Non- skier mom

Hello. We will be visiting for the first time. I do not ski, but my 5 year old daughter does with her Dad. Is there somewhere warm I can sit and wait for her to finished skiing and let her take a break while Dad goes back out to ski?

Welcome to Big Sky! It's a fantastic destination, and even if you don’t ski, there are plenty of options for you to relax while your daughter enjoys the slopes with her dad. Big Sky is known for its beautiful scenery and family-friendly atmosphere, so there are a variety of warm, cozy spots where you can unwind while they ski. Here are a few suggestions:

  • The Base Area Lodges: The main base area at Big Sky has several lodges with indoor seating and stunning mountain views. You’ll find comfortable lounges and fireplaces where you can relax while keeping an eye on the slopes. Many of these places also have coffee shops, food options, and cozy corners to curl up with a book.
  • The Huntley Lodge: Located at the base of the mountain, the Huntley Lodge has a great indoor space where you can relax in a warm environment. The lodge has a bar, restaurant, and comfortable seating areas, and you can easily pass the time while waiting for your daughter and husband to return. The view from the lounge area is spectacular, making it a great place to relax and enjoy the scenery.
  • The Mountain Mall: For a mix of indoor and outdoor seating, the Mountain Mall area at the base of the resort is a popular spot. You’ll find shops, a food court, and places to sit and enjoy a hot drink. It’s a great place to people-watch and enjoy the bustle of the resort while staying warm.
  • The Yurt (Mountain Outpost): If you’re looking for something a little different, check out the Mountain Outpost yurt. It’s a cozy spot with incredible views, and while it's primarily used for ski-in/ski-out services, non-skiers are also welcome to relax inside. It’s a warm, quiet retreat perfect for unwinding while your daughter takes a break.
  • Spa and Wellness Options: If you want a little extra pampering, consider spending some time at the spa. Big Sky Resort and nearby hotels like The Summit Hotel offer spa services, including massages, saunas, and hot tubs—perfect for a relaxing break while your family enjoys the slopes. You might want to check out a spa reservation in advance to ensure availability.

In addition to these options, you could also explore the surrounding area if you want to venture out for a bit. The town of Big Sky has a number of charming shops, cafes, and restaurants that are great for taking a leisurely break. But overall, you’ll find plenty of spots to relax, recharge, and stay warm while your family enjoys the slopes!
