4th of July

Hi my partner and I will be in Honolulu over the 4th of July and would love to know if there are any recommendations of celebrations that will be happening? I’m assuming fireworks on Waikiki beach but anything else?

Spending the 4th of July in Honolulu is a fantastic experience! The city celebrates the holiday with a variety of events, including fireworks, parades, concerts, and community activities. Here are some recommendations for 4th of July celebrations and things to do in Honolulu:

  • Waikiki Beach Fireworks - As you mentioned, Waikiki Beach is a prime spot for fireworks on the 4th of July. The fireworks show usually begins at 8:00 PM, and it’s a popular event, so get there early to secure a good spot on the beach. You’ll have a great view of the fireworks over the ocean, with the Waikiki skyline as a backdrop.
  • 4th of July Parade - The annual 4th of July Parade takes place in Honolulu, typically starting in the morning. The parade usually marches through the streets of downtown Honolulu and includes marching bands, floats, and local performers. It’s a family-friendly event and a great way to kick off the celebrations for the day.
  • Sunset on Ala Moana Beach - If you're looking for a more relaxed way to enjoy the day, you can head to Ala Moana Beach Park for a picnic, enjoy the ocean, and watch the sunset. Many people gather here for a laid-back 4th of July experience. It’s less crowded than Waikiki Beach but still offers a great view of the fireworks display later in the evening.
  • Red, White, and Blue Festival at Magic Island - Magic Island, located next to Ala Moana Beach Park, often hosts a “Red, White, and Blue Festival” with live music, food trucks, and other family-friendly activities. This is another excellent spot to enjoy the holiday atmosphere before the fireworks show.
  • 4th of July BBQs and Special Events at Hotels and Resorts - Many of the major hotels and resorts in Honolulu, particularly in Waikiki, offer special 4th of July events, including BBQs, pool parties, and themed dinners. For example, the Hilton Hawaiian Village hosts a big BBQ celebration with live music and games. These events are a fun way to celebrate the holiday while enjoying the amenities of a resort.
  • Kualoa Ranch Fireworks and Celebration - For something a little different, you can also check out the 4th of July celebration at Kualoa Ranch, located on the east side of Oahu. The ranch hosts a special event with fireworks, food, and live entertainment. It’s a bit farther from Waikiki, but it’s a unique and scenic experience if you're up for a drive.

Whether you’re looking for a traditional fireworks show, a relaxed day at the beach, or a fun family event, Honolulu offers plenty of ways to celebrate the 4th of July. Just be sure to plan ahead, as many events get crowded, and public transportation may be busy in the evening after the fireworks show.

Enjoy your time in Honolulu and have a fantastic 4th of July celebration!
