Which area/road to book for hotel stay?

Can anyone recommend with area to book hotel. In our 13 days itinerary, we have last 2 days free and easy on our own( hotel not included in itinerary) . Looking at having local streets foods, visit local morning market and easy and convenience to public transport.

I saw few Youtubers showing Hetian Jie 2 street full of street vendors, what district is this street located?

For your free-and-easy days in Urumqi, it is best to stay in a central area that is convenient for public transport, close to local food, and near morning markets. The downtown area around the People’s Square and Xinhua Road is very popular among visitors for its convenience and access to attractions.

Recommended areas/roads for hotel stay:

  • Xinhua Road / People’s Square Area: This is the central business district of Urumqi. Plenty of hotels ranging from budget to mid-range and luxury are available here. It is very convenient for taxis, buses, and metro access. You can easily reach markets, restaurants, and shopping streets.
  • Tianchi Street / Heping Road: Close to local eateries, cafés, and shops. A bit quieter but still central and easy to move around.
  • Nanmen Street Area: Known for local snacks and street food. Good for morning market visits and for experiencing Urumqi’s local vibe.

Regarding Hetian Jie 2 street that you saw on YouTube with numerous street vendors, it is located in the Tianshan District of Urumqi. This area is lively with food stalls, local products, and is well-connected by public transport, making it ideal for exploring local life.

Tips:

  • Book a hotel near a metro station or main bus route for easy access to other parts of the city.
  • If street food and morning markets are a priority, staying near Nanmen Street or Hetian Jie 2 street is most convenient.
  • Check for hotels that provide breakfast if you want a quick start to your day before heading to the markets.

Overall, staying in the central districts (People’s Square / Xinhua Road / Tianshan District) will give you the best balance between convenience, access to local food, and public transport for your last 2 days in Urumqi.
