Things to do
1st trip to area. Staying at Marriott legends for a week starting 2/15/23. Looking for fun things. We are active, young, seniors. Hiking, biking, beach. Nice value restaurants, but good hole in the wall that is fun with good food/views would be great. Any good day trip destinations? Not a shopper, other than for groceries and liquor..suggestions greatly appreciated!
Panama City and the surrounding Florida Panhandle area offer a variety of activities that are perfect for active visitors who enjoy outdoor adventures, scenic views, and local cuisine. Staying at the Marriott Legends Beach Resort puts you right on the water with easy access to the beach and nearby attractions.
Here are some recommended things to do during your week-long stay:
- Beach Time: Spend time at the resort beach or nearby public beaches. St. Andrews State Park is a must-visit for its beautiful white sand, clear water, and hiking trails. It also offers picnic areas and opportunities for bird watching.
- Hiking and Biking: Explore hiking and biking trails at Deer Point Lake and Conservation Park. The Panama City Beach Conservation Park has several miles of trails suitable for both walking and cycling.
- Water Activities: Rent kayaks, paddleboards, or take a guided eco-tour through the local waterways. Shell Island is a great day trip for snorkeling and seeing dolphins in their natural habitat.
- Fishing: Charter a fishing boat for deep-sea or bay fishing. There are numerous local guides who offer half- or full-day trips that cater to both beginners and experienced anglers.
Food and dining options:
- Local Seafood Restaurants: Try Captain Anderson’s for a classic seafood experience or The Grand Marlin for views of the bay. Both are popular but offer a great value for the quality of food.
- Hole-in-the-Wall Gems: Pineapple Willy’s is fun for a casual dinner with great views of the water. Schooners is another waterfront option with a relaxed atmosphere and excellent seafood.
- Breakfast and Lunch Spots: The Donut Hole is a must for breakfast, known for huge portions and homemade pastries. Another option is Andy’s Flour Power for coffee and light bites before heading out for the day.
Day Trips and Nearby Adventures:
- Seaside and Rosemary Beach: Quaint beach towns with beautiful architecture, walking trails, and great spots for lunch or coffee.
- Grayton Beach State Park: Offers hiking trails, wildlife viewing, and pristine beaches just a short drive from Panama City Beach.
- Pensacola or Destin: If you have a full day to explore, Destin and Pensacola are about 1.5–2 hours away and offer additional beaches, seafood restaurants, and sightseeing opportunities.
- Local Markets: Stop by local markets for fresh produce, snacks, and unique Florida souvenirs.
Tips:
- Consider renting bicycles to explore the beach and nearby towns.
- Check weather for water activities, especially in February, as mornings can be cooler for kayaking or shelling.
- Plan beach visits early in the day for less crowded conditions and better shelling opportunities.
Overall, combining beach relaxation with outdoor adventure and local dining will give you a balanced and memorable trip to the Panama City area.
