Quick Trip advice needed

I am surprising a loved one and doing a ride along with an Honor Flight group. I will fly in 5/18 to DCA and need a place to stay. I need to easily get back to DCA 5/19 in the am to meet the Honor flight group. I will spend the day with them and then head back to hotel and I fly out 5/20.

Recommendations on place to stay that is easy to get to feom DCA.

Is there anything in walking distance from suggested hotel for solo dining. Is there anything I should go see/do evening of 5/19 after the group departs (after 7pm)?

Is there anything I should be aware of as a solo traveler?

Thank you! My 1st solo trip anywhere!

For a short trip to Washington, DC, centered around an Honor Flight on 5/19, your priority should be convenience to Reagan National Airport (DCA) and easy access to transportation for your limited sightseeing. Here’s a detailed guide:

Hotel Recommendations Near DCA:

  • Hyatt Regency Crystal City: About a 5-minute drive or 10-minute walk from DCA. Offers modern rooms and a restaurant on-site. Easy access to the Metro for getting into DC proper.
  • Hilton Crystal City at Reagan National Airport: Connected via a pedestrian bridge to DCA. Very convenient for early morning meet-ups with Honor Flight. Has restaurants nearby and in-house dining.
  • Residence Inn Arlington/Courthouse: A bit farther from DCA (10–15 min drive), but offers kitchenette facilities if you prefer self-catering and a quieter stay. Near Metro for exploring the city.

Dining Options within Walking Distance:

  • Crystal City has a cluster of casual and mid-range restaurants including Italian, American, and Asian cuisine. Consider Legal Sea Foods or Ruth’s Chris Steak House for sit-down meals.
  • For solo travelers, cafes or food halls like Crystal City Shops provide safe, casual options for dinner.
  • Most hotels also have room service if you prefer to dine quietly.

Evening of 5/19 after Honor Flight:

  • If you feel comfortable venturing into DC, consider a short Metro ride to the National Mall to see monuments lit up at night—Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, and World War II Memorial are spectacular after dark.
  • Old Town Alexandria is only a short drive or Metro trip from Crystal City. It has charming cobblestone streets, waterfront dining, and shops, perfect for a relaxed evening stroll.
  • If staying closer, the hotel bar or nearby Crystal City restaurants provide a convenient and safe option to unwind.

Tips for Solo Travelers:

  • Keep a copy of your ID, hotel address, and emergency contacts with you.
  • Use rideshare apps or taxis if returning late to the hotel instead of walking alone at night.
  • Stick to well-lit, populated areas for evening walks or sightseeing.
  • Plan your Metro routes ahead of time and check service hours—some lines close after midnight.
  • Since it’s your first solo trip, leave a rough itinerary with a friend or family member, especially for the day you’ll be with the Honor Flight group.

With hotels like Hyatt Regency or Hilton Crystal City, you’ll have maximum convenience to DCA for early morning activities while still being close enough to DC and Alexandria for sightseeing or dining in the evening. Your short trip can be both smooth and enjoyable, with minimal stress about transportation.
