Where to stay - advice please

I’ve over researched and now completely confused!

Visting in September, first time, will be arriving from Nantucket by ferry. Can’t decide whether I stay at Oak Bluffs or Vineyard, I enjoy sightseeing and eating out. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

It sounds like you're in for a wonderful trip to Martha's Vineyard! Both Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven (Tisbury) offer unique experiences, so your decision really depends on the type of vibe you're looking for during your stay. Here are some points to consider about each location:

  • Oak Bluffs: Oak Bluffs is the more lively and tourist-friendly area on the island. It has a vibrant atmosphere with a lot of things to do, including the famous Gingerbread Cottages and the scenic Ocean Park. The harbor area is lovely for strolling, and you'll find many restaurants, cafes, and shops, making it great for eating out. It's also home to the Martha's Vineyard Camp Meeting Association (MVCMA), which offers a glimpse of the island's unique history. If you enjoy being in the heart of the action with easy access to nightlife and dining options, Oak Bluffs is a great choice.
  • Vineyard Haven (Tisbury): Vineyard Haven is more laid-back and quieter compared to Oak Bluffs, with a more local and relaxed vibe. While it is the ferry terminal and a port of entry to the island, it's not as touristy as Oak Bluffs. If you enjoy a more peaceful atmosphere with easy access to charming boutiques and eateries, this might be the place for you. The town has a beautiful waterfront and is a great base for exploring the island, as it's centrally located. Vineyard Haven is also home to the Martha's Vineyard Museum, which could be a nice stop if you're into history and culture.

Both areas have a good selection of restaurants, but Oak Bluffs has more variety and options, especially if you're looking for a bustling dining scene. Vineyard Haven is a bit quieter but offers some fantastic spots as well.

If you prefer a more relaxed, residential vibe with easy access to the island's other areas, Vineyard Haven could be ideal. However, if you want to be close to the action and prefer more lively evenings, Oak Bluffs would be a great choice. Either way, both areas are beautiful and offer a unique Martha's Vineyard experience!

Have a fantastic time planning your trip!
