Halloween supper

Hi everyone,

We are coming to Washington on October 31st. We'll have had a packed day visiting the Capitol, Supreme Court, LIbrary of Congress and National Air and Space Museum. We are staying at the Hay-Adams.

I am looking for a restaurant in our area for that night. Are you aware of special events or restaurants with an atmostphere or that do something special for Halloween that we could reserve?

Thank you!

Washington DC offers several fun and memorable dining options for Halloween night, especially around the White House area near the Hay-Adams. While many restaurants maintain their regular menus, some host special Halloween-themed dinners, cocktails, or entertainment.

Since your day will be busy visiting the Capitol, Supreme Court, Library of Congress, and National Air and Space Museum, it’s best to pick a place within walking distance or a short taxi/Uber ride from your hotel to keep the evening relaxed.

Recommended options for Halloween supper:

  • Off the Record at the Hay-Adams: Located in your hotel, this bar/restaurant occasionally features themed cocktails or decorations for Halloween. While it may not be a full costume event, the ambiance is cozy and iconic, perfect for a quieter yet festive night.
  • Iron Gate Restaurant: About a 10-minute walk from your hotel, this Mediterranean-inspired restaurant often decorates for seasonal events. It offers a romantic, atmospheric setting for dinner.
  • Le Diplomate: French bistro experience, around 15 minutes by taxi. They sometimes have special touches for Halloween evenings and provide excellent food and ambiance.
  • Jack Rose Dining Saloon: Whiskey-focused, located a bit further in Adams Morgan or nearby Dupont Circle. Some bars and restaurants around DC host costume-friendly events and Halloween cocktails.

Tips for Halloween night dining in DC:

  • Make reservations well in advance, as Halloween falls on a Thursday in 2025, and popular spots fill quickly.
  • Check restaurant websites or social media a week or two ahead; many post special events, costume parties, or themed menus.
  • If you want full Halloween festivities, consider nearby bars or lounges in Dupont Circle or Georgetown afterward, which often have live music, costume contests, or Halloween décor.
  • Plan for a later dinner if you are coming directly from sightseeing; many restaurants offer seating from 6–9 pm, but some special events may require set times.

Overall, staying close to the Hay-Adams will allow you to enjoy a relaxed dinner while still soaking in some Halloween atmosphere, and a short walk or ride can take you to more festive venues if you want a livelier celebration afterward.
