Jiuzhaigou Zhangjiajie possibility no visa ?

Hello!

I wanted to confirm ..with the 240 visa for USA citizens we can fly to Chengdu go leshan and ermei Shan. But in the list of permitted stays jiuzhaigou was not one of them?

I understand some provinces (like shandgong Guangdong) allow go throughout whole province but Sichuan and Yunnan has limits ..

We thought of flying from Hong Kong to Zhangjiajie direct with Qingdao airlines as China discover said had direct flights but when we went on trip.com couldn’t find any direct flights.

Anyone know? …for mid March

The 240-hour (10-day) visa-free transit in China for US citizens allows entry into certain cities and regions, but it has strict restrictions on where you can travel. Jiuzhaigou and Zhangjiajie are located in Sichuan and Hunan provinces, respectively, and these areas are generally not included in the permitted regions for 240-hour transit. Typically, the permitted regions include major cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu (central city), and some connected areas, but travel to Jiuzhaigou National Park or Zhangjiajie National Forest Park would require a proper visa.

For Sichuan, the 240-hour transit generally covers Chengdu and nearby areas, including Leshan and Mount Emei, which is why your planned visit there is allowed. However, Zhangjiajie is in Hunan province, and Jiuzhaigou is further north in Sichuan but outside the specific free transit zone, so you cannot travel there under the 240-hour visa-free transit.

Regarding flights from Hong Kong to Zhangjiajie, while some websites or airline advertisements may show direct flights, availability can be limited and schedules may not appear on all booking platforms like Trip.com. It is important to verify directly with the airline (e.g., Qingdao Airlines) or use local booking services.

  • Jiuzhaigou National Park: Not permitted under 240-hour transit. You need a regular Chinese visa.
  • Zhangjiajie National Park: Not permitted under 240-hour transit. You need a regular Chinese visa.
  • Chengdu, Leshan, Mount Emei: Permitted under 240-hour transit for US citizens.

If you want to visit Jiuzhaigou or Zhangjiajie in mid-March, you would need to apply for a standard tourist visa (L visa) before your trip. This can be done at a Chinese consulate or visa center in your home country.

  • Check with local consulates for current visa requirements, as rules may update.
  • Verify flight schedules directly with airlines for any direct routes from Hong Kong to Zhangjiajie.
  • Consider planning your 240-hour transit within the permitted areas and schedule a separate trip with a visa for Jiuzhaigou or Zhangjiajie.

In summary, mid-March travel to Jiuzhaigou or Zhangjiajie cannot be done under the 240-hour visa-free transit, and a regular Chinese tourist visa is required.
