Safe walking path from Sullivan Square T station?

Next week we want to take the Orange Line up to Sullivan Square and then walk over to the Mount Vernon Restaurant on Broadway. It takes only a few minutes but the walking directions show photos of highways and not streets with sidewalks. Any ideas? I haven’t been to Mt Vernon in years but it looks like they still serve classic seafood dishes. Thank you!

The walk from Sullivan Square T station to the Mount Vernon Restaurant is relatively short, but as you mentioned, some routes might take you near highways with limited sidewalks. Here's a safer and more pedestrian-friendly walking path you can take:

  • Exit Sullivan Square T station: From the station, head towards the traffic light at the intersection of Washington Street and McGrath Highway.
  • Use the crosswalks: Cross Washington Street (heading towards the 99 Restaurant or the large intersection). You'll need to cross the street to the side where the Mt. Vernon Restaurant is located.
  • Avoid McGrath Highway: It's best to avoid walking directly along McGrath Highway, as it's a busy road with limited pedestrian infrastructure. Instead, walk along the smaller side streets.
  • Head towards Broadway: Once you cross the main intersection, take the smaller, quieter street (like Cambridge Street or a nearby side street) to Broadway, where the restaurant is located.
  • Use pedestrian crossings: Be sure to use pedestrian crossings at all intersections, as Broadway and the area around Sullivan Square can be busy.

As for the Mount Vernon Restaurant, it's still a popular spot for classic seafood dishes, and the neighborhood around it is walkable, though be cautious of traffic in some areas. This route should provide a much safer walking experience than venturing too close to highways.

Enjoy your meal at the Mt. Vernon, and have a great time in Boston!
