Anna Maria island bridges

Coming end of March for Grandsons baseball at IMG. Wanting to stay on Anna Maria island but concerned about bridge traffic to/from island. Is there a lot of daily bridge traffic? Would it be better to stay closer to IMG? Thanks.

Anna Maria Island is connected to the mainland by three main bridges: the Manatee Avenue Bridge (southern end near Bradenton Beach), the Cortez Bridge (northern end near Bradenton), and the Longboat Pass Bridge (connecting to Longboat Key). Overall, traffic on these bridges can vary depending on the time of day, season, and any ongoing events.

Since you’re planning to visit at the end of March, be aware that this coincides with spring break season for many schools, as well as the start of the baseball season at IMG Academy. Bridge traffic during peak morning hours (roughly 7–9 a.m.) and evening (4–6 p.m.) can be heavier due to commuters and tourists. Otherwise, traffic tends to be moderate, especially mid-morning or early afternoon.

Here are some practical points to consider:

  • Staying on Anna Maria Island offers a charming beach experience, but you will need to account for bridge travel each day if attending events at IMG in Bradenton.
  • The drive from the island to IMG Academy is approximately 25–35 minutes without traffic, but can take longer during peak periods, especially the Manatee Avenue Bridge.
  • Breakfast or early departure before peak times can help minimize delay.

If minimizing driving and bridge crossings is a priority, staying closer to IMG Academy (Bradenton or Palmetto area) may be more convenient, especially if attending multiple baseball games or practices each day. However, if you prioritize a beachfront stay and are okay with some daily driving, Anna Maria Island is still a great choice.

In summary, daily bridge traffic exists but is manageable outside peak hours. The decision depends on whether you value beachfront relaxation over proximity to IMG.
