West Street verses Harborside Hotel

I just can’t decide between these two hotels has anyone been to both? We will be visiting early June I’m swaying more towards Harborside for the pools but wondering if outside swimming will be an option that early in the summer.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Choosing between West Street Hotel and Harborside Hotel in Bar Harbor is a tough decision, as both offer great amenities and excellent locations. Here's a breakdown of the key differences to help you decide:

West Street Hotel:

  • Location: West Street Hotel is ideally located right on the waterfront in Bar Harbor, offering beautiful views of the harbor. It’s within walking distance of downtown Bar Harbor, so you can easily stroll to shops, restaurants, and attractions. It’s perfect if you like being right in the heart of the action.
  • Atmosphere: The hotel has a more boutique, intimate feel with a classic coastal vibe. It offers a rooftop bar with panoramic views of the harbor, which is a great spot to unwind in the evening. The atmosphere is quieter compared to Harborside, so it might be a better fit if you’re looking for a more relaxing, low-key stay.
  • Amenities: While there’s no outdoor pool, West Street offers beautiful outdoor spaces and an in-house spa for relaxation. You’ll also have access to a fitness center and the option for a variety of room types with scenic views.
  • Best for: West Street is ideal for those who prioritize a central location, great views, and easy access to downtown. It's also great for couples or anyone looking for a peaceful retreat with a more traditional coastal hotel experience.

Harborside Hotel:

  • Location: Harborside Hotel is located just a bit outside of the main downtown area, but still within easy walking distance to the heart of Bar Harbor. It’s located on the waterfront, and many rooms offer gorgeous views of the harbor.
  • Atmosphere: Harborside is a larger resort with more family-friendly amenities. It has a more resort-style atmosphere, with a variety of activities available on-site. The hotel is known for its beautiful pool area, including both indoor and outdoor pools, and its spacious grounds.
  • Swimming: Since you'll be visiting in early June, the outdoor pool at Harborside may still be a bit chilly, as outdoor pools in Maine typically open around late May to early June. The indoor pool, however, will be available year-round, so you don’t have to worry about the weather. You’ll also have access to hot tubs, which can be a great way to warm up after a day of exploring Acadia National Park.
  • Amenities: Harborside offers more resort-style amenities like multiple dining options, tennis courts, and access to a marina. It’s a larger property with more room options, including suites that might be better for families or groups.
  • Best for: Harborside is great for those looking for a more active stay with on-site amenities like the pool, spa, and recreational activities. It’s also better suited for families or those who prefer a larger resort setting.

Decision-making:

  • If you prefer a quieter, more central location close to downtown, West Street Hotel may be the better choice for you.
  • If you’re looking for a resort-style experience with outdoor activities like swimming and access to more amenities, Harborside Hotel might be a better fit, especially for families or those who want more on-site recreation.
  • If outdoor swimming is a priority, keep in mind that early June in Maine can still be a little cool for outdoor pools, but the indoor pool at Harborside should be a good option for the colder days.

Both hotels offer unique experiences, so it depends on whether you want a more boutique, downtown experience (West Street) or a more expansive, resort-style setting (Harborside). Either way, you’ll have a fantastic time in Bar Harbor with access to all the beauty of Acadia National Park!
