Walking Manhattan Beach to Long Point Palos Verdes
I am taking a quick solo trip to Manhattan Beach. Spending Saturday afternoon and night there and walking to Long Point on Sunday. Looks like about a 5 hour walk. I’ll bus or Uber back to Manhattan Beach spend Sunday night and return home Monday afternoon early evening.
Any suggestions for restaurants, bars must see sights at both locations or in between locations?
Walking from Manhattan Beach to Long Point in Palos Verdes is a beautiful coastal trek that takes you along beaches, cliffs, and scenic viewpoints. It’s a roughly 12–13 mile walk, so planning for about 5–6 hours including breaks is reasonable for a moderately paced walker.
Saturday in Manhattan Beach:
For your Saturday afternoon and evening, focus on the vibrant downtown and beachfront area:
- Lunch/Dinner: Try The Strand House for upscale dining with ocean views, or MB Post for casual, hearty fare.
- Bars: Father’s Office offers great craft beers and a classic LA gastropub vibe; Shellback Tavern is good for a relaxed coastal bar atmosphere.
- Must-see sights: Manhattan Beach Pier, the beachfront walkway, and the small shops along Manhattan Beach Boulevard.
Walking Route Suggestions:
Begin your walk early Sunday morning to enjoy cooler temperatures and fewer crowds. You’ll mostly follow the coastal bike paths and streets along the cliffs. Highlights include:
- Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach piers for quick stops or coffee breaks.
- The Seaside Lagoon and Terranea Resort area as you approach Palos Verdes, which offer great views.
- Consider minor detours to Bluff Cove Beach and Abalone Cove Shoreline Park for scenic cliffside stops.
Lunch/Break Options en route:
- Redondo Beach Pier area has casual eateries and cafes for a midday break.
- Terranea Resort or nearby restaurants for a slightly upscale lunch with cliffside views.
Long Point / Palos Verdes:
Once you arrive, enjoy the cliffs, lighthouse viewpoints, and coastal trails:
- Long Point offers panoramic ocean views and is popular for sunset photography.
- Nearby, you can explore Abalone Cove Trail or the Portuguese Bend Reserve if you have extra energy.
- Dining options are limited directly at Long Point, so plan to bring snacks or head back toward Terranea Resort or Palos Verdes Estates for a meal.
Evening Return to Manhattan Beach:
- Uber or rideshare is the most convenient way back given the distance and limited public transit along the cliffs.
- Consider grabbing a casual dinner or drinks back in Manhattan Beach to unwind after the long walk; MB Post or The Strand House if you haven’t tried them on Saturday are good options.
This plan allows you to enjoy a scenic coastal walk while experiencing key highlights of Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, and Palos Verdes cliffs without rushing. Start early, carry water and snacks, and enjoy the views!
