Hiking in Page
We are visiting Page next week. Have an AC tour booked & will visit Horseshoe Bend. Can anyone recommend any nearby hikes in the 3-5 mile range? Thank you.
Page, Arizona, offers several great hiking options within a 3-5 mile range that let you experience the stunning desert landscapes, canyons, and views of Lake Powell. Since you already have an Antelope Canyon tour and plan to visit Horseshoe Bend, these hikes can complement your trip with moderate effort and beautiful scenery.
Here are some recommended hikes near Page in the 3-5 mile range:
- Wire Pass Trail to Buckskin Gulch (partial hike): This is a scenic slot canyon hike. You can do an out-and-back section of about 3-4 miles, enjoying narrow canyon walls and unique rock formations. Note that longer hikes continue into Buckskin Gulch, which is much longer.
- Lees Ferry Trail: A 3-4 mile round trip along the Colorado River. The trail offers river views, wildlife spotting, and a chance to enjoy the historic ferry site.
- Lone Rock Beach Trail: This is a relatively flat 3-5 mile round trip along the shores of Lake Powell. Great for scenic views, photography, and easy terrain.
If you’re willing to stretch a bit, there are also options for slightly shorter or longer hikes that are worth considering:
- Horseshoe Bend Rim Trail: The main trail to Horseshoe Bend is short (1.5 miles round trip), but you can extend your hike along the rim for extra miles and views of the Colorado River.
- Glen Canyon Dam Trail: About 3 miles round trip, this trail offers views of the dam, Colorado River, and surrounding canyon walls. It’s an easy, moderate hike suitable for most visitors.
General tips for hiking in Page:
- Start early in the day to avoid heat and crowds, especially in summer.
- Bring plenty of water, sun protection, and sturdy hiking shoes.
- Be aware of flash flood risks if hiking in slot canyons, especially after rain.
These hikes provide a mix of river views, slot canyons, and scenic desert landscapes, all within a manageable distance for a half-day adventure. You can easily combine one or two shorter hikes with your scheduled tours for a full day of exploring around Page.
