Casual Place with music NYE (18+)

I need some suggestions for more casual places where we could spend New Year’s Eve with our 18-year-old daughter. Last year we were lucky enough to find a place in Breckenridge that served dinner and had live music and we actually were able to stay until after midnight. Is there anywhere like this in Vail? We don’t necessarily want do one of the fancy parties but want to do something more casual together. Any advice welcome.

Vail on New Year’s Eve definitely skews toward upscale galas and 21+ events, but there ARE a few relaxed, family-friendly, and 18+-appropriate places where you can enjoy dinner, live music, or a lively (but not nightclub-style) atmosphere together. Below are the best casual options that typically welcome all ages or at least 18+ until midnight.

Because NYE events change year to year, the venues below are ones that *historically* host casual music nights, allow younger guests, or have atmospheres suitable for families without requiring a formal party ticket. These are your best bets for a relaxed celebration similar to what you enjoyed in Breckenridge.

Here are some good options to consider:

  • Vail Ale House (West Vail) – One of the most casual and family-friendly bar-restaurants in the valley. They often have live bands or DJs on holiday weekends. Very relaxed, good pub food, and historically allows under-21 guests during dinner hours. Great place to hang out without the “fancy party” vibe.
  • Garfinkel’s (Lionshead Village) – Classic Vail après bar but also family-friendly early in the evening. Sometimes has live music on NYE, always lively, casual, and easygoing. Minors usually allowed with adults during dinner hours, so you could enjoy dinner and music before midnight without upscale pricing or reservations.
  • Vendetta’s (Vail Village) – Very casual, pizza-and-beer kind of place, packed on NYE with a fun atmosphere. No formal event, just a busy, festive vibe. Typically allows families and minors early in the evening. If you want something super down-to-earth, this is one of the most relaxed spots in the village.
  • Bol Vail (Vail Village) – Upscale bowling alley with a lounge atmosphere. They often do NYE packages with food and sometimes a DJ, but it stays family-friendly and is one of the rare places where under-21 guests can comfortably stay all night. Not cheap, but casual, fun, and perfect for an 18-year-old.
  • Cover Rock Bar + Grill (Avon / near Beaver Creek) – A short drive or bus ride away. Very casual spot with frequent live music. They often host NYE bands and are more lax about age restrictions than many Vail Village bars. A good alternative if Vail venues feel too upscale or crowded.

If your priority is specifically live music + casual dinner + ability to stay until after midnight, your strongest options are Vail Ale House and Bol (for guaranteed under-21 access), followed by Garfinkel’s if they do a band that night and maintain their usual family-friendly rules through dinner hours.

Regardless of where you choose, NYE in Vail fills up fast—so if you want dinner seating or bowling lanes, make reservations as soon as possible. If you’re happy to just walk around Vail Village after dinner, you can also catch the festive atmosphere, spontaneous street music, and the midnight countdown without needing a formal event.

Enjoy your New Year’s Eve in Vail—there are definitely casual, family-friendly ways to celebrate without the fancy price tags or over-21 restrictions!
