Sichuan Airways

Hi everyone, I accidentally put my husband's old passport details on Sichuan Airways flight booking from Chengdu to Hanoi. Does anyone know if its fine to have the new passport at the airport or we have to cancel the tickets and rebook? I've emailed the airline to ask them to update his passport details on our booking but no response.

If you have accidentally entered your husband’s old passport details on a Sichuan Airlines booking, it is generally not safe to assume you can use the new passport at the airport without updating the booking. Airlines are strict about matching passenger details exactly with the passport used for travel, especially for international flights.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Most airlines require that the passport number on the booking matches the one presented at check-in and immigration. Using a different passport can lead to being denied boarding.
  • Contacting the airline directly is the best course of action. If email responses are slow, try calling Sichuan Airlines customer service. Some airlines also offer chat support or social media assistance for urgent issues.
  • Do not cancel and rebook unless instructed by the airline. Updating the passport number on an existing booking is usually simpler and avoids losing your seat or incurring full fare costs.

Steps to take:

  • Call the Sichuan Airlines hotline immediately and explain the situation, providing both the old and new passport details.
  • Ask if they can update the booking to reflect the new passport. Many airlines allow this if done in advance of the flight.
  • If you cannot get confirmation from the airline in time, arrive at the airport earlier than usual and bring both old and new passports. Sometimes the airline staff can verify and make the update on-site, though this is not guaranteed and could be risky.

In summary, do not rely on using the new passport without updating the booking. Contact Sichuan Airlines urgently to update the details, as this is the safest way to avoid issues at check-in and immigration.
