Christmas dinner

We are coming to the Celtics game on Christmas Day - taking Amtrak from Maine, and would like to eat dinner prior to the game. I know most places will be closed, but maybe Chinatown restaurants will be open? Does anyone have a recommendation?

It's great that you're heading to a Celtics game on Christmas Day! While many restaurants in Boston will be closed, Chinatown is a reliable spot where several restaurants remain open on Christmas Day, particularly offering Chinese and other Asian cuisines. Here are a few recommendations that should be open for Christmas dinner:

  • China Pearl: A popular dim sum restaurant in Chinatown that is typically open on Christmas Day. They offer a variety of traditional Chinese dishes and dim sum, perfect for a festive meal.
  • Gourmet Dumpling House: Known for its dumplings and other Chinese specialties, this spot is often open on Christmas. It’s a great casual option if you’re looking for something hearty before the game.
  • Jing Fong: Another Chinatown favorite, Jing Fong serves up a range of Chinese dishes, including soups, noodles, and seafood. It’s usually open for the holidays, but it’s always a good idea to call ahead to confirm.
  • Peach Farm: Known for its seafood, Peach Farm is a beloved spot in Chinatown that typically remains open on Christmas Day. It offers a variety of seafood dishes that you can enjoy before the game.

If you're not set on Chinatown, you can also check with hotels in the area, as many upscale hotels in Boston offer special holiday dinners. The Langham Hotel and The Ritz-Carlton often have special holiday dinner options, though they might require reservations ahead of time.

Since the Celtics game will likely be in the evening, make sure to leave some extra time to get to TD Garden after dinner, as parking or traffic can be busy around Christmas. Enjoy the game and your holiday dinner!
