Tybee Island day trip in February?

Will cafes and shops be open in early February on Tybee Island?

1) We know it's not "beach weather" but want to walk along the beach in the sand and enjoy a fun meal.

2) Will need to use uber or lyft to/from. Is that an issue?

3) Any suggestions for us re: lunch spots, things to do?

Thank you.

Visiting Tybee Island in February can be a peaceful and enjoyable experience, even though it's off-season for many beachgoers. While it’s not beach weather, the island offers plenty to do and see. Here are some tips and suggestions for your day trip:

1) Cafes and Shops: While many businesses on Tybee Island slow down during the winter months, most of the cafes, restaurants, and shops will still be open, especially on weekends. Some popular spots, like the Breakfast Club, The Crab Shack, and Tybee Island Social Club, remain open year-round and offer a cozy atmosphere to enjoy a meal. However, it's a good idea to check specific business hours in advance, as some places may have limited hours during the off-season.

2) Transportation (Uber/Lyft): Using Uber or Lyft on Tybee Island can be a bit tricky since there are fewer drivers on the island compared to larger cities like Savannah. However, it's still possible to get rides, especially if you plan ahead. You may experience longer wait times for a ride, so it’s recommended to arrange your transportation early in the day, or consider contacting a local taxi service if rideshare options are unavailable. For a more reliable experience, you could also rent a bike or a golf cart for getting around the island.

3) Things to Do & Lunch Spots: Even though it's not ideal beach weather, there’s still plenty to do on Tybee Island in February. Here are some recommendations:

  • Walk the Beach: A walk along the beach in the cooler temperatures can be refreshing, and you’ll likely have the beach to yourself, which can make for a more peaceful and scenic experience. It’s a great way to enjoy the natural beauty of the island.
  • Visit the Tybee Island Light Station & Museum: This iconic lighthouse is a must-see on the island. You can explore the lighthouse, climb to the top for views of the island, and learn about Tybee’s history at the museum.
  • Fort Pulaski National Monument: If you enjoy history, Fort Pulaski is a fantastic stop. It’s a well-preserved Civil War-era fort with scenic walking paths and educational exhibits about its history and significance.
  • Lunch Suggestions: For a delicious lunch, consider these options:
    • The Crab Shack - Located on Lazaretto Creek, this restaurant is famous for its low-country boil and seafood dishes. It’s a great spot to sit back, enjoy seafood, and watch the wildlife.
    • Tybee Island Social Club - This laid-back eatery is known for its tasty Southern-style dishes and craft cocktails, making it a great choice for lunch or brunch.
    • The Breakfast Club - A popular spot for breakfast and lunch with an array of delicious options like shrimp and grits, pancakes, and fresh seafood dishes.

Tybee Island offers a relaxing, low-key experience in February. While it’s quieter than during the summer months, there’s still plenty to do and see. Just make sure to plan ahead for transportation, and you’ll have a great time exploring this charming coastal town!
