Pass the Desserts, please :)

Aloha! Four of us (2 adult couples) are coming to Kauai in late Feb/Early March, 4 nights in Poipu and 6 up in Princeville

We will be cooking many of our dinners at home, but when we do I'd like to finish it off with a nice dessert- take out from restaurants, sweets from a farmer's market vendor or specialty shop, that sort of thing.

I'm still dreaming about the amazing lilikoi cheesecake from The Right Slice (6 years ago), so that's happening the first night- and I'm getting the whole dang pie!

I'm also thinking some fruit with a balsamic glaze and Lapperts ice cream sounds good for another night.

I'm not sure how well it would travel, but I LOVE Dukes mud pie... might have to think about just stopping there for that after our dinner

Are Kauai Kookies still around?

Do you have any other suggestions of amazing, "you're still dreaming of them" desserts?

If so I'd love your suggestions!

As we're staying on both sides of the island and are traveling a bit between both as well, location is less important than the "YUMMY" factor, but I'd be especially interested in north shore goodies as we're there the longest, and will have the shortest distance to get it to the fridge if needed

Mahalo in advance!

Aloha! It sounds like you’re in for a delicious trip to Kauai! With so many sweet options on the island, you’re definitely going to indulge in some amazing desserts. Here are a few suggestions for your dessert cravings across both the South Shore and North Shore, including some iconic spots and a few hidden gems.

1. Lilikoi Cheesecake (The Right Slice): Since you’ve already mentioned this as a must-have on your first night, you’re definitely on the right track! The lilikoi cheesecake from The Right Slice is a Kauai favorite, and I’m sure you’ll love it just as much as you did 6 years ago. Don’t forget to grab a whole pie!

2. Lapperts Ice Cream: Lapperts is another iconic dessert stop. You’ve got the right idea with pairing their ice cream with fruit and balsamic glaze. For something extra special, you might want to try their signature flavors like Kona Coffee, Chocolate Haupia, or their famous Vanilla Bean!

3. Duke’s Mud Pie: For a post-dinner treat, Duke’s Mud Pie is absolutely worth it! It's rich and indulgent, so if you love chocolate, you’ll want to stop there. It’s a great choice after a nice dinner, and you can enjoy it fresh, or take it home for later.

4. Kauai Kookies: Yes! Kauai Kookies are still around, and they’re a perfect sweet snack to enjoy. These delicious, crunchy cookies come in various flavors, and their coconut macadamia nut cookies are always a favorite. You can find them at most local markets, or check out their factory store in Hanapepe.

5. Hanalei Pies: If you're heading to the North Shore, make sure to check out Hanalei Pies. Their fruit pies and tropical flavors are an absolute treat. The coconut cream pie is particularly amazing, and you can take one to-go to enjoy back at your place!

6. Coconut Club Kauai: Located in Hanalei, the Coconut Club serves a delicious selection of local-inspired desserts. Their coconut flan is a must-try, and it’s a perfect way to indulge in something sweet with a tropical twist.

7. The Sweet Shop (Princeville): If you’re near Princeville, don’t miss The Sweet Shop. They offer some of the best homemade fudge and caramel treats on the island. Their coconut fudge and tropical fruit fudge are divine, and they’re packaged perfectly for taking with you to enjoy later.

8. Koloa Rum Company (Koloa): While not exactly a dessert, the Koloa Rum Company offers amazing rum cakes and other treats you can pair with dessert or enjoy as a sweet snack. You can try their rum cake and pick up a bottle of their signature flavored rums while you’re at it.

9. Shave Ice (Various Locations): You can’t go to Kauai without having shave ice! While it’s not a traditional dessert, it’s a must-try. You can find amazing shave ice with tropical fruit syrups and even add condensed milk for an extra sweet touch. Some great places to check out for shave ice include Wailua Shave Ice and Jojo’s Shave Ice in Hanalei.

10. The Greenery Café (Kauai): For something a little lighter, The Greenery Café offers delicious fruit-based desserts, including their popular acai bowls and tropical sorbet. It’s a refreshing option, especially if you’re looking for something more on the healthy side while still satisfying your sweet tooth.

11. Oki’s (Kapaa): If you find yourself on the East Shore, Oki’s in Kapaa is a local favorite for baked goods. Their malasadas (Portuguese donuts) are a must-try. They are fried to perfection and filled with sweet custard or cream, making them a great snack or dessert after a day of sightseeing.

12. Fruit Markets and Farmers’ Markets: As you’re thinking about fresh fruit and creative desserts, you might also want to swing by one of Kauai's farmers’ markets. The Hanalei, Kapa'a, and Lihue markets are excellent places to find local fruits like passion fruit, guava, and lychee, which could be perfect for a fresh dessert. You might also find locally made jams, jellies, or tropical tarts to take back to your place.

With these recommendations, you’re in for some deliciously memorable desserts while exploring Kauai. Whether you’re indulging in a decadent slice of pie or refreshing shave ice, there’s something for everyone. Enjoy your anniversary trip and all the sweet treats Kauai has to offer!

Mahalo!
