Family of 3 looking to spend a night in Helen. We would be driving to and from Atlanta. Would love some suggestions on what we should see or where we should stay with the remaining nights.
We would fly in Friday and leave Monday. Maybe spend Saturday night in Helen to check ou the town and Oktoberfest.
Is 1 day/night enough for Helen? If so, would would be some nice spots in between there and Atlanta?
Helen, Georgia is a charming town, especially during the Oktoberfest season, and one night there is certainly enough to enjoy the key sights. However, if you're looking to explore more of the area and have a relaxed trip, I’d suggest extending your stay for an additional night or two in the nearby mountains or other charming towns. Here’s a recommended itinerary for your 3-day trip:
Day 1 - Friday: Arriving in Atlanta
Fly into Atlanta and pick up your rental car. Depending on your arrival time, you might want to spend the afternoon exploring Atlanta's highlights, such as Centennial Olympic Park, the Georgia Aquarium, or the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park. Afterward, head out toward Helen. It’s about a 2-hour drive from Atlanta, so it’s a good idea to get on the road by late afternoon to avoid driving too late.
Day 2 - Saturday: Helen and Oktoberfest
Spend your Saturday in Helen, where you can explore the Bavarian-themed town and enjoy Oktoberfest festivities. Helen is famous for its alpine-inspired architecture, unique shops, and scenic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Day 3 - Sunday: Exploring the Area and Heading Back
If you’re looking for more adventure, you could explore the surrounding areas before heading back to Atlanta on Sunday evening.
Day 4 - Monday: Head Back to Atlanta
On Monday, you can either relax or make a quick stop at some attractions before heading back to Atlanta. If you prefer not to drive straight back, you could consider staying in a nearby town like Blairsville or Dahlonega before returning the car and catching your flight. Blairsville offers some nice hikes and is located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. Dahlonega is a historic town famous for its gold rush history, with plenty of quaint shops and nearby vineyards.
Accommodation Suggestions
With one day in Helen, you’ll get to experience the heart of the town and its Bavarian charm. But adding extra time to explore the surrounding areas will give you a deeper appreciation of the North Georgia mountains and the beauty they offer.
