visiting the Broad... what else?

Going to The Broad on a Tuesday and want to make the most of our day. Also planning on popping into MOCA, the Last Bookstore, and climbing the Bunker Hill Steps.

1. is there anything else we should include?

2. is the Disney Concert Hall worth heading to even if we don't have tickets to a concert?

3. where would be the smartest place to park?

4. what restaurants (in walking distance) would you recommend?

5. Maccheroni Republic looks great, is it?

ps - I'm from OC but not well-versed about LA. thank you for your help!

If you’re visiting The Broad on a Tuesday, you can definitely make the most of your day with a mix of art, architecture, and nearby attractions. Here are some suggestions to enhance your visit:

1. Other attractions to include:

  • Walt Disney Concert Hall: Even without tickets to a performance, the building is a striking architectural landmark designed by Frank Gehry. You can take a self-guided tour or just explore the exterior and public spaces.
  • Grand Central Market: About a 10–15 minute walk from The Broad, this is a great spot for lunch or a snack with a variety of local and international options.
  • The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA): As you already planned, this is right next to The Broad and worth seeing if you enjoy contemporary art.
  • The Last Bookstore: A must-see for its unique book displays and artistic installations, great for photos and browsing.
  • Bunker Hill Steps: Climbing them is fun, and the surrounding area has interesting public art and viewpoints.
  • OUE Skyspace LA: Nearby, it offers panoramic views of downtown LA and the chance for an exhilarating glass slide experience.

2. Disney Concert Hall: Worth visiting even without a concert. Its exterior is iconic, and there are self-guided tours available most days. You can also explore the lobby and public areas.

3. Parking: The Broad has a parking garage underneath (The Broad Garage) with validated parking options if you plan to visit the museum. Other nearby options include:

  • Pershing Square Garage (slightly further but central to your planned attractions)
  • Street parking is limited and metered, so the garage is usually the easiest option

4. Restaurants within walking distance:

  • Otium: Upscale dining near The Broad, great for lunch or dinner
  • Grand Central Market vendors: Eggslut, Sarita’s Pupuseria, Sticky Rice, etc.
  • Bottega Louie: Italian-inspired with a famous bakery, about a 10-minute walk
  • Maccheroni Republic: Casual Italian with good pasta; generally receives positive reviews for quality and authentic taste

5. Maccheroni Republic: It is considered a solid option for casual Italian food. Portions are generous, and the pasta is fresh, making it a good lunch or dinner stop if you’re in the area.

Overall, your day plan is solid: start with The Broad, check out MOCA, walk the Bunker Hill Steps, grab lunch at Grand Central Market or Maccheroni Republic, then explore Disney Concert Hall and The Last Bookstore. This keeps everything within downtown LA, minimizing walking and driving stress.
