Looking for a nice place to stay in Savannah

Hey everyone, we are traveling to Savannah for 1 night in late December. We are flying out of Hilton head/savannah airport. Is it better to stay in Savannah or Hilton head. We are looking for a nice hotel not break the bank. It would be great if the hotel offered free breakfast and parking but that’s not a deal breaker. I like luxury and my companions like cheap. Looking for in the middle. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For a one-night stay in late December, choosing between Savannah and Hilton Head depends on your priorities for convenience, sightseeing, and overall experience. If your main goal is to enjoy Savannah’s historic charm, walking around the squares, and having dinner in a lively downtown area, staying in Savannah is the best choice. Hilton Head is quieter and more resort-oriented, but it’s about a 45-minute drive from Savannah, which may not be ideal if your flight is from Savannah/Hilton Head Airport the next morning.

Since you’re looking for a balance between luxury and affordability, there are several mid-range hotels in Savannah that provide comfort without breaking the bank. Some also offer perks like free breakfast and parking, though it’s less common in the historic district.

  • Hyatt Regency Savannah – centrally located on the river, comfortable rooms, some views of the water, moderate pricing.
  • Hilton Garden Inn Savannah Historic District – walking distance to squares and River Street, generally good value.
  • Homewood Suites by Hilton Savannah Historic District/Riverfront – suite-style rooms, free breakfast, and some parking options; good for comfort and mid-range budget.
  • Holiday Inn Express Savannah Historic District – typically includes free breakfast, convenient for a short stay.

If you prefer Hilton Head for a more resort-like experience, the options are generally more expensive and quieter. You would likely need to rent a car or arrange transportation to get to Savannah’s downtown for sightseeing.

  • Omni Hilton Head Oceanfront Resort – more luxury-oriented, pricier, resort amenities.
  • Home2 Suites by Hilton Hilton Head – mid-range, comfortable, includes breakfast.

Overall recommendation: For a single night with the chance to enjoy Savannah’s atmosphere, stay in Savannah itself. You’ll save on travel time, can enjoy evening dining and a stroll through the historic district, and still find options that meet both mid-range and slightly upscale preferences.
