Mao Zedong's Former Residence, also known as the "Red Army Building," is located on the hillside to the right of the Central Office Building at the Yangjialing Revolutionary Site. It consists of two parts: Comrade Mao Zedong's Former Residence and the Jianning County Revolutionary Struggle History Exhibition Hall, a German-style building.

The old residence consists of two floors, an upper floor, and a lower floor, housing a conference room and an air-raid shelter. The first room on the lower floor, from the right, was the communication room for the commander-in-chief of the First Red Army; the second room was the adjutant's office. The first room on the left was the operations room of the First Red Army's headquarters; the second room was the residence of Commander-in-Chief Zhu De.

The first room on the right on the second floor was the staff room of the First Red Army General Headquarters; opposite it, a simple, unadorned room, was Comrade Mao Zedong's bedroom. The first room on the left was the quarters for the First Red Army's guards; opposite it was the First Red Army's secretariat. The General Headquarters meeting room, formerly a church, covered an area of ​​approximately 240 square meters.
