towns in the former Nanhui area, once known as " Datuan for gold, Xinchang for silver, Zhoupu for copper, and Huinan for iron . "

Xinchang began producing sea salt during the Song Dynasty. By the early Yuan Dynasty, the Songjiang branch of the Liangzhe Salt Transport Administration was stationed there, and its salt production at the time topped the list of the 27 saltworks in western Zhejiang. Xinchang, named after the relocation of the Xiasha Saltworks to form a new saltworks, is an ancient Jiangnan town that was both built and prospered because of salt.
